Brock Lesnar has become one of the most destructive forces in WWE over the past three years, from conquering The Undertaker’s Undefeated Streak at WrestleMania XXX to destroying John Cena at SummerSlam in 2015 with 16 German Suplex’. Brock Lesnar has walked his own path in WWE.
But alone Lesnar isn’t much of a threat, it is only when he is partnered with Paul Heyman that he becomes lethal to all Superstars in his way.
These two stars have been together since the beginning. Heyman is the only man who can talk for Lesnar and the only man that Lesnar allows to speak for him, and together they have conquered WWE.
Even though Brock lost his last match to Goldberg, it seems that The Beast will be returning to WWE at the Royal Rumble to reclaim what is left of his pride. Heyman will be in toe as always and hopefully, Brock will be able to extract the revenge he requires if he meets Goldberg again inside the 30-man match.
Now, even though Heyman and Lesnar have a huge following in WWE right now, there is not a lot known about them outside of the company, or outside of the TV cameras, so the following are 15 facts that every WWE fan should know about the relation between Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar.
15. The Lines Between UFC And WWE Are Never Blurred
Brock Lesnar made his successful return to UFC last year, when he easily defeated Mark Hunt back at UFC 200. The build up to that match saw WWE and UFC join forces by allowing Lesnar to appear for the company while still under contract with WWE.
Many fans thought that Heyman would once again be there to walk Lesar down the ramp, but instead, Heyman wrote on social media that there was no reason for him to be there. He couldn’t help Brock win this fight, and it would be strange for him to not be by Lesnar’s side. But Heyman thinks that he has a genuine purpose when he is with Lesnar in WWE. Meanwhile he doesn’t feel the same about UFC.
14. Real Friends Lie For Each Other
Paul Heyman in many ways is the real ‘The Voice of the Voiceless.’ He has made a living out of talking for WWE Superstars over the past decade, and no one does it as well as Heyman. The former SmackDown General Manager even managed to start a conspiracy theory after Brock Lesnar defeated The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX.
Heyman stated that Brock decided to shoot and beat The Undertaker so bad that he couldn’t kick out. Claiming that Lesnar hooked The Undertaker’s leg in a way that he couldn’t escape and then he ended The Streak. He said that WWE couldn’t fire him because he had just ended The Streak, so they then had to do something else with him. Heyman made so much sense that fans are actually now confused as to which theory is true.
13. Brock Lesnar is Paul Heyman’s Best Friend
Back in 2013, Heyman was on top of the world. He was working with both Brock Lesnar and CM Punk and both men were making a huge impact on WWE TV as two of the top stars on the roster.
Heyman recalls that this was the highlight of his career. He is very close to both men and loved that he was able to work with two of his best friends. Heyman always believed in both Punk and Lesnar and was there for the ups and downs of both men’s career. Heyman stayed with them and helped them climb to the top in the company. It seems as though Paul Heyman is the perfect kind of friend and one that everyone should have at some point in their lives.
12. Both Men Have Similar Opinions On Things
They say that our similarities make us strong, but our differences make us stronger, and it seems that even though Brock and Paul Heyman are very different people both inside and outside, they have similar opinions when it comes to UFC and WWE.
Both men have recently stated that they think Conor McGregor would make an excellent addition to the WWE locker room, Heyman even going as far as building up a match between Lesnar and McGregor in the not too distant future. It seems that these two men share much more than an advocate/client relationship, they also share many common opinions. This is most likely the case as to why Heyman is the only person allowed to speak on behalf of Lesnar in WWE.
11. Lesnar Is Heyman’s Most Successful Client
It is well known in the WWE that if you want to be successful then you should ask to be partnered with Paul Heyman. Superstars like the Big Show, Cesaro, CM Punk ,and Brock Lesnar have all been pushed forward thanks to Paul Heyman and his incredible ability to get things done.
That being said, Brock Lesnar is definitely the most successful client of Heyman given that he is a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and the person who ended The Undertaker’s legendary streak almost three years ago. He was also unpinned for more than three years following his loss to Triple H at WrestleMania XXIX back in 2013. While Lesnar recently lost to Goldberg, there is no reason to believe that his success in WWE will not continue.
10. Paul Heyman Has Pull InBrock Lesnar’s Storylines
It sounds crazy, but it seems that Paul Heyman has a lot of power in WWE. So much so that when the creative team are writing new storylines for The Beast, Paul Heyman has some pull as to which was they will take the proposed angle.
Obviously, Heyman is part of the storylines for the most part, but he would never be OK with something that he didn’t agree with. On the flip side, it is clear that Brock trusts his judgement. This means that Heyman had to approve the loss to Goldberg at Survivor Series before it was pitched to Brock Lesnar and then put on WWE programming. This also means that there is a much bigger plan in the works for The Beast moving forward.
9. Heyman Is One Of The Few Human Beings That Lesnar Likes
Brock Lesnar doesn’t look like the kind of man who is out to make friends, and that’s because he isn’t. Paul Heyman revealed in an interview a few years ago that Brock Lesnar hates human beings. Heyman claimed that Lesnar hates people and he purposely stays away from them.
He said that Lesnar lives far away from anyone on a compound down two dirt roads. In fact, he can’t even have mail delivered to his address, and his address doesn’t show up on any GPS. This is the way Lesnar likes to live. He has a few people that he is connected to and he doesn’t much care about anyone else. It seems Paul Heyman left a lasting impression with the anti-social Beast because he is one of the humans that he can stand.
8. Heyman Co-Wrote Lesnar’s 2011 Autobiography
Given that Paul Heyman has known Brock Lesnar both personally and professionally now for almost 15 years, it comes as no surprise that Lesnar asked Heyman to co-write his autobiography with him.
Heyman is a man of words. He twists words around until he finally creates the image that he is looking for, which makes him the perfect person to help to write about your life story. Brock and Heyman wrote his 2011 autobiography entitled ‘Death Clutch.’ This is a book that looks at Lesnar’s short stint in WWE, his rise in UFC, and even his short run over in New Japan Pro Wrestling, where it seems The Beast was not happy with many Japanese traditions when it came to welcoming American wrestlers (no surprise there).
7. Brock Lesnar Refused To Return To WWE Without Heyman
Brock Lesnar’s first run in WWE was a destructive one and it seems that by 2004, just two years after his debut, he had other dreams, so he left the company to pursue a career in football and MMA.
Brock excelled in UFC and even managed to fight through diverticulitis. Lesnar then became UFC World Champion, but he decided to return to WWE after the company reached out to him back in 2012. Brock refused to return to the company unless Paul Heyman was once again at his side. This shows how close these two really are. And then then night after WrestleMania XXVII (even though Heyman wasn’t there for his return), Lesnar was back in WWE. After that, it wasn’t long before Heyman was back by his side.
6. Paul Heyman Has A Photo Of Brock’s Children In His Wallet
It has already been mentioned that Paul Heyman and Brock are close. Because of their children, a personal bond will continue to shape their careers until they decide to walk away from WWE, most likely together. Although, Heyman may stick around with WWE are willing to keep him around.
It seems that this story gets much cuter. Paul Heyman admitted that not only is Brock Lesnar his best friend, but he also had a photo of his children Azalea and Jacob with Brock’s children Turk and Duke from WrestleMania XXIX, that he keeps in his wallet with him at all times. Now if that isn’t friendship then I don’t know what is. You see, there are soft sides to even the most vicious WWE Superstars.
5. They Are More Alike Than People Think
Brock Lesnar is a South Dakota farm boy with a naturally destructive personality, while Paul Heyman is a Jewish New Yorker who is the son of a personal law attorney. On the outside, they are two men who shouldn’t click, but they do because they are similar when it comes to morals and values.
Both Heyman and Brock agree that the most important thing to them in this life is their family and the love they have for their children. Heyman recently commented that despite how different they are culturally they make up for with how similar they are professionally and personally. Sometimes, all it takes for two people to bond is a common ground. And connecting over family is rather easy for two different individuals.
4. Together Since The Beginning
Heyman and Lesnar met back in 2002 on a plane to the U.K. and hit it off right away. Even though Heyman has moved on to be the advocate for Cesaro, CM Punk, Ryback, and even Curtis Axel over the past few years, he has only ever truly been at home at the side of Brock Lesnar.
Lesnar doesn’t have great mic skills. All of his talking is done in the ring, so when Heyman isn’t there to speak for him, his matches seem to mean a whole lot less. Also, when Lesnar isn’t there to fight Heyman out of the battles that he has talked himself into, his words don’t seem to have the same impact either. The duo are wrestling soulmates. They only make sense when they are together.
3. Heyman Always Tells Lesnar The Truth
Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman are two very different people. Lesnar is a man who goes into a place like a wrecking ball and asks questions later, while Heyman is the kind of man who judges a situation first. While they aren’t the kind of people you would expect to be friends, but they are closer than most so called “friends” in thew wrestling world.
Heyman recently commented that their relationship works because he always tells Lesnar the truth. He said that he was one of only a few men who were always honest with Brock and didn’t tell him just what he wanted to hear, and that is why their friendship works. For Lesnar, it would be easy to surround himself with ‘Yes’ men but what go would that do for The Beast? Heyman is around to be real with Lesnar.
2. Their Daughters Brought Them Closer
It may be hard to believe it given the characters that they play when they step into a WWE ring. but both Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar are loving fathers. They have families waiting for them at home, and in an interview conducted back in 2015, Heyman recalled that the birth of their daughters helped build their relationship.
Heyman stated that they became friends instantaneously and the fact that their daughters were born within months of each other helped them to bond. He said that they were both keeping the fact that they were about to become fathers a secret and so they only told each other and were able to keep it just between them. He also said that the fact that they alway put their family first was one of the things that helped them to hit it off in the beginning.
1. Paul Heyman Is The Godfather OF Brock Lesnar’s Youngest Children
Brock Lesnar was once roommates with Shelton Benjamin when they were up and coming on the wrestling scene and they have remained close friends, which is why Benjamin is the Godfather to Brock’s two eldest children.
Paul Heyman is the Godfather to Brock’s youngest two children, the two that he has with current wife and former WWE Diva Sable. Turk and Duke have grown up not only under the watchful eye of Brock Lesnar but also of his on-screen advocate Paul Heyman, which can only be a good thing. Interestingly though, Lesnar is not Godfather to Heyman’s children, but maybe that’s because Heyman doesn’t share the same faith. Regardless, this relationship may be a controversial one but it certainly one of the more interesting wrestling friendships.
