Double or Nothing has been billed as arguably AEW's biggest show to date. Unfortunately, heading in, the news was all about MJF and whether he would show up for his match with Wardlow or not. AEW promoted his involvement, he did show and he did the job. It appears an uncomfortable situation was ironed out, if even just for a few hours.

In between, there were a few successful title defenses, a great match between Kyle O'Reilly and Darby Allin, the Finals of the Owen Hart Tournament took place for both the men and women, the Hardys faced off against The Young Bucks and The Anarchy in the Arena Match was memorable. No titles change hands until the end of the night when the big-ticket match-up that was CM Punk challenging for the AEW Championship against Adam Page left the fans divided. Did Punk prove he's the best and can he carry AEW as the face of the company?

Winner: MJF Shows Up, Wardlow Gets His Contract

AEW booked MJF vs. Wardlow as the opening contest of the night. Whether they felt that was the big draw early or Tony Khan didn't want to take any chances that MJF might change his mind and mess with the booking, it was the right call as the crowd was absolutely hot for what everyone knew was coming. Wardlow dominated MJF, landing 10 powerbombs and relishing every moment of the match because he's been carrying so much frustration with him for so long. MJF did his best to avoid the beating but Wardlow wasn't about to let him get away.

This match was what it needed to be -- a lengthy squash. MJF might be upset with AEW but he did his job and made Wardlow look like a star. Time will tell if this is the end of the road for MJF in AEW, but it's clear Wardlow has a very bright future. He was given an "official" contract by AEW and was quite emotional in accepting. This was a great way to kick off the show.

Winner/Loser: Hardys vs Young Bucks

Our correspondent at the show said a lot of fans made their way to the restroom when this match began. Perhaps AEW was wrong to assume this was the dream match people wanted to see? To be fair, while the match started slowly and looked a bit chaotic, as it went along, things got better and the crowd got hotter. At one point, the live audience even chanted "This is awesome!".

Credit where it's due, these two teams got the crowd back involved and the Hardys picked up a big win after a series of fun moves. This is clearly not the two best teams in the world anymore, but the match wasn't a total letdown.

Winner/Loser: Athena and Stokely Debut

After a match that lasted a lot longer than most people probably would have expected and with Anna Jay getting in a lot more offense than most fans probably would have imagined, both Malcolm Bivens (Stokely Hathaway) and Ember Moon (Athena) debuted for AEW. This was an overbooked segment with a bit too much going on. But, it did bring two talents to AEW that fans are happy to see there. That's a plus.

Winner: House of Black vs. Death Triangle

This was an all-thrills, action-packed six-man tag match that had fans oohing and aahing throughout. The energy was high from the start and never faded, even when the lights went out to finish the match with Julia Hart appearing and spitting black mist in the face of Pac for the win. If this is what trios matches are going to be like, they'll be a lot of fun. At the same time, it seems wise to make the traditional tag rules officially suspended during these contests. There are too many occasions where all the competitors are in the ring and the official can't do anything about it.

House of Black looked really good here and Malakai Black proved he was one step ahead of everyone when he had Hart ready to strike. Death Triangle was as good as expected. Good match. Hectic match. Fun match.

Winners: Adam Cole and Britt Baker

Considering this was the first time these two have ever met in the ring, there were high expectations for this contest. And, considering it was the Finals of the Owen Hart Tournmanent on the men's side, there probably should have been more to this. That said, it wasn't bad, just a little underwhelming. The finish seemed lackluster but the two men had decent chemistry. The biggest issue was the fact that both men have such a stellar reputation for incredible matches, this so-so bout comes off as a bit lesser than it probably was.

This is a good win for Cole though. He could use a little boost as a singles wrestler in AEW and his ability to say he won the first-ever Owen Hart Tournament is something he can brag about moving forward.

Britt Baker became the first winner of the Owen Hart Tournament on the women's side. Some fans won't love the decision to overlook Ruby Soho and many will argue AEW missed an opportunity to really build her up as a threat in the women's division. That said, Baker standing beside Adam Cole to accept the two belts feels right and at that moment, it's ok to forget that both are playing the heel role with their characters.

Baker and Soho had a strong match and she's certainly the face of AEW Women's Division. A win for her Ruby would have done more, but a win for Baker makes sense as she stays front and center without holding the title.

Winner: Kyle O'Reilly vs. Darby Allin

The least promoted match of the evening wound up being the match of the night. O'Reilly and Allin brought it and the action was fast-paced and impactful as the two men beat the tar out of each other. O'Reilly picked up the win after landing three running kicks to the face of Allin and then a top-rope knee. It seems like Allin has taken a bit of backseat in AEW, but he's still putting on tremendous matches. Hopefully, AEW appreciates that and gives him another push in the future.

O'Reilly looked at the top of his game on Sunday, mixing in technical wrestling with brute force. This match might be one to remember as the start of his ascension on the roster. If he becomes something bigger in AEW, people will look back at this match and realize this might have been where he stood out as a singles star.

Winner: Thunder Rosa vs. Serena Deeb

This was an evenly-matched contest between two women who were given time to showcase their skills in the ring and both Rosa and Deeb did so. As the match wore on, both took more chances and J.R. suggested the match was teetering on the verge of being sloppy. Really, it was just that the two competitors had given each other their best and were wearing down, selling each other's moves. Rosa picked up the expected win here but this was a good showing for Deeb who reminded everyone about how good she is. Fans stuck with this match despite it's length and being later in the card.

Winner: Anarchy In The Arena

For fans who wanted to see a gang rules car crash, Anarchy in the Arena was right up their alley. It was clear from all the outset that this wasn't going to resemble anything like a wrestling match. This was pure chaos where the objective was to have everyone bleed and keep the fans looking around the arena to see if they could keep up with the action. There was a lot going on until the final moments when Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, Jake Hager and Chris Jericho wound up in the ring. Eventually, Danielson passed out to a Walls of Jericho while Hager choked him out with the removed top ring rope.

The big moments of the match were the barbed wire spot where Moxley went over (not really through) a table, Santana and Ortiz doing a double table spot off the ladder, and Eddie Kingston trying to light Jericho on fire and Danielson saying Jericho's life. The best way to describe this match was that it was a total sh-- show. It will certainly be one to remember.

Winner: Jurassic Express Retain Their Titles

A fun match that saw the big men get their moment before the high-fliers got their moment, there was a lot of fun spots, close finishes and entertaining moments in the tag team title match. The outcome is probably a bit unexpected, especially considering a title hadn't changed hands on the show. Credit to all three teams as they had to follow the destruction that was the Anarchy in the Arena Match.

Winner: CM Punk vs Hangman Page

This was a main event that felt like a main event. After a long night of action, these two were left the task of keeping the fans glued to their story and they did an admirable job. The fans were mixed on who to cheer for and each time a competitor went to get a reaction from the crowd, the boos were obvious. This was a slower-paced match but that worked for the occasion. The finish was well done as Page thought about using the title to his advantage when Punk was defenseless and the official was knocked silly. His conscious got the better of him and he paid the ultimate price. Punk hit a GTS for the win.

It's now Punk's time to prove he is a difference-maker for AEW. He's got the belt and no excuses. It will be expected he draw big numbers and elevate the entire promotion. Can he do it? We're about to find out.
