There are plenty of top notch players in the trade rumor mill, as well as veteran free agents who are still looking for their contracts. With that being said, there clearly is plenty to look forward to and to keep an eye on. Many contenders are looking to improve their rosters, while rebuilders may be ready to trade away their top players.

20 Cavaliers Trade J.R. Smith

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

J.R. Smith’s entire career is now essentially made by the most atrocious play in NBA Finals history. Instead of shooting the ball with a few seconds left, Smith thought the game was over and dribbled down the other side of the court. Of course, the Cavs would end up losing the game in OT.

Smith really hurt his legacy with this mistake and will likely want to have a new home to redeem himself. There is no question that the Cavaliers’ fans are not very happy with his judgement and it could be enough to see a move. This should not be an issue with the Cavs rebuilding as well.

19 Timberwolves Trade Jimmy Butler

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Due to the fact that Jimmy Butler will not even discuss an extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves, it is likely that he will opt to leave them next off-season. With that being stated, Butler has been in the trade rumor mill and could end up being moved before the start of the season.

Butler and Minnesota has just not been able to make it work, so it would not be surprising if we see a blockbuster. Butler has made it clear that he wants to join a team that can win and Minnesota likely is not the place. With that being said, a trade appears to be on the horizon.

18 Kings Sign David West

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

David West must be pretty ecstatic at this present time because he was able to win a championship with the Golden State Warriors this season. However, as it stands at this present time, West is still a free agent and is looking for a new contract for next season.

The Sacramento Kings could be a great spot for the veteran because they have been known to sign veterans to keep their careers going. West is definitely in the final stages of his career, but maybe he would like to play another year of stress free basketball with the Kings and have a bigger role.

17 Grizzlies Trade Marc Gasol

Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

Marc Gasol has been in the trade rumor mill for years it feels like, so one has to assume the veteran will finally have the chance to play elsewhere. Gasol has been extremely loyal to the Grizzlies even with all of their struggles, but they should let him try to win elsewhere now.

Gasol would definitely attract a lot of teams because he is a star player to this day and definitely can compete in the postseason. The Grizzlies need to let this poor veteran have the channe to win before he gets too old and no contenders even want to let him the opportunity.

16 Chris Bosh Gets Contract

via si.com

Chris Bosh has not played in the NBA since the 2015-16 season, but he has noted that he is not retired. Bosh has hopes that he will be able to play this upcoming season because he feels healthy and ready to go. A deal has yet to happen, but it very well could before the season starts.

There are some teams who lack depth and could take a chance of Bosh for minimum salary. This is a player who was an absolute star in his prime and who won two championships. At the end of the day, if he can still play, he definitely deserves the opportunity to play in the league again.

15 Lakers Trade Lonzo Ball

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

This may come as a major shock, but it would not surprise me whatsoever if the Lakers ended up trading Lonzo Ball this off-season. Ball’s father has really hurt the reputation of Lonzo and there have been reports that LeBron James cannot stand Lavar. With that being said, a move is possible.

The Rajon Rondo signing could very well be considered for the bench, but they could trade Lonzo for a top notch veteran point guard. Although Ball does have a lot of potential to be a star, if there is drama between LeBron and him, a trade would have to happen this off-season.

14 Timberwolves Sign Nick Young

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Young is still a free agent and when looking at what he did as a starter with the Los Angeles Lakers, it is likely that there will be a team willing to give him a shot. If not as a starter, he could still be a very solid option coming off the bench to score some clutch threes.

Young and the Minnesota Timberwolves could be a very intriguing match because they are looking for depth to help with their playoff chances. Young could fit with the team nicely and be given a solid role with the team moving forward. This could be a potential steal signing.

13 Pelicans Trade Anthony Davis

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Anthony Davis is now going to be in a tough situation because of the fact that the Pelicans have lost DeMarcus Cousins to the Warriors. With that being stated, the Pelicans need to carefully decide if they want to keep their franchise star or trade him while he's still a superstar that can get them plenty of assets.

If the Pelicans are offered a huge trade before the season starts, it would not be too surprising to see Davis end up being moved. The Pelicans definitely want Davis to be their star for a long time, but they have to be practical if he ends up refusing to extend there soon.

12 Heat Trade Hassan Whiteside

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Heat are reportedly looking to start their rebuilding period and that is clear by the fact that they are currently shopping Hassan Whiteside. Whiteside is one of their best players at this current time and does possess a good amount of trade value. He is one of the best defensive players in the game so it make sense.

Trading a player like Whiteside definitely is a risky move, but at the end of the day, it could be the best option for Miami. The Heat have been stuck in the middle of the standings and have not made any progress towards being contenders again. A move appears to be imminent, so keep your eyes open for it.

11 Raptors Sign Jamal Crawford

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Jamal Crawford is a veteran who is still on the free agent market who could make a great bench player for a contending team. Crawford is still a productive player who is very versatile on the court, so he could truly end up being a diamond in the rough type of signing.

The Toronto Raptors could use another player coming off the bench, so they should look to sign the veteran to a very cheap deal. The Raptors are seriously making a push for the championship and although Crawford is not a star by any stretch of the imagination, he is a proven leader.

10 Spurs Trade Pau Gasol

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

With the San Antonio Spurs losing so many of their top players this off-season, they could be entering a rebuilding stage. One player they should look to trade before the season starts to save some money is veteran power forward, Pau Gasol. They could get a decent return for him.

Gasol is a player who still would be able to get a lot of interest around the league, especially by contenders. Although it is hard to determine where the veteran could end up via trade, there is no question that the Spurs have to be considering the real possibility of letting him go.

9 Lakers Sign Rodney Hood

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Rodney Hood is still on the open market and one has to assume that this fact is going to change very quickly. It is likely that Hood will end up on a contender next season, so why not team back up with LeBron and join the Lakers? It would make a lot of sense for both parties.

Hood is definitely a talented basketball player who deserves a contract to come off the bench. The Lakers are definitely pushing for success now with their monster LeBron signing, so it is time to build the depth pieces. Hood could be a spectacular addition to this roster.

8 Pistons Trade Andre Drummond

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

This may come as a shock, but there are definitely some signs that the Detroit Pistons could be looking to trade away Andre Drummond. There is no question that Drummond is a great player at the NBA level, but there have been some moments where the fit just is not there.

The Pistons are looking to build a new core and they showed this by the massive Blake Griffin trade this past season. Drummond would likely be able to give them the star point guard they need to add to this roster. Although tough, it appears that it could be the end of Drummond’s tenure.

7 Heat Re-Sign Dwyane Wade

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Dwyane Wade remains a free agent and it is fair to assume that every NBA fan wants to see him play another full season with the Miami Heat. Wade has stated that he would only like to play with the Heat if he returns, so we definitely need to keep an eye on this situation.

However, at the end of the day, it is very likely that Wade will end up getting another contract with Miami for next season. The Heat could use him for his leadership and for him to come off the bench. Although Miami is not going to win a title any time soon, Wade would love to stay there.

6 Knicks Trade Joakim Noah

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

There have been an abundance of rumors involving the possibility of a Joakim Noah trade out of New York. This would make a lot of sense because Noah has not been a very good addition to the team throughout his tenure and he could use a fresh start to try to turn it around.

Noah definitely does not possess much value, but the Knicks could look to deal him for someone to come off the bench. With the Knicks looking to score some pretty huge free agents next off-season, trading away Noah’s contract now would be very smart idea to make it happen.

5 Spurs Trade DeMar DeRozan

John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Raptors made a win-now move when they traded franchise player DeMar DeRozan for Kawhi Leonard. DeRozan has showed open dissatisfaction with being traded away from the team he has grown to love immensely and the trade has been negatively received by Raptors’ fans.

This may seem like a bit of a shock, but the Spurs could very well end up moving DeRozan for another big package to help with their future. DeRozan wants to win very soon and that may not be able to happen with the Spurs. With that being said, perhaps a big trade could end up occurring.

4 Timberwolves Trade Andrew Wiggins

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

The idea of trading Andrew Wiggins may be a scary one for the Minnesota Timberwolves, but it ultimately could lead to long-term success for them. This is largely because of the fact that Wiggins has been used in many different roles because of the immense depth that the team has at this current time.

Wiggins has already shown that he is a very talented basketball player and because of this, has a large amount of trade value. When seeing that he is just 23 years old, the move definitely comes with some risks. However, with him being unhappy in his current situation as well, they should trade him before the season starts with his value being so high.

3 Hawks Trade Kent Bazemore

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Kent Bazemore has been a big name in the rumor mill and that makes a plethora of sense when seeing that the Hawks are in a rebuilding mode. Bazemore does possess a decent amount of trade value, so the team should be able to get some pieces that should be able to help with their rebuild immensely.

There is no question that Bazemore would benefit from a move as well because it would allow him to have the chance to actually play competitive basketball again. With it being so open that the Hawks are shopping him, it is only a matter of time before we see the move actually come into fruition.

2 Rockets Trade Ryan Anderson

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Rockets appear to be shopping Ryan Anderson and that does make a lot of sense when looking at their depth chart. The Rockets would be wise to use his value to bring in a player who plays a different position to help with any holes. Anderson is a good player, but he simply is expendable at the same time.

The Rockets are looking to win the championship this year and it is clear that last year's roster was unable to do that. If they can get a good return for Anderson, it would be wise to make this move. It would not be shocking whatsoever to see an Anderson trade happen in the near future.

1 Cavaliers Trade Kyle Korver

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

After failing to re-sign LeBron James, it is quite apparent that the Cleveland Cavaliers are about to be going into a rebuilding period. With that being stated, it is extremely likely that many of their veterans will be traded to help with the process. Kyle Korver is a big name on that list.

There have been a number of trade rumors involving Korver and when looking at his current trade value, it makes a lot of sense. The Cavaliers would get maximum value in return for Korver if they were to trade him now, so it would not be shocking for a deal to happen soon.
