The end of the year is here, and it marks another year in the books for All Elite Wrestling. After arriving on the scene in 2019, the promotion has seen its fair share of ups and downs, with 2022 specifically seeing some very high highs, as well as a number of very damming lows.

Though the second half of AEW's 2022 would be marred in controversy, the company has been looking to rebound as of late, delivering one of the best PPVs of the year with AEW Full Gear, and a number of great Dynamites in the weeks following. With new signings being made, young talent on the rise, and spotlights ready to be shown in the new year, there are a number of wrestlers that could be breakout stars for AEW in 2023!

10 Big Bill

William Morrissey

While most fans know him for his time within WWE as Big Cass, the big man has reinvented himself following a highly underrated run within Impact Wrestling. Now wrestling as Big Bill, the man was first brought into AEW earlier in the year as a one-off match for Wardlow. Later, he would debut as a part of The Firm, a faction that seems to be slowly being phased out.

While his path forward is unknown, the sky is the limit for the big man who got sober, got into shape, and put the work in to become one of the best big men in wrestling over the past year.

9 Julia Hart

After debuting as a lovable cheerleader in AEW, Julia Hart finally turned to the dark side in 2022, throwing in with Malakai Black and the rest of the House of Black as the valet for her male counterparts while also continuing to get reps in on AEW Dark. Under her new heel persona, Julia has shown major improvements on her Dark matches while also fitting the role of the valet much, much better as a heel than she did as a babyface.

While she is one of the youngest stars in AEW, her ceiling is very high, and over the coming years, Julia could even become a staple of the Women's Division in AEW. With the House of Black back and stronger than ever, 2023 could be a breakout year for the 21-year-old.

8 Preston Vance

Handpicked for The Dark Order by the late, great Mr. Brodie Lee, Preston Vance was one of Brodie's proteges in AEW, alongside Anna Jay. Since Brodie's passing, Dark Order's stock in AEW has fallen drastically. After months of Andrade trying to recruit 10 away from the group, he would finally turn his back in late 2022, unmasking and becoming Preston Vance once more.

With his facial hair grown out, a great physique, and a lot of upside, Preston now has the hard test ahead of him of breaking out of the Dark Order mold. A great, genuinely shocking heel turn helped kickstart his new heel run, and aligning with Rush could help him even further as one of the AEW stars to keep a watch on in 2023, though it remains to be seen how high his ceiling is as of now.

7 Kiera Hogan

Having just recently been outed from The Baddies by AEW TBS Champion, Jade Cargill, the young Kiera Hogan is now out on her own in AEW and will likely be getting a babyface turn sooner or later. While it has yet to happen, it does seem like she also may be aligning with Rap Artist Bow Wow for a feud with Jade, something that will likely make many fans roll their eyes.

While the Bow Wow program is not a great one, it does show that Tony Khan & AEW as a whole do view Kiera Hogan as an asset, and rightfully so. Having a strong run in Impact's Knockouts Division, and delivering one of the most underrated matches in AEW this year, against Athena on Rampage, Kiera is a rising star in the growing women's division within AEW. At 28 years old, Kiera Hogan could be another strong contender for a breakout role in AEW next year.

6 Bandido

Making his AEW during the latter portion of 2022, Bandido would be a surprise challenger for Chris Jericho's ROH World Championship. While the former world champion would fail to win back the Ring of Honor belt that he lost to Jonathan Gresham, Bandido would impress enough to start a bidding war between Tony Khan & WWE. The luchador would ultimately sign with AEW and would then participate in the AEW World Championship Eliminator Tournament.

While he is not featured in a storyline right now, he is one of the hottest free agent signings for AEW in 2022, and with Revolution taking place in March 2023, a strong place on the card could see Bandidio entering the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match or challenging for the All-Atlantic Championship. Regardless, Bandido is likely to become an even bigger star as a full-time roster member for AEW.

5 Skye Blue

Despite appearing regularly for AEW, Skye Blue has somewhat shockingly not gotten her #AllElite graphic yet. Still having yet to have a truly big moment in her AEW career, it could just be a matter of timing before announcing it, similar to how Willow Nightingale was signed earlier in 2022 after a big performance. With her young age on her side, Skye Blue seems like a no-brainer pick for a potential breakout star.

Should she get 'officially' signed by Tony Khan in 2023, Skye Blue could become the top babyface in AEW's women's division due to her regularly improving ring work and overall likability.

4 Darius Martin

Darius Martin AEW

Having nothing but bad luck over the past few years, Darius Martin of Top Flight's AEW career has been plagued by injuries. First came an ACL injury that kept him on the shelf for a year, before he would return in early 2022, only to then be involved in a serious car accident that shelved him again for 7 months. Finally returning in the fall, Darius Martin is looking to make up for lost time.

With the AEW Tag Division lacking in star power right now, outside FTR and The Acclaimed, building up new teams such as Top Flight is a must for the company. There is no better time for the young brothers to become true stars in AEW, with 2023 being eyed for a breakout year as Darius looks to impress crowds the same way Dante Martin has done on his own.

3 Leyla Hirsch

Leyla Hirsch

Taking part in an interesting feud with Kris Statlander early in 2022, Leyla Hirsch seemed to be on the rise in AEW, though she would suffer an untimely injury during a Dark match. With her return penciled in for sometime in 2023, the young New Jersey native will be looking to try and breakout once again.

With the Women's Division in AEW garnering a newfound spotlight thanks to the rise of Jade Cargill, Jamie Hayter, and Toni Storm, the arrival of Saraya, and the hard work of names like Britt Baker & Hikaru Shida, Leyla will be coming back with more chances to shine than before. In 2023, this women's star with an amateur background could steal the show from other AEW women.

2 Konosuke Takeshita

Konosuke Takeshita in AEW

Making waves in AEW during the Summer 2022, Konosuke Takeshita officially signed with the company during Full Gear weekend. While some could argue that his run in the summer was enough to warrant him being a breakout star in 2022, he did not feature in any real storylines and was just showing that he is a great wrestler.

Now under contract with AEW and having moved to the United States, Takeshita is already developing a storyline in AEW as he is being scouted by The Elite's Don Callis. Where this goes is anyone's guess, but Takeshita is a name that could rise up the card in 2023, with a reign as All-Atlantic Champion more than likely for the Japanese star.

1 Swerve Strickland

swerve strickland

Surprising many fans by dethroning The Young Bucks to become AEW World Tag Team Champions, Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee would make waves in 2022 as a breakout tag-team despite many finding the pairing to be a random one. The two would embark on a good reign as champions as well before losing the belts to The Acclaimed in one of the more compelling tag-team feuds of the year.

Having lost the belts at Grand Slam, Keith and Swerve have been shown to be at odds on more than one occasion, and with Strickland working towards a dark path, it seems the split may be upon us. As a singles star, Swerve Strickland has some of the highest potential in AEW, with 2023 seeming like the start of what could be a career-defining run for Swerve.
