When it comes to independent wrestling promotions which are woven into the fabric of professional wrestling, it would be difficult not to bring Pro Wrestling Guerilla into that discussion. Founded in 2003 in Reseda, California, PWG has long been a beacon for great wrestling and has attracted some of wrestling's biggest independent acts and put on some incredible shows over the years.

Given the talent that has wrestled for PWG over the years, many of them have moved on to even bigger and better things, including working with All Elite Wrestling. In fact, many of the wrestlers who have held the PWG World Championship call AEW home, but only some of them can call themselves the upper echelon of both promotions.

10 Chuck Taylor

Chuck Taylor

Considering that Chuck Taylor is often treated as a comical jester in AEW, it is difficult for the average wrestling fan to recognize that he is a two-time PWG World Champion. Outside of the tag team division, Taylor has achieved some success on the independent circuit.

While he has shown promise and received adoration from the crowd for his antics, Taylor leaves plenty to be desired in comparison to other wrestlers on the roster. If he was taken more seriously - and took himself more seriously - he may have a chance at achieving similar success in AEW.

9 Frankie Kazarian

Frankie Kazarian in AEW

There are few wrestlers with long resumes like Frankie Kazarian. With a long career that spans both the independent circuit and larger companies, he has applied his craft for longer than some of the other members on the roster have been alive.

When Kazarian became the inaugural PWG World Champion in 2003, he was among the elite of the independent wrestling scene. However, almost twenty years later he is struggling to maintain his footing among the younger talent in AEW.

8 Kyle O'Reilly

Kyle O'Reilly in AEW

Kyle O'Reilly has made a name for himself as both a tag team and singles wrestler, but he has struggled to achieve relevancy in AEW. With so many great wrestlers surrounding him, it is difficult for him to stand out for anything other than being a great in-ring technician.

O'Reilly defeated his former tag team partner Adam Cole following a slow build of him becoming worthy enough to challenge for the PWG World Championship. As one of his crowning singles division achievements, hopefully, he can reach that same level in AEW.

7 Daniel Garcia

Daniel Garcia vs CM Punk

With one of the smallest resumes among former PWG World Champions, Daniel Garcia has quickly proven himself to be a force in AEW. Despite only having a few years under his belt as a wrestler, Garcia has a very bright future ahead of him following a string of championship wins.

In AEW, Garcia has managed to hold his own against wrestlers like Bryan Danielson and become Ring of Honor Pure Champion, all while being the reigning PWG World Champion. Ultimately, this points toward solid success in the future if he can maintain this pace.

6 Bandido

While mainstream wrestling fans may have had to Google who Bandido is, they certainly are aware of his appearances with AEW. However, fans of Lucha Libre, Ring of Honor and PWG are well aware of his skill level and are looking forward to him being showcased on a bigger stage.

Bandido's PWG World Championship reign took place mainly during the COVID-19 pandemic, so he was not able to defend his championship much. However, he has proven that he is capable of being the flag bearer for a company, and may receive that chance in AEW in time.

5 Keith Lee

Keith Lee as an AEW Tag Champion.

The future is limitless for Keith Lee, and he has proven that if he is given the opportunity he can excel in the main event scene. In a short period of time, Lee became one of the most popular wrestlers on the independent scene, and PWG was one promotion that gave him a shot.

While his reign as champion was short due to his signing with WWE, his track record has proven that he is a once-in-a-generation athlete. With the combination of size, strength and agility, Lee is a multi-faceted wrestler who has nothing but greatness in his future in AEW.

4 Claudio Castagnoli

claudio castagnoli

Despite being a fairly new acquisition for AEW, Claudio Castagnoli already has the fan backing to push him all the way to the top of the company. Combined with the fact that he has been waiting for years to finally break out to the top of a large company, and he is already among the elite members of the roster.

Castagnoli's run on the independent circuit made him one of the most popular stars, and he was a mainstay in PWG prior to signing with WWE. Now that he has caught the attention of fans and is getting the spotlight he deserves, there is no telling what he can accomplish with the backing of AEW management.

3 Adam Cole

Adam Cole AEW 2

At one point, Adam Cole was the crown jewel of PWG and the longest-reigning PWG World Champion. Starting in 2012, Cole was not only at the top of the roster, but he also seemed unbeatable while taking on any challenger in front of him.

Now with successful stints as both Ring of Honor World Champion and NXT Champion under his belt, combined with plenty of experience being the top wrestler in numerous promotions, it seems inevitable that Cole will become the top wrestler in AEW. Given his experience, it is only a matter of time before he adds another World Championship to his resume.

2 Kenny Omega

Kenny Omega

Widely considered to be one of the best wrestlers in the world, Kenny Omega has travelled the world and proven exactly that for many years. While his permanent residence was in Japan for many years, he made excursions to North America to continue to show audiences why he was the best.

Considering that PWG normally attracts the best talent, Omega spent plenty of time there throughout his career. While his PWG World Championship reign did not last long, he has made a lasting impression throughout his entire career for just how good he is in the ring, particularly during his reign as AEW World Champion.

1 Bryan Danielson

bryan danielson

For several decades, Bryan Danielson has been considered one of the greatest wrestlers to ever step foot into a wrestling ring. Considered to be among the greatest in-ring technicians of all time, Danielson has applied his craft all over the world and been successful wherever he went.

As a two-time PWG World Champion, Danielson was also the first former champion to become WWE Champion. With a resume that spans several decades, with numerous accolades and big-time championship wins, Danielson is easily one of the most successful wrestlers to spend time in the Reseda, California promotion.
