Former WWE superstars CM Punk (real name Phillip Brooks) and Daniel Bryan (real name Bryan Danielson) are reportedly headed to AEW.

Several recent reports have stated that the company is signing both of the two former WWE Champions. Tony Khan, the President and CEO of AEW, wouldn't confirm the rumors. Darby Allin teased CM Punk's arrival during this week's episode of Dynamite, further fueling the belief that AEW has landed him.

On the Mat Men Pro Wrestling Podcast (h/t WrestlingNews.co), Andrew Zarian reported that some people in WWE aren't pleased about losing Bryan to AEW. Zarian explained that they aren't "concerned" about the CM Punk signing, though he noted "a certain network is not very happy" about it:

"There’s a lot of rumors that Vince (McMahon) is very upset and management is very angry, how could they these two go? I think Daniel Bryan is the disappointment for them, CM Punk not so much. There’s no buzz that I’m hearing coming from the office side that 'we (expletive) up by not signing him.'

There’s a lot of people that think his stock is not what it normally would be. They think his UFC losses hurt him. A lot of people worked with him when he was very unhappy and I think that’s the memory that they have. I’m saying from management, I’m not the talent. I think the talent knows what a big deal this is."

CM Punk left the WWE seven and a half years ago and hasn't wrestled since. As for Bryan, his WWE contract expired following his loss to Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship on the Apr. 30 edition of Friday Night SmackDown.

This isn't surprising to hear. WWE had plenty of time to try and sign CM Punk. The two-time Money in the Bank winner revealed the condition for coming back to the company (he said "a very big bag", presumably of money). Apparently, WWE isn't even interested in working with CM Punk anyway.

But following the expiration of Bryan's contract, it was reported that WWE officials were optimistic about him returning to the company. And even though Bryan talked about wanting to work for other companies, he didn't display show any hints about possibly wanting to leave WWE.

This Changes Everything For AEW

McMahon may not view AEW as legitimate competition, but the arrivals of Punk and Bryan could very well change that.

Both Bryan and Punk were among the elite WWE superstars of the PG Era. These two longtime fan favorites carried the product as the main superstars from the Ruthless Aggression Era transitioned entirely away from the ring or in part-time roles.
