AEW and NXT are set to clash once again later this year.
Dynamite went up against WWE’s developmental brand on Wednesday night for several weeks following AEW’s introduction of its television show, however, NXT was later moved to Tuesday nights, ending the apparent Wednesday Night War.
The shows will end up airing on the same night for the first time in over a year, and possibly not for the last time, on October 17 due to MLB playoff scheduling.
Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer discussed as much this week, also noting SmackDown is likely to air on FS1 at least twice for the same reason.
“AEW and WWE are both gonna have dates changed because of the upcoming Major League Baseball playoffs,” he said (H/T WrestleTalk.com). "It’s not gonna affect anything until mid-October, but there will be an October 17 head-to-head on Tuesday with Dynamite from Cincinnati and NXT. First time they’ve gone head-to-head in over a year."
“The next week is going to be – it’s the American League Championship, and if there’s a Game 7 in the American League Championship, the AEW… it (the game) would be on Wednesday, so that’s the 26th. If that’s the case, they would probably have to move – the show would still be taped on Wednesday night, but they’d probably have to (air it) after the game or more likely on Thursday.
“There will be at least one, perhaps two SmackDowns during the World Series moved to FS1. One for sure as there is every year. If there’s a Game 6 of the World Series that would be the second week, so it depends how the World Series goes.”
How Will NXT Stack Up Against Dynamite Under New Management?
That episode of NXT will hold extra intrigue as it will be interesting to see whether the WWE product can beat AEW’s this time around as Triple H is now head of creative following the departure of Vince McMahon.
The 11-time World Champion has already overseen plenty of changes to WWE shows and the reception has been overwhelmingly positive. A ratings win over Dynamite in what should be the only clash of 2022 would be a cool extra for the new booker.
