WWE have relied on ex-Superstars to return to the company many times over the past few decades as a way to continue to sell out arenas. This has allowed WWE Universe to see some of their biggest fantasy matches.

The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan was huge. As well as when The Rock returned at WrestleMania XXVIII to face John Cena. Recently Goldberg made his return with the tagline: "Fantasy Warfare Just Got Real."

Goldberg did a good job for WWE over the past few months even though all three of his matches were not the most lengthy.

That has left the WWE Universe thinking that if Goldberg can come back to WWE after 12 years ,then what is stopping many other wrestlers from making their return and proving that age is just a number?

There are also many other wrestlers who have recently left WWE who would be able to return to the company on a short-term deal as a way to raise the ratings in the months that follow SummerSlam because this is considered to be the worst part of the WWE calendar year.

Here is a list of 15 Superstars who still have one big money match left in them.

15 15. Lita

via wwe.com

Lita is rumoured to be making her return to WWE behind the commentary desk for this summer's Mae Young Classic. But the WWE Universe doesn't want Lita to return behind a desk, they want her to return inside the squared circle she once called home.

Lita retired from WWE almost eleven years ago now and the landscape of WWE has changed a lot since then. With The Hardy Boyz making their return and the announcers mistakenly calling them Team Extreme a few times, could this be a hint that their long lost manager could be rejoining them? Either way, a return match for one of the best female wrestlers of all time would definitely be a money spinner for WWE and another great move when it comes to the Women's Revolution.

14 14. Rob Van Dam

via de.wwe.com

Rob Van Dam was once one of the Superstars that the WWE Universe could depend on to return whenever the company needed him. But recently it has been reported that RVD has turned down many returns because he will only dust off his wrestling boots if he feels that there is a big enough reason.

RVD is one of the kings of extreme, and a match against someone like Dean Ambrose would be fantastic for both men. It would be a worthy reason for Rob to make his return to WWE after a number of years. The former ECW Champion did the right thing by walking away from WWE because now the WWE Universe have been given the chance to miss him, which is exactly what they needed.

13 13. The Rock

via pagesix.com

The Rock has made his return to WWE many times over the past few years. But the last BIG money match that Dwayne was involved in was back at WrestleMania XXIX. There have been rumours of a match with The Rock and Triple H, but this speculation has never become anything official.

With the rise that Roman Reigns has had over the past few years, WWE could easily bring The Rock back for a feud with his cousin. It would be the perfect way to finally turn Roman heel. Since the WWE Universe already hate The Big Dog, this would only add to it. The Rock would do anything for his family, so this would be a definite money spinner if the company pitched it to The Great One.

12 12. Stone Cold Steve Austin

via picsofcelebrities.com

Stone Cold Steve Austin is one of the biggest legends in WWE and he has returned to the company many times in different formats. But still, hasn't delivered on that big money match. Last year Austin joked about a Texas Death Match with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania and it got the WWE Universe buzzing.

Austin always had injured knees and it seems that this is one of the reasons he can't be cleared to compete. If WWE could find a way to get Austin back into a match of that calibre against someone like Brock then it will definitely turn the heads of the WWE Universe. Two of the hardest men to have ever walked through a WWE curtain colliding for the first time, what is not to like?

11 11. Mick Foley

via stillrealtous.com

The former General Manager of Monday Night Raw set up something quite nicely with Triple H before he left that could easily lead to a match between the two in the near future. Of course, Mick has recently undergone hip surgery so it could be in the more distant future, but it's definitely on the cards.

Foley has a show on the WWE Network and it is thought that this is the main reason that he was brought back to be General Manager of Monday Night Raw in the first place. WWE could capitalize on a new season of the show which places Foley back in the ring. Even though he's not in the best kind of shape, Mick would be willing to wrestle again if he was given the chance and the WWE Universe would eat it up.

10 10. Sting

via sportzmode.com

The WCW Legend was said to have been holding out on announcing his retirement and undergoing neck surgery because he really wanted that marquee match against The Undertaker.

Sting was a man who was never supposed to appear in WWE and then he had two fantastic matches against Triple H and Seth Rollins before he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Sting is not a young man anymore and that match would not be a show stealer by any stretch of the imagination. But for fans who knew The Undertaker as the face of WWE and Sting as the face of WCW, it would be one of the greatest matches of all time and a definite money spinner for both men at the end of their respective careers.

9 9. Trish Stratus

via gbagam.com

The former seven-time Women's Champion was ready to make a return to WWE at NXT TakeOver: Toronto last year before it was revealed that she was pregnant for the second time. Mickie James was then called in to take her place.

Trish hasn't returned to WWE for many years now and with the upcoming Women's tournament in the summer and the globally renown Women's Revolution on-going, the record-breaking female wrestler who practically defined a generation has to return soon. Trish Stratus up against Charlotte would be a match that the WWE Universe would definitely pay to see. The answer to the question of who the best really is could finally be answered and the WWE Universe will finally be able to see one of their biggest fantasy matches.

8 8. Batista

via armpit-wrestling.com

Batista returned to WWE back in 2014 and won the Royal Rumble match. Then, the WWE Universe turned on him and he was forced to turn heel before he walked away from WWE and swore he wouldn't return.

Since then Batista has been a villain in James Bond's Spectre as well as Drax in Guardians of The Galaxy's last two outings. It seems that the former World Champion is doing well for himself outside of WWE and would definitely take some convincing if the WWE ever wanted him to return. Batista proved a few years ago that he definitely still has the ability and look, so maybe in a few years time when his movie career finally slows down, Batista will be up for returning to the place he found fame.

7 7. Daniel Bryan

via sportsrageous.com

The current General Manager of SmackDown Live was cruelly forced to retire from his lengthy wrestling career last year after it was made apparent that his neck/shoulder injury was never going to fully recover.

Bryan has since found a place in WWE where he is not forced to be part of the show physically. But it is obvious that he is slowly dying inside and hates being on the sidelines. The shoot interviews between Bryan and The Miz show that Bryan would step back in the ring if doctors would clear him. And even though it would be a gamble, it is obvious that at some point Bryan will be back in a ring even if it isn't a WWE one. So why wouldn't the company cash in on that?

6 6. The Undertaker

via baltimoresun.com

The Undertaker walked away from WWE at WrestleMania 33 and it seems that the WWE Universe are already trying to find loopholes that will ensure that The Deadman will return to the ring one day. Vince McMahon really wants to see John Cena up against The Undertaker, as it would be like a clash of two different generations and the WWE Universe seemed to like the idea as well.

The Undertaker also has Sting in the back of his head. And knowing that match would be a huge draw, it could only take place at WrestleMania. This means that it's obvious The Undertaker is not bowing out on a loss to Roman Reigns. The Deadman will rise again, maybe not in the near future, but definitely in the not too distant future.

5 5. Rey Mysterio

via wwe.com

Rey Mysterio was WWE's first real luchador that showed the Universe that anything was possible. Rey was a lot of fans first favorite wrestler and it was a hard thing for many fans to see him leave the company a few years ago.

Of course, his career was plagued with knee injuries but despite this, Rey has managed to continue to wrestle outside of WWE and is currently in the best shape of his career. It would be a masterstroke to bring Rey back especially with a number of Cruiserweights currently flying around WWE. Rey deserves to have the one last match that the company never gave him before he departed. Rey wasn't on the best terms with WWE when he did decide to leave though, so he could take a lot of convincing to come back.

4 4. Edge

via si.com

Let's be honest, in an alternative reality Edge would still be one of the biggest Superstars in WWE. He would still be nowhere near retirement, but his career was sadly cut short back in 2011 due to a terrible neck injury. One that means he can never wrestle again.

Edge defined a generation and was a true heel for most of his career. He was one of the greatest Superstars of that generation and John Cena's only true adversary. It is heartbreaking knowing that he can't actually return, but he could come back as a referee or as an unwilling participant in a match that isn't actually sanctioned much like Triple H vs. Seth Rollins at WrestleMania. If WWE wanted Edge to return, they would definitely find a way around it.

3 3. CM Punk

via cmpunk.com

CM Punk walked away from WWE back in 2014 and has since made the switch over to UFC. The former WWE Champion seems to be doing OK for himself outside of WWE and after everything he has said about Triple H and Vince McMahon, it is highly unlikely that he will ever darken a WWE stage again, but image if he did.

Punk will run out of money at some point and he will be dropped by UFC when his spotlight stops shining as bright. So maybe in a few years time WWE fans will see the shocking news that CM Punk has decided to return to the company for that big money match because he needs to cash in. It goes back on everything he's said, but every wrestler goes back on their word at some point and this would be a perfect way to do it. A very personal match between CM Punk and Triple H would definitely be a money maker.

2 2. Kurt Angle

via wwe.com

Kurt Angle recently returned to WWE in a format where he wears a suit and makes decisions. This isn't the Angle that the WWE Universe has come to know and love. Angle needs to be in the ring breaking ankles.

When Rusev was at the height of his Hero of the Russian Federation storyline, this would have been the perfect time for Kurt to return and finally show him what a real American can bring to the table. But right now, there is another enemy on the SmackDown brand that Kurt could set straight instead. If Jinder Mahal vs. Kurt Angle isn't enough, then WWE could easily set up that epic match between Angle and Triple H instead. We all know how much Triple H loves a match at WrestleMania.

1 1. Shawn Michaels

via m.goliath.com

Shawn Michaels is one of the only WWE legends to walk away from the company and actually stay away. Michaels stated that he was retired and hasn't competed in a televised match ever since. Fantasy matches against AJ Styles and Seth Rollins have been put on the table but even when WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble were in his home state of Texas, Michaels could not be persuaded to make his return.

Michaels currently works for WWE as a trainer at the Performance Center, but it would be interesting if WWE could convince him to come back just for one match. He has proven that he stands by his word but he is missed and there's a time limit on how long he would be able to do this. So, maybe the money could convince HBK to have ONE more match?
