The signing of Anna Jay by AEW was based on potential and it is already paying off. Jay did not have much wrestling experience, but the powers that be believed she was going to progress into a major player. AEW is already witnessing the improvement and overall star power of Jay helping the depth of the women’s division.

The future of any young wrestler can see things go up or down quickly based on booking and the ability to thrive when called upon. Jay is proving AEW right a lot faster than most expected as part of the Dark Order. Even the biggest supporters expected it to take longer to reach this level, especially with a severe injury writing her off television for months. AEW lucked out with the signing of Jay.

AEW's Eye For Talent

The signing of Anna Jay in AEW came just five matches into her career. Jay made the move to start training when family friend and former WCW star Glacier helped her get started. Glacier’s ties to AEW with Cody Rhodes and QT Marshall eventually landed Jay to do more training at the Nightmare Factory to have other important minds see her potential.RELATED: Top 10 AEW Wrestlers Under The Age Of 30, Ranked By Potential

AEW bringing Jay in for a few matches on Dark would lead to a contract offer and role on television faster than expected. Anna actually spent the first chapter of her career without a live crowd since she debuted after the pandemic shutdown prevented fans from attending shows. AEW showed a lot of faith just in having someone with minimal experience getting introduced on television before she worked in front of the fans.

Faster Success Than Expected

There was a cool introduction for Anna Jay with hype for her first Dynamite match that ended in a shocking loss to Abadon. AEW made Jay more important by having her previous gimmick end when she was squashed in her debut match and joined Dark Order for a bigger opportunity. Brodie Lee was thriving as the Dark Order leader to make the group important for the first time since their tough start in AEW.

Dark Order needed a woman in the faction to combat Brandi Rhodes during Brodie’s feud with Cody Rhodes. Jay losing and joining the group was the perfect way to introduce her character's desire to join the faction. No one could have predicted Anna’s character skills would have been good enough this early in her career to become a major part.

Anna Jay Dark Order

The moments of Jay choking out Brandi as a sadistic heel and later getting involved in comedic Dark Order segments with Jon Silver showed her range. Anna’s improvement in the ring was also quite impressive for someone in her situation. The lack of experience, getting used to performing without a live audience, and suffering a brutal injury in her first year would have seen many other wrestlers failing in Jay’s situation, but she always prevailed to already become a successful signing.

Anna Jay Has An Unlimited Ceiling

Anna Jay is a solid part of the AEW women’s division and Dark Order, even if she never improved upon her current status. The scary thing is that Jay is nowhere near her prime and should be significantly better in a year or two. Anna and Tay Conti have become the most popular tag team in the women’s division. Even though there aren’t tag titles for the AEW women’s division, the bond helps them both improve together on the fly.

Even though Ford and Bunny have more experience, Tay and Anna felt like the bigger stars leading the feud. Anna Jay during her entrance on AEW Dark

There has been criticism towards AEW for not having enough top players in the women’s division. One positive to that is that they’ve dedicated a lot of time to women like Anna, Tay, Jade Cargill, Red Velvet and a few others who have the chance to progress into much bigger stars with more experience. Jay deserves to be mentioned at the top of the list based on the variables placed on her.

Dark Order drastically changing from a hated cult faction to a lovable group of underdogs after Brodie Lee’s passing saw Anna stepping up. The role of Anna one year ago was a heel trying to figure things out in the ring. Jay is now a beloved face credible enough to have compelling matches and segments. The wild twist is that Anna is on pace to become even better as a huge star with no ceiling defined just yet.
