AEW reportedly had "a plan" to bring in former WWE superstar Bray Wyatt (real name Windham Rotunda), whose 90-day non-compete clause expired on Oct. 29.

Wyatt was released by WWE on July 31, and the move sent shockwaves across the wrestling world. The 34-year-old was less than a year removed from a Universal Championship reign, and he looked like a top main event star the company wanted to work around long-term.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that ther was "a plan in place at one point" for AEW to bring Wyatt in. However, Meltzer added that Wyatt "didn't want to come in at this point", as he'll be occupied filming a movie with close friend Jason Baker, whom he worked with during his tenure in WWE. Filming will take place in Tennessee later this month, Baker revealed.

Meltzer also noted that Impact Wrestling "also had interest" in Wyatt. It was previously reported several months ago that Impact Wrestling was the likely landing spot for Wyatt, and that the company wanted him, Bronson Reed and Braun Strowman at their Bound for Glory event on Oct. 23, though that obviously neither happened.

AEW President and CEO Tony Khan recently stated that he hasn't yet talked to Wyatt about "coming to AEW", and that they last saw each other at Chris Jericho's birthday party a year ago.

Wyatt & AEW Would Be An Excellent Fit

Wyatt is one of the most creative and unique wrestlers of this era, but he was often a victim of bad booking in WWE. The company greatly failed to capitalize on his strong popularity and momentum for several years, despite his status as a major merchandise seller.

It's impossible to envision AEW possibly underusing Wyatt the way WWE did. He could easily become a long-term main event star there, and given AEW's track record of maximizing the talents of formwe WWE talents, it's safe to say that the former Universal Champion would be a superb fit there.
