As soon as you become famous, whether that is through sports, acting, singing, or any other means, the general public instantly become incredibly interested in what is happening in all aspects of your life. One of the areas that people always seem to need to know about is who famous people are dating, and NBA stars are victims of that as well. Gossip magazines will share the information and fans will hunt it down on social media and immediately judge who they have chosen for a partner. While the expectation is that every rich NBA star will immediately find some super model girlfriend, some examples exist of players who seem to be genuinely in love with regular everyday people.
Given that top NBA players are some of the best-paid athletes in the entire world, most people expect to become even more jealous of them after one look at their beautiful girlfriend or spouse. That certainly is the case more often than not, with many less than handsome NBA stars managing to land incredibly beautiful partners. Whether its due to the riches and fame or the fact they are just nice people is unknown.
However, some of their partner choices will surprise you and that is why this list will look at 10 NBA players who are dating well out of their league, and 10 who could have done better.
20 Out Of Their League: DeMarre Carroll
He might not be one of the greatest NBA players and he isn't one of the best looking in the sport either, but he does boast the finances of an NBA player, something that certainly attracts some of the worlds most beautiful women.
When he originally joined the Toronto Raptors, he was given a $60 million deal over the course of four years, something that is certainly going to bring him some attention given the things he can buy and the places he can take a potential partner. Luckily for DeMarre Carroll, one area that he did get things right is in his love life, with a gorgeous wife, Iesha Carroll, who clearly saw something in the NBA player, who certainly loves to dress in a fancy way, which may have wooed her in.
19 Could Have Done Better: Russell Westbrook
Russell Westbrook loves to live a flashy lifestyle, something that you would expect from your typical NBA player with the money he is earning. His style of play is about as unique as his fashion sense, so you would expect him to have a flashy model on his arm.
But, that isn't the case for Russell, his partner is a good looking lady but not one of the hottest WAG's in the NBA, and given how he tends to act you would likely be surprised by the choice. But, this is why you don't judge a book by its cover people. The couple has a baby together and her Instagram is a clear sign that they are both very happy together and that she shares his love of fashion, which may be the common interest.
18 Out Of Their League: Al Horford
Al Horford struck gold when he married Amelia Vega, one of the worlds most beautiful women who has a trio of skills to bring in her own success and finance to balance Horford's NBA wage. His wife is a triple threat in the sense that she can sing, act and model and has even won titles for her modelling work, including becoming Miss Dominican Republic in 2002 and even winning the coveted Miss Universe prize in 2003, which should tell you everything you need to know about her.
Horford certainly has skill in his chosen sport as one of the NBA's most versatile big men and is a threat every year for an All-Star spot. But despite that, there is no doubt that he is punching above his weight in his love life, well-done sir, well done.
17 Could Have Done Better: Nicolas Batum
Nicolas Batum is quite the all-rounder on the court, seemingly doing a bit of everything with the ability to score, assist and defend, he is a perfect team player in the NBA world and someone all would want on their team. When you consider that he is earning a sweet $120 million contract, you would think that the Frenchman would have the pick of the ladies, but if he did, he didn't choose the most beautiful one on the market and could've likely done better.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with his partner, but even when you compare her to his first wife it is a downgrade in the looks department. But perhaps that is one of the main issues, and as long as the marriage is working happily, it's unlikely he will complain.
16 Out Of Their League: Thabo Sefolosha
Thabo Sefolosha not only has a reputation for being one of the NBA's greatest defenders, something he has grown into ever since he was signed by the Chicago Bulls in 2006, but he seems to have transferred that skill outside the court too.
He has caused problems for some of the greatest NBA stars from LeBron James to Kevin Durant and has managed to lock down a beautiful wife for himself in the form of Bertille Sefolosha. The pair currently has two daughters together, which proves the relationship is stable and going nowhere, something he is likely to be just as proud of as his NBA career, with both being brilliant achievements.
15 Could Have Done Better: Kyle Korver
Kyle Korver has plenty of talent on the court and is one of the NBA's top stars right now, which has led to him becoming a major star and earning lots of money in the process, which always attracts people. Korver managed to find himself a wife in the American singer, Juliet Richardson, who have been married for six years now and have three children together, so are clearly living a happily married life.
While there is nothing wrong with his wife, she is a good looking lady, but the pair just looks more like brother and sister rather than a couple as they look scarily similar, which is why he could have done better.
14 Out Of Their League: Zaza Pachulia
Zaza Pachulia is arguably one of the NBA's hardest workers, always giving 110% when he is on the court for his teammates, helping the likes of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson to success and not getting quite as much praise.
However, one area where he will certainly gain plenty of praise is when you look at Pachulia's wife, who is way out of his league. Tikais Pachulia is stunning, and that is a credit that Zaza doesn't share for himself. Having three children together, Zaza has certainly done well to create a family with such a beautiful woman, despite not being one of the better looking NBA stars, but after all, it's the personality that counts, right folks?
13 Could Have Done Better: Iman Shumpert
Iman Shumpert has been around the block in the NBA, after leaving Georgia Tech as the 17th overall pick, he has played for the New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers and has made plenty of money doing so. Because he made a name for himself in the sporting world, it shouldn't be a surprise that he has found a partner who can sing, act, dance and is a model. Having written songs for major artists and worked with the likes of Pharrell and Kanye West, it's clear that Teyana Taylor is just as talented as him.
She doesn't always have the major spotlight that she does with the people she works with, but you'll have heard her voice plenty of times on the radio. While he has done very well for himself, when you compare her to other sings, you might say he could've done better.
12 Out Of Their League: Dirk Nowitzki
Dirk Nowitzki's NBA stats speak for themselves, as one of the greatest power forwards of all time, he has certainly had a career to be proud of and will go down as a legend in the sport, which could be the reason he managed to land his current wife, Jessica Olsson.
Married in 2012 and have three children together, from the outsiders perspective they look incredibly happy together, which is great to see, and there is no wonder why he always looks so happy, finding himself such a beauty. Nowitzki though, is not one of the better looking NBA players, having been known for his yellow teeth and not taking care of his own appearance, it is surprising, to say the least, that he landed such a beauty.
11 Could Have Done Better: Allen Iverson
It is very surprising to see Allen Iverson and his wife together as it is clear that Iverson could be doing better if he wanted to. Not only in the looks department could he do better, but when you consider his star power it is quite staggering that this was his decision.
Iverson is known for setting trends and being incredibly fashionable and is one of the top NBA stars of all time, which when you consider all of that, you would think he would be with some model or someone famous. Regardless, his wife has likely had to stick up for him and stand by his side during plenty of difficult times throughout his time in the spotlight, so they clearly have a strong connection together.
10 Out Of Their League: Chris Bosh
Chris Bosh might have been the butt of the jokes throughout much of his NBA career, but he certainly had the last laugh when landing his current wife, Adrienne Williams Bosh, who is a beautiful lady. He might have been mocked by guys like Shaquille O'Neal and others, he has managed to have some decent success, even if he is disrespected by the media as well, Bosh has always got on with things.
His wife is certainly out of Bosh's league and has reportedly had a bit of a wild past, with rappers such as Lil Wayne claiming that she was a groupie and slept around with some of them, but either way, Bosh has her locked down now.
9 Could Have Done Better: Dikembe Mutombo
Dikembe Mutombo was one of the tallest players in NBA history, standing at an impressive 7'2" and had a 20-year career where he averaged double-digit rebounds and the second most blocked shots in league history. He is an iconic figure in the sport and is seen as a legend by most, finding his rightful place in the Pro Basketball Hall Of Fame after his retirement in 2009. There is no doubt Mutombo will have had plenty of admirers over his career, but he has stuck alongside his wife throughout.
Despite their first engagement actually being called off, Mutombo and his wife, Rose, have been together for a very long time, working together to provide humanitarian efforts in their country of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
8 Out Of Their League: Jeremy Lin
At one point it seemed like Jeremy Lin was destined to become one of the NBA's next big megastars, but even though that didn't happen, he has still forged himself an impressive career. Living a very private life, Lin is incredibly religious and is very unlikely to be busted by some tabloid journalist for cheating on his partner and is one of the NBA's genuine good guys, which is always a bonus.
Because of his privacy, there isn't much known about his partner, other than the odd photo or a video of them cooking together, but its safe to say from the slim evidence we have, he has done very well for himself.
7 Could Have Done Better: Al Jefferson
Al Jefferson chose not to follow many of his NBA teammates in finding a famous model or actress as a partner, which might be a good decision on his behalf when you consider how they all end up, but there's no doubt he could have done better if he wanted to. During his time, Jefferson was dominant on the court, but injury problems certainly played their part in slowing him down, but that doesn't mean he didn't make an impact and earn plenty of money doing it, which would have attracted many women to him.
Even though he didn't find himself in a relationship with a model, that doesn't mean there weren't any problems. Jefferson's girlfriend was once arrested for biting his ear, of all things, but the pair managed to solve their problems.
6 Out Of Their League: DeMar DeRozan
DeMar DeRozan certainly has plenty of skill on the court, the man can ball, that is a guarantee, and when you have that much talent you are bound to attract certain people as he is a talented athlete, making great money. However, even though he looks like a star while he is playing, he doesn't have the looks of a model, battling with facial acne and not having the greatest haircut in the world, he isn't someone you would take a second glance at on the street.
However, he has managed to find himself a wife in Kiara Morrison who is certainly out of his league and has turned her into a glorified cheerleader, turning up to nearly every single game to cheer on her man.
5 Could Have Done Better: Draymond Green
Draymond Green isn't one of the NBA's greatest looking people, but when it comes to his ability on the court he is certainly one of the best out there and when you add his endorsement deals and a salary of $16.4 million he starts to become more of a package.
Green's poor looks have even managed to earn him the lovely comparisons to the donkey from the animated film, Shrek. It is a joke that Green is even aware of as he acknowledged it during a Jimmy Kimmel appearance. Despite that fame, it appears his looks may have been a major factor in finding a partner, as his girlfriend, Jelissa Hardy, is certainly not on a models level like many of his teammates.
4 Out Of Their League: Boban Marjanovic
Boban Marjanovic and his partner have at times been referred to as Beauty and the Beast, a backhanded compliment if ever there was one. There is no denying it either, Boban is a beast of a man, even if he hasn't quite lived up to the hopes many had when he transitioned from Europe to the NBA.
Struggling to make a true name for himself, he has failed to impress during his career, something which could land him back in Europe in the near future, however, it isn't all bad news for him. While he might be seen as a beast, his gorgeous wife is the beauty, another notion that people won't argue, Boban included. The pair has two sons together and were married in 2014, setting themselves up to live happily ever after.
3 Could Have Done Better: Kendrick Perkins
Kendrick Perkins and his wife, Vanity Alpough have been married since 2009, having gone through all the ups and downs that come with that, including a major bust up in 2015 when the police were forced to get involved.
After a verbal altercation between the pair took place, the couple was investigated, though no charges were ever made against either person. But it might surprise people looking at Perkins' wife, considering his success that he isn't with some model like many athletes go for. Perkins does always seem like an angry man though, on the court or off of it, his facial expression doesn't seem to alter, seemingly fixed on his face, which could be showing how he feels about his current situation.
2 Out Of Their League: Timothy Mozgov
Quite simply, how has Timothy Mozgov managed to pull this one off? He might have done some great things on the NBA court, but finding his, now wife, Alla, is perhaps his greatest achievement to date. It might be the NBA itself that has helped him with that, having a yearly income of nearly $15 million will undoubtedly see hot women swoon over you for some attention and presents, but he has managed to keep the relationship going, proving it's about more than that.
The couple has a child together and lives in Moscow during the off-season, a time Mozgov probably enjoys, being able to spend time with his greatest prize, while having men around the world question how he pulled it off.
1 Could Have Done Better: Shawn Bradley
Shawn Bradley retired from the sport in 2005 after spending 11 seasons in the NBA where he never really became the dominant force his incredible 7.6" height had billed him to potentially be. While he is a giant of a man, his wife, Annette Evertson, is no taller than 5'5", providing a huge height difference that is no doubt going to cause a problem or two from time to time, and the pair live together with their six children.
Having had six kids together, there is no doubt about it, they are more than happy, there is no other reason they would do that. But, Bradley could certainly do better if we are all being honest, especially with the bank balance he can show off to whoever catches his eye, but credit to an athlete who can be as loyal as him, having been married since 1993.
