It’s one thing for a professional wrestler to be on the card during a WrestleMania event. It’s a completely separate occasion to be in the main event on the grandest stage of all sports entertainment. It’s what everyone who puts on wrestling gear and trains for years wishes to accomplish. The possibility of one day wrestling in front of nearly 100,000 WWE fans is what compels wrestlers to drive hours for shows with only 100 or less fans.

It is likely that every WWE Superstar currently on the main roster has the same type of goal on the minds of those currently on the NXT roster and those who are training at the WWE Performance Center. Regardless of how many times someone is in a main event championship match, the desire to do better the next year will always be there.

It might be a little early to attempt to predict what the WWE might do for the next five WrestleMania main events. However, there’s nothing wrong with thinking up some dream matches that could involve superstars who might hang up their wrestling boots soon. There is also a new wave of talents who have started making impacts in the WWE and more in NXT waiting for their chance to be called up.

There’s a chance some of these won’t happen, just like there’s a chance all or none could happen. But part of the fun is thinking about potential dream matches that would get the fans excited. Main events for WrestleMania are meant to feel special and have that one-of-a-kind moment.

The following list attempts to predict the match-ups for the main events at the next five WrestleManias, as well as the winners of those match-ups.

15 WrestleMania 33 – The Undertaker

Soon enough, The Undertaker is going to hang up his wrestling boots permanently. If we’re going to be honest, there are not really a lot of reasons to keep having him come out for a WrestleMania match if the streak is done. That undefeated winning streak of WrestleMania matches that started in 1991 against Jimmy Snuka was ended by Brock Lesnar in 2014. However, that wasn’t the end of The Undertaker’s run in the WWE since he faced Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 31 and then Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 32.

There’s no guarantee that The Phenom is going to be in the right physical shape to do one more match. In fact, it has been a big concern over the last few years. But The Deadman keeps coming back in time for the big show. While there has not been any talks about The Undertaker recently, one would assume that 2017 could be his last year – although fans have speculated that for the last few years.

14 WrestleMania 33 – John Cena

There might be some debate as to whether Brock Lesnar was the right man to end the streak. That’s not going to change what happened. We can only look forward to the future and what would make sense if The Undertaker is going to compete in his last WWE WrestleMania match. If it is going to be slated for Wrestlemania 33 in 2017, then the right choice would have to be the 15-time World Heavyweight Champion, John Cena.

When you look back at Cena’s 2002 debut in the WWE, he made a huge impact then after taking Kurt Angle’s open challenge. The Undertaker was one of the superstars to greet him and show respect for the young rookie. While The Undertaker continued his historic career, Cena would establish himself as a legend in his own right. While they have faced each other, they have never had a high profile match sine Cena became the face of the company and this could be the right time for The Deadman to take his final curtain call against the leader of Cenation.

While Cena has received his fair share of criticism in the past, his in-ring abilities have improved in rivalries that feature Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins and AJ Styles. With his career likely winding down as well, Cena is going to pull out all of the stops in being able to put on a five-star match in what could be The Undertaker’s final match in the WWE. Considering the pedigree of both men, the WWE would definitely put a match-up like this at the top of a WrestleMania card.

As for how the match will go, one can expect several finishing moves to lead to close two-counts. This will also be a chance for both men to show how their respective move sets have changed since they first met in 2002. Expect Cena to maybe go into a dark mindset that he’s fought against for so long (i.e. teased heel turns) to defeat The Phenom in his final WWE match.

12 WrestleMania 34 – Roman Reigns

via bleacherreport.com
via bleacherreport.com

The WWE tried to make Roman Reigns the main guy, but the fans rejected him. Similar to John Cena, Reigns has definitely made some improvements in the ring and is slowly becoming a very reliable talent on the main roster. The problem with his push is that the fans felt there were others who were more deserving. It might explain why he is currently in a feud with Rusev for the United States Championship and maybe the WWE wants to let the fans get behind him on their own.

Eventually, Reigns is going to get better to a point where fans will show him more respect. Given a little more than a year to build up a streak with a mid-card championship like the U.S. Championship, unless of course he ends up winning the Universal Championship, Reigns could be poised to finally be embraced by the WWE Universe as “the guy.” Reigns would also be better as a neutral who has both face and heel tendencies in a way similar to how he was booked while feuding with AJ Styles for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship a few months prior.

11 WrestleMania 34 – John Cena

By this time in 2018, John Cena may have won championship gold and tied Ric Flair's record of 16. There’s also a chance that maybe the WWE realizes that having two separate heavyweight championships wasn’t such a good idea in the first place. Let’s say that Cena is still representing the blue brand of SmackDown and Reigns is still the main guy on the RAW roster. There is a good chance that the WWE is going to have Reigns hold the WWE Universal Championship and Cena hold the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

This would give Cena 16 world championship reigns under his belt and thus create a potential “Champion of Champions” storyline with Reigns that would be very interesting. It might not be the right WrestleMania main event for 2017. It could be something the fans in the WWE Universe can get behind if it is developed properly for the next 18 months or so.

The writing is on the wall that John Cena might not have a lot left in his tank. It is beneficial for him to take extended breaks from the ring to do different projects outside of the WWE. He’s about to take more time from WWE television to film the next season of American Grit. Don’t be surprised if Cena is contacted to do more reality competitions or other television programs. He’s already slowly becoming the next version of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, although not on the same box office level.

Therefore, this would be almost an instance of the torch being handed from Cena to Reigns to be the top star in the WWE. When taking into consideration how good their matches have been lately, this has a decent chance of being a definitive five-star match. It would help establish Reigns as a big star that was given the proper time to develop. It would also give Cena probably one of his final WrestleMania main events as he begins to slowly fade from the WWE.

9 WrestleMania 35 – Samoa Joe

It’s only a matter of time before Samoa Joe is called up from NXT to the WWE main roster. In fact, he will likely get a call up within the next few months before the end of 2016. If that’s the case, the WWE has a chance to really have something special with the Samoan Submission Machine. However, they can’t rush him into the championship picture right away. While it is true that he is one of the older members of the NXT brand, he probably has a few good years to have some five-star matches on the WWE’s main roster.

Joe is going to be given some time to have some memorable rivalries and would really benefit from being placed on the SmackDown roster. He could start with a feud with AJ Styles and then go up against wrestlers like Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler and John Cena with impressive showings whether he wins or loses.

8 WrestleMania 35 – Brock Lesnar

By the time WrestleMania 35 rolls around, the former NCAA, WWE and UFC heavyweight champion is likely going to be nearing the end of his WWE run. He’s also going to have built up a laundry list of victories over some of the WWE’s best of both the past and the new generation of WWE superstars. Lesnar will have truly developed himself as being the unstoppable monster, which could be the big story of WrestleMania 35.

The match-up against Samoa Joe wouldn’t have to necessarily involve one of the heavyweight championships. If both stars are developed to continue impressive records – not necessarily undefeated – a Lesnar and Joe matchup would be a great main event for the WrestleMania stage. If Lesnar is near the end of his WWE run that started back in 2012, he will be deserving of being on the main event spotlight one more time before leaving professional wrestling.

A match-up between Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar would have the makings of an instant classic. Both have ties to the world of mixed martial arts with Lesnar having won the UFC Heavyweight Championship in between his two runs in the WWE. Joe is an accomplished technician who has obviously trained in different styles to find a unique combination of strikes and submissions that would have a few slams sprinkled in the move set.

Because of how Lesnar has been booked over the past few years in the WWE, it can be difficult to see anyone be able to knock him off that dominant streak. That’s why the person would have to be someone that the WWE has established as a true threat to Lesnar’s position by really building up Samoa Joe. He also has the type of in-ring style that has the same vicious tenacity that can compete with someone like Lesnar.

6 WrestleMania 36 – Finn Balor

via kayfabenews.com

The injury that Finn Balor suffered during this year’s SummerSlam had the most unfortunate timing imaginable. The WWE obviously had big plans for the Demon King by having him become the first WWE Universal Champion and defeating Seth Rollins. The shoulder injury threw several wrenches into that plan and will keep Balor away for several months. This means that the WWE will have to wait to give him a main event push again.

That doesn’t mean he won’t be the WWE Universal Champion by this time. In fact, he will be holding that title going into WrestleMania 36. But he is going to have WrestleMania matches that fall short of being placed in the main event status. Given some time, however, Balor will likely be elevated to the top of the WWE by 2020. Balor is going to be a big draw and will finally have a chance to close out a WrestleMania card in what could be a match the worldwide audience will be extremely excited to see.

5 WrestleMania 36 – Shinsuke Nakamura

WrestleMania is an event that has attracted fans from all over the world and it would be a great idea to have superstars who have sold out large arenas around the world do the same in the WWE. As Balor will have become a top guy at this point in the WWE, fans would love to see a rematch from a July episode of NXT. Shinsuke Nakamura is likely going to make the jump from NXT Champion to the WWE main roster in about a year or so.

His jump to the WWE should happen in the next year, but as we've seen in WWE, it's difficult for guys to make that jump to the main event. By 2020 though, both will be well entrenched as top stars. Between Balor and Nakamura, fans in the international market are going to be extremely excited. Additionally, Nakamura is going to be a unique superstar that will be a big hit among all members of the WWE Universe.

The two are going to be a big hit in front of the WWE Universe and a matchup between the two is truly worth being the main event of WrestleMania 36. Both superstars were already big hits within New Japan Pro Wrestling and have had their legendary careers translated into being WWE superstars that quickly rose to the top of the main roster. Both are going to utilize their striking arsenal for one of the best striking matches we’ve seen in a long time.

The thing that allows Nakamura to have the edge in this match is the ability to utilize the Kinshasa finisher – a running knee strike to the opponent’s head – at any given moment. Similar to Randy Orton’s RKO, it’s a finisher that can be hit at different angles that can help lead to the winning pin. Nakamura defeating Balor for the WWE Universal Championship would lead to the WWE’s first Japanese heavyweight champion.

3 WrestleMania 37 – Kevin Owens

via 411 mania.com
via 411 mania.com

Kevin Owens is someone who has truly shown the WWE Universe that he can put together a five-star match with just about anyone. He’s given himself the nickname of “The Prizefighter” with big wins that include defeating John Cena on his first night since being called up from NXT – while holding the NXT Championship. And while Owens hasn’t had that big win as of this writing, he will likely hold championship gold within the next five years.

The WWE Universe has found Owens to be very entertaining and he certainly is one of the most gifted athletes on the WWE roster, even with the physique of someone who works as a supermarket stock person. Don’t let the cover of this book fool you as he will very likely win the WWE Universal Championship leading up to WrestleMania 37 in 2021 – where he would best be suited to face a long-time rival.

2 WrestleMania 37 – Sami Zayn

The WWE fans have enjoyed watching an underdog story that has inspired future generations of WWE superstars. With the success the WWE had with Daniel Bryan defying the odds to invade the WrestleMania XXX main event and win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Sami Zayn has the potential to bring some of that magic to the main event of WrestleMania 37. But this would be a different set of circumstances, starting with Zayn getting the win at the Royal Rumble to earn his spot in the match to challenge Owens.

Zayn will get a big pop winning the Royal Rumble match and will achieve that childhood dream of walking in front of nearly 100,000 fans to go into a championship match. It will be the end result of five years of having him come close before finally getting that big break to reach for the brass ring in professional wrestling.

These two have gone to war all over the world and the one thing that is for sure is the two will always be able to outdo their last encounter. Hopefully, the WWE will have waited until this point to have them wrestle eachother. Otherwise, the feud would not feel as special as it would having these former friends and now rivals face off for what will have likely been established as the top prize in the WWE – the WWE Universal Championship.

On top of that storyline, it would only be fitting to have Owens and Zayn square off in a ladder match for the championship belt. They know each other well enough to help execute what could be one of the best ladder matches in WWE history and can rival many of the ladder spots fans think of when they hear WrestleMania.

Zayn will likely get the win for largest potential pop from the fans, who will be the true winners since they will get to see this match live.
