Carmelo Anthony Buys New Soccer Team

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

Carmelo Anthony has been named as a surprise owner for a brand new North American Soccer League (NASL) franchise. The Puerto Rico Islanders will be coming into the second-tier competition from 2018 onwards with Minnesota United. According to The Guardian, former AC Milan great Paolo Maldini will also be joining the league in a part-ownership role but the news about current New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony will surprise many. The hope is that the new team will give soccer players around North America and particularly the Caribbean a chance to show what they have and with Melo on board, people should be watching.
