Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, two of the most recognizable figures in professional wrestling, are arguably the most influential couple in WWE history. They have an interesting story that has been well-documented (and photographed) throughout the years.
They have been in the spotlight for much of their marriage but have maintained a healthy dose of privacy in their everyday lives. The on-screen portrayal of their relationship has often failed to capture their love for each other, but that has always been evident when the cameras have stopped rolling.
7 They Started As Friends
Stephanie began working for WWE full time after graduating from Boston University in 1998, and she immediately befriended Triple H, who was in the process of becoming one of the most popular wrestlers in the company. Stephanie was close with a few wrestlers backstage, but Vince made it clear that he would not support a relationship between her and another wrestler.
The two became closer when they began to appear on-screen with one another in various storylines during Stephanie's first few years with the company. Rumors began circulating that there was something between them, but nothing materialized as Triple H was involved in a high-profile relationship with Chyna at the time.
6 Stephanie McMahon & Test's Kayfabe Wedding Is Ruined
One of the first storylines that Stephanie was involved in saw her in an on-screen relationship with Andrew "Test" Martin, whom Vince approved of as her partner. However, Triple H interrupted the couple's wedding ceremony on Raw on November 29, 1999, when he aired footage of a drive-thru wedding ceremony a few weeks prior between himself and Stephanie.
The moment not only cemented Triple H's status as one of the top heels in the industry, but it will also stand the test of time as one of the most memorable moments of The Attitude Era. On the other hand, Martin became nothing more than a footnote as the storyline had completely stunted his main event push, and he spent the remainder of his career on the mid-cards.
5 They Quickly Became An (On-Screen) Power Couple
They grew closer after the marriage storyline, as Stephanie took Triple H's side in his power struggle against Vince, and they began an on-screen relationship. At the same time, they had also grown closer backstage, and speculation of a love affair between the two began to grow.
They were a power couple at this time, as Triple H was the WWE Champion while Stephanie held the Women's Championship, establishing herself as a true competitor in the process. They remained together on-screen until getting divorced when Stephanie lied about her pregnancy in 2001, shortly after they solidified their relationship in real life.
4 They Both Cheated On Their Other Partners
Triple H's relationship with Chyna has been well-documented over the years, but not many people know that Stephanie was also involved in a relationship while being romantically involved with Helmsley. Chyna discovered Triple H's infidelity when she found a love letter written to him by Stephanie, and they broke up immediately after. There are conflicting reports about Chyna's departure from the company within a year after the incident, but many believe the affair played a role in her mutual decision to leave WWE.
Vince was against the relationship at first, and he reportedly forced them to split shortly after they made it official. Nevertheless, they got back together and continued dating in secret before breaking the news to him once again.
3 They (Officially) Tied The Knot In 2003
After dating each other for nearly three years, Triple H and Stephanie were married on October 25, 2003. She left her role as the SmackDown! General Manager that same week and remained away from the company for two years after the marriage.
Vince has always been an ultimate opportunist, and his idea to make the real-life wedding between Triple H and Stephanie a pay-per-view event is a perfect example of that. Unsurprisingly, the couple vehemently rejected the idea, as they wanted to maintain an ounce of privacy in their everyday lives.
2 And Started A Family Shortly After
WWE may have disregarded their marriage for six years (possibly because of their previous in-ring divorce), but their love for one another outside the ring has always been undeniable. They started a family in Connecticut and had their first child, a girl, in 2006.
The family continued to grow as they had two other daughters, Murphy and Vaugh, over the next four years. Their eldest daughter, Aurora, is looking to follow in her parent's footsteps as she has already shown an interest in professional wrestling at the young age of 13. It remains to be seen whether they will be interested in joining the family business, but their pedigree (pun intended) suggests they should be able to form quite the trio if they choose to do so.
1 Their Transition Into Authoritarian Roles
Stephanie McMahon has had a significant amount of pull in the company throughout much of her career, and she played a massive role in the Women's Revolution behind the scenes. Most of her work may be done off-screen, but she has also served as the Commissioner of Raw, where she has regularly made on-screen appearances since 2016.
Likewise, Triple H has also transitioned into a role with WWE management, and he is currently the company's Chief Operating Officer. He has also made frequent on-screen appearances since making the jump to a more managerial role with WWE, and the couple has proven that the company will be in good hands long after Vince has passed.
