Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, and Triple H headed over to the T-Mobile Arena to catch the remainder of UFC 276 following the conclusion of WWE's Money In The Bank premium live event ... and they brought Pat McAfee with them. He was a little worse for wear. When Money In The Bank went off the air, McAfee (who had been providing color commentary during the evening's SmackDown matches, as well as the cross-promotional main event) was ambushed from behind by Baron Corbin. Corbin delivered a brutal beatdown to McAfee and then responded to the SummerSlam challenge his fellow former NFL player issued on the June 24 edition of SmackDown. Corbin said yes.
As a result of the attack, McAfee was sporting a neck brace as he sat alongside his WWE superiors at UFC 276. Kayfabe is alive.
The beef between Corbin and McAfee began a few weeks back when Corbin lashed out at McAfee's following the former's defeat at the hands of Madcap Moss in a Last Laugh match. Corbin accused McAfee of making fun of him on commentary every week, and McAfee encouraged the WWE Universe to laugh Corbin out of the building ... which it did.
McAfee became SmackDown's color commentator back in April 2021 following a brief but successful stint in NXT where he served as a broadcaster and an in-ring talent. McAfee made his in-ring debut against Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver: XXX. McAfee lost that match but earned a lot of plaudits in the process. McAfee and Cole shared a ring once again at WWE NXT TakeOver: WarGames IV. On that show, The Undisputed ERA (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Kyle O'Reilly & Roderick Strong) defeated McAfee and his cronies Danny Burch Oney Lorcan, & Pete Dunne in a thrilling WarGames main event.
At WrestleMania earlier this year, McAfee defeated Theory before losing an impromptu match to Mr. McMahon.
