Memes are everywhere nowadays. It's almost impossible to go through a day without seeing a meme pop up somewhere on social media. Internet users are bombarded everyday with memes about various subjects including sports. In sports there is always something going on that can be made into a visual joke. In order to go viral a meme usually has to have two aspects, truth and humor. The right photo with the right caption can be seen by millions of people. Take the crying Jordan face for example, an emotional speech made by a basketball legend has been photoshopped onto thousands of visual punchlines that will live on in infamy. Social media can make some pretty odd photos pretty oddly popular.
In this article, we have collected 15 of the most infamous NBA memes from around the internet. Every NBA great and superstar of today has found themselves on the receiving end of a meme. Creators have become adept at making some pretty comical photos and captions that make us laugh. It seems these days on the web, the more savage the humor the better if you hope your meme will go viral. If you are an NBA player and find yourself in one of these photos, pat yourself on the back, you are interesting and well known enough to be made fun of in public.
As always, feel free to leave any funny comments or photos about the NBA in the comment section below, as we would love to see any other savage memes you may have.
Here are 15 NBA memes that are savage.
15 Clippers Fans Woes
The Los Angeles Clippers have been a very successful team for the past couple seasons, as they have assembled a solid big three in Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan. They have gotten a lot of flack however for their inability to make it past the second round of the playoffs, as the Clippers have never been to the Western Conference Finals since coming into the NBA. This meme is a play off of the Lion King, as it shows Simba asking his father what the Western Conference Finals are, and his dad answering 'I don't know son, we're Clippers fans'. This feeling is all too real for Clippers fans, as they really have never even gotten a taste of the Western Conference Finals let alone the NBA Finals.
14 Carmelo Disrespect
Like it or not, Carmelo Anthony is one of the greatest scorers in NBA history. While he hasn't had much success when it comes to winning, Carmelo needs to be respected due to his ability to dominate his opponents especially in the prime of his career. This meme takes a shot at Carmelo, as it depicts him with his former teammates J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert, with the caption being "Two NBA Champions...And Some Dude With A Headband." Iman and J.R. both won a championship with the Cavaliers last season, making Carmelo "just some dude with a headband" Maybe one of those "champions" will be available to Uber Carmelo to his induction ceremony into the NBA Hall of fame. Just saying.
13 NHL or NBA?
Kevin Durant is one of the greatest NBA players of all time, but his legacy recently took a big hit when he made one of the most surprising decisions in recent history when he signed with the Golden State Warriors this offseason. He and Russell Westbrook had something special they had been building for several years in OKC. This made the decision that much harder for Thunder fans to swallow. Kevin Durant is a class act and demolishes his competition on the court. Kevin has a great sense of humor and he is a lot tougher than anybody who spends their day making memes about him. But... Durant does look pretty skinny out there on the court. In this meme his legs really do look like hockey sticks and what can you say about those size 18 boats he has dangling from those sticks he calls legs. If you are an OKC fan, this meme taste a bit like sour grapes.
12 Lonzo Ball's Signature Shoe
Lonzo Ball is one of the hottest names in basketball and he has yet to be drafted onto an NBA team. His father LaVar Ball has already made headlines multiple times due to his bold predictions about his three sons Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo and their upcoming basketball careers. Interestingly enough, Lonzo the unsigned player just got his own signature shoe, the Z02. Going for the exclusive marketing technique, the BigBallerBrand company of the Ball family listed Lonzo's first shoes at $495, which is incredibly expensive considering Lonzo hasn't even stepped on an NBA court yet. This meme jabs fun at the shoe, as it shows the listing price and the guy from Pawn Stars, who moved the decimal point just a few places over giving his expert value of just $4.95. Lonzo can turn the tables on this joke by playing up to his potential, if he can't, the joke on on him. And anyone who bought the shoes.
11 Crying Jordan Logo
The Bulls didn't have a great season this year as Dwyane Wade wasn't the game changer many thought he would be for Chicago, but they did manage to make the playoffs as the 8th seed team in the East. To much surprise, the Bulls went into Boston for the first round of the playoffs and won the first two games of the series as it looked as though they might pull off a big upset against the Celtics. The Celtics, however, came back and won four games in a row against the Bulls which garnered some meme creations, this one putting the Jordan crying face as the new Bulls logo as fans of Chicago are definitely feeling like crying after they got their hopes up after the first two games and then got beat in the next four games. Bulls haters love this one. It doesn't do much for the rest of us.
10 Trash Nets
The Brooklyn Nets have been one of the worst teams in the NBA for a few years now. They don't have much talent on the team and haven't been able to acquire any draft picks due to bad trading earlier on. We just saw their monster trade with the Celtics involving Pierce and Garnett come back to haunt them with the Celtics winning the draft lottery and the first overall pick that originally belonged to Brooklyn. In this meme Spongebob looks to be trying to clean something up that is too far gone, making the comparison of the Nets franchise to a can of garbage... ouch. This one is pretty savage. I am hoping for the best for Brooklyn but as of right now it doesn't look like they are going to be much better than they were this year and this year was just plain bad. Patrick, got any ideas?
9 Chef Airball
As a Sixers fan, I remember watching this game with joy as Steph Curry missed shot after shot with T.J McConnell locking him down. The Sixers still ended up losing this game. Without Joel Embiid on the court the 76ers are a pretty sorry team this season. Even though Curry was completely cold and actually tied the worst three-point shooting game of all-time with being 0-11 from deep, the Warriors are the best team in the league and still beat Philadelphia 119-108.
Curry could very well be one of the greatest shooters of all-time, and watching him play most likely his worst game of his career was really something to see. That makes it all the more demoralizing that the Sixers still couldn't find a way to win.
The Lakers and Mavericks aren't the most talented teams in the league, but during one of their match-ups this year the Mavericks made it a mission to show they were the better team, beating the Lakers 122-73. That is one of the biggest losses in NBA history, and it looks more like a NBA2k (video) game when one player knows they are getting killed and can just quit the match like this meme suggests above. You can even see the stands emptying despite the game being in Dallas.
I bet a lot of the players on the Lakers wish they could just quit the game at this point when they are down by 44 points with about 5 minutes left. This meme could just as easily have said, "Your opponent never showed up."
Kevin Durant deciding to sign with the Warriors was one of the biggest NBA surprises in a long time. Despite a 73-win season, the Warriors still landed the biggest fish in free agency. Chip-chasing, Durant decided to join one of the greatest teams of all-time, and many were upset when he left OKC leaving Russell Westbrook in the dust. This meme seems to hint that Durant was enticed by the clown from IT, as he woos him with the lure of rings, Durant is seen slipping into the sewer to meet with Pennywise the clown. Durant is currently leading his team in their quest for another title, and we will see if Durant gets what he was looking for in the sewers. If not, then perhaps it was Pennywise's cruelest joke yet.
Everyone knows about Tom Brady and the Patriots "run in" with deflating balls and the whole deflate-gate scandal. Brady and the Patriots are currently on the top of the football world as they are fresh off their Super Bowl win a few months ago, however they found themselves in a pretty sticky situation for a few years when it was found out they were playing with deflated footballs due to Brady's alleged requests for them instead of regulation ones. This meme shows NBA legend Vince Carter holding a deflated basketball. Tom Brady is an easy punchline as you see here he is brought into the conversation in this funny meme. Tom doesn't seem to care about this, and do you blame him? Funny nonetheless.
5 Rose or Wade?
Merging faces on social media of two NBA stars is something pretty cool to see. This particular meme shows a face merge of Dwyane Wade and Derrick Rose with the caption , "Not sure if D-Rose or D-Wade...But either way he's injured." Rose and Wade have had troubles staying healthy in this late stage of their careers. The reason this internet comedian has chosen these two particular guys is the fact that they were both NBA superstars. Like all players in the later stages of their careers Derrick Rose or Dwyane Wade are showing the scars of all the battles won and lost over the last decade, and yes they were probably injured often enough to make this meme amusing. That face is kind of unnerving if you look at it long enough, I don't know who I see more.
Everyone has seen the running joke on Family Guy were Peter hurts his leg and rolls on the ground saying "ah" for way, way too long and the gag eventually gets funnier and funnier. In his first game with the team after the Cavaliers picked up Andrew Bogut he fractured his left leg in an awkward play that unfortunately ended his season. This meme draws the comparison that we have all seen this "gruesome" injury before. All jokes aside though, it's really a shame that Bogut got injured before he got a chance to be a big piece of the Cavs playoff run. Cavs fans were very hopeful to see him match up against his former team the Warriors in this years finals. He will be sadly watching from the sideline though, clutching his broken leg just like Peter.
The Knicks made a couple offseason moves last summer that had people thinking they were going to be one of the better teams in the East. They acquired Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and Courtney Lee, and Derrick Rose even said the squad was a "super-team" before they even played one game together. While they were joining the likes of Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis, this meme was spot on, as the Knicks did not get better after their off-season moves. They had a record of 31-51, which obviously showed they were no "super-team." Fans who jumped onto the Knicks bandwagon this summer thinking they were going to be a great team were sadly mistaken like this meme truthfully foretold. Meme humor is always based in the truth.
2 Ineligible Draymond
Draymond Green is one of the better players in the NBA, he is an overall sound player at all facets of the game. He can boast an NBA champion, and the people that are not huge Draymond Green fans still have much respect for his game, I know I do. This picture taken of him last year really makes him look like a high-school baller stuntin' for Instagram in his nice clothes because he is ineligible due to his grades and can't play for the team. Draymond Green is having an excellent playoff run with the Warriors this year, but this meme got it right as he really does look like a kid on game day posing for a picture because he is failing a couple classes.
Stephen Curry is one of the biggest names in basketball and has been for a few years now, and it's not unbelievable to think that his superstardom has women dreaming about "Chef-Curry." This is a prime example of that, as this photo is really something as you can see a woman in the crowd looking at Curry the way that only his wife, Ayesha Curry should be looking at him. This meme asks why Ayesha is always present at Curry's game, and scenes like the one pictured in the photo above are probably some of the big reasons why. She's probably just worried that women in the crowd will be rushing the court after her husband after he inevitably makes another big three-pointer. The only question is, how does Steph concentrate here?
