This week's of Monday Night Raw had an ending that shocked the majority of the WWE Universe. While Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman faced off in a Steel Cage match, Kane made an unexpected return and attacked the former. He helped Strowman win the match, and was later declared to be the final member of The Miz's team at this Sunday's TLC pay-per-view event.

Kane hasn't appeared on WWE television in over 10 months, so his return came up at a completely unexpected time. The original report (from Andrew Ravens of eWrestlingNews.com), suggested that Kane's appearance would set up yet another return from The Undertaker. It was speculated that the Brother of Destruction could reunite to face The Shield at Survivor Series.

But today, Jon Fuentes from EWrestlingnews.com is reporting that "the belief backstage is that Kane’s return will be a very brief one," and that the talent was shocked to see him appear at the end of the show.

As Fuentes also noted, Kane is currently running for mayor in Knox County, Tennessee. Obviously, he won't have much time to campaign and work for WWE, so it's not surprising to learn that his return isn't expected to last long.

Kane has only been a part-timer for the better part of the past year or so. He was "fired" on-screen for his front office role with the company, and embarked on a few short-lived feuds before spending nearly a year away from WWE programming. Given his age (50), and political career, it's unlikely he'll be a full-time employee for the company again.

Does this completely squash our hopes of The Undertaker not returning? Obviously not. With The Deadman, you have to remember that he never dies but always rises. Perhaps Kane's return will set up another appearance from 'Taker, which could rekindle his rivalry with Reigns.
