Having been in the business since 2007, AEW's Athena is one of the most experienced female wrestlers on Tony Khan's roster, and that is one of the reasons she is such a key addition to the roster. Athena offers knowledge and star power, all while still being able to work at the highest level inside the ring.

Throughout her time in the business, Athena has accomplished a lot, from capturing titles, working on the indies, and reaching WWE. She has achieved a lot, but throughout that time Athena has changed things up, and always done what it took to get over with the fans.

When Athena broke into the business, she did so working under her own name back in 2007, after being trained by WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T. This was long before she had nailed down a specific gimmick or put together great gear, but every wrestler has to start somewhere and this was it for Athena.

She initially got to compete for PCW, with this being the place she got her first big break, and while she wasn't working at the level she does today, Athena did enough to get picked up elsewhere.

9 Working In Shimmer

Athena's first major break in wrestling came for the promotion Shimmer, which has seen many of the world's greatest women's stars compete over the years. At this point, she was able to develop her Athena character, and that helped her to start making a big name for herself.

The matches she had at this time helped proved to the world just how good she was as a performer, getting to work against some of the top talents around at that time in women's wrestling, developing her skills to become someone fans wanted to see.

Another promotion that Athena was able to make her name for was Women Superstars Uncensored, where she worked from 2011 to 2015, putting on some great matches along the way. She got the chance to challenge for championship gold during this period, and that was a big step for her.

Athena was also able to put in quite a lot of intergender matches over these years, and that is something that helped to establish her even further, with this promotion making a big impact on her rise to the top.

7 AIW Work

AIW was another place where Athena broke out on the independent scene, and while she didn't work there as often as some other places, it was certainly a promotion she got a lot of opportunities. Athena held gold for this promotion, which was a huge deal in terms of kicking her to the next level.

This period wasn't so much about building a character or establishing promos as much as it was just putting on great matches, but that is something Athena thrived in, and is what helped to build her reputation in the first place.

6 Joining WWE

Ember Moon NXT debut

In 2015 Athena put pen to paper with WWE, which was a huge step for her as a performer, becoming Ember Moon in the process, which was something fans were excited about. Those who knew her work were aware she'd be a good fit in NXT, and that is exactly what she was.

Moon initially started out feuding against The IIconics, with this being a way to introduce her to the crowd, and that is exactly what happened. She was popular from the start, with this being a big spot for her.

5 Feuding With Asuka

Arguably the greatest section of her career to this point took place during her feud against Asuka in NXT, as they are two women who had special chemistry. They both worked as babyfaces, the fans loved them, and they never let anybody down with their classic matches for the NXT Women's Championship.

At the time, Asuka had an undefeated streak in WWE, and many thought that Moon was going to be the person to break it. While she never did, their storyline still became an iconic one that got everybody talking due to how good it was.

4 NXT Women's Champion

While Ember Moon couldn't take the NXT Women's Championship away from Asuka, that doesn't mean she never got hold of it. After the Empress Of Tomorrow vacated it, Moon was the next to hold it, and she went on to have a fantastic storyline against Shyna Baszler afterward.

Moon was a solid champion, and it was a spot that she had more than earned due to the great work that she had put in during her time with the company before that. This was a true peak for her in WWE, but it was a spot where she proved her abilities.

3 Main Roster Run

After WrestleMania 34 Ember Moon was put on the main roster, which is something that a lot of people were excited about due to the qualities she had. Her run in NXT was great and fans wanted to see her work with all of the main roster stars, but her time on Raw was not a great one.

Moon was never utilized properly, she didn't get the push she deserved, and despite the fact that she was a great talent the creative team never got behind this in the manner that they should have done. There were no major storylines or moments of note, and that was a missed opportunity for the company.

2 NXT Women's Tag Team Champion

After being injured during the end of her main roster run, when she returned WWE opted to put her back in NXT, and that is something that brought fire back to her. She was able to get back to her best, putting together great work inside the ring while being a featured star again.

The best point of that came when she began teaming with Shotzi Blackheart as they ended up holding the NXT Women's Tag Team Championships. While their partnership started as quite a random one, they ended up winning the fans over with their personalities, and that is something that showed their qualities.

Athena debuts in AEW

The most recent chapter of Athena's wrestling career saw her become All Elite, as she became the latest star to sign for AEW. She originally appeared at Double Or Nothing in 2022 following Jade Cargill's match, and Athena was met with an unbelievable ovation from the fans.

Since that point, she has been appearing consistently inside the ring as a top babyface, and it is clear that the company has got high hopes for her, which is why Athena is used so much. While there could be plenty of changes in her future, the early signs are positive for this pairing.
