Jurassic Express lost against The Young Bucks at Dynamite: Road Rager to bring an end to their 161-day run as the AEW Tag Team Champions. In hindsight, it was not much of a success, as Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus failed to deliver with the belts around their waist.

There were multiple reasons for that, of course. Some within their control and some they could have done nothing about. Ultimately though, it would not be a stretch to say that they were the weakest AEW Tag Team champions so far.

Jurassic Express Had Already Lost The Majority Of Their Momentum And Popularity

During the early days of AEW, Jurassic Express had been one of the most popular tag teams in the company. Luchasaurus brought something very different to the table, which was just the right mixture of entertainment and pro wrestling. On the other hand, many believed that Jungle Boy was destined to be a main event player in AEW sooner or later.

Fast-forward almost three years and the situation is very different. The Luchasaurus gimmick seems to have run its course and has been an afterthought for a while. On the other hand, Jungle Boy has never broken out as a true star despite being hyped up as one of the pillars of the company alongside MJF, Darby Allin, and Sammy Guevara. In fact, his body of work is the last impressive out of those four.

A couple of years back, a Jurassic Express title reign had the potential to be huge. Now though, it was a major disappointment and barely got any attention from the fans.

There Are Several Better Tag Teams Than Jurassic Express In AEW

Logically, the AEW Tag Team Championships should signify that you are the best tag team in the company at the point that you are holding them. It would be safe to say that was not the case with Jurassic Express. On the contrary, they might be the fifth or sixth-best tag team in AEW right now.

FTR have been red-hot for some time and might very well be the best tag team in the world right now when you consider every aspect of pro wrestling. Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley are two of the biggest names in the industry and a super team. The Young Bucks will always be one of the central points of the company's tag team division. The likes of Santana & Ortiz and The Lucha Brothers are more over than Jurassic Express as well. And while The Hardy Boyz have struggled badly, they are legends of the game and have much bigger name value.

Pairing Jurassic Express With Christian Did Not Work

Marko Stunt had been the original third member of the Jurassic Express and remained in that role for a long time, even though he was not everybody's cup of tea due to his lack of size. Ultimately, AEW would decide to phase out Stunt from his association with the team, and he has since then has left the company.

With Stunt out of the picture, Christian was placed as the third member of the group and played somewhat of a mentor role to Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus.

On paper, it might have seemed like a good idea. Christian has decades of experience in the business, name value, and can still go in the ring. The execution just did not work out though. Perhaps it was because fans had grown accustomed to seeing Stunt in that role, or the fact that Christian just did not fit into the look of the group.

It has felt forced instead of something that was organic, and it came as a relief to many fans when Christian finally turned on Jungle Boy at Dynamite: Road Rager, ending his association with the group.

Jurassic Express Have Not Improved Since The Start Of AEW

At the start of AEW, it had felt like Jurassic Express were one of the best tag teams in the company. Those were the early days of the company though and a lot of people were getting their first taste of them competing in front of big crowds and on television.

Over the next few years, a number of wrestlers on AEW television have developed and improved, getting better with experience. On the other hand, Jurassic Express seem to have stagnated.

The weaknesses in Luchasaurus' game have been exposed as we see him more. While Jungle Boy has potential in the ring, as a character, he seems to have fallen flat on his face, showing little to no charisma and mic skills. As a result, it should come as no surprise that they have been left behind by many others in the company.
