Coming out of this weekend's WWE SummerSlam event, there was speculation about a potential injury delivered to Becky Lynch during her RAW Women's Championship match. It has since come out that those worries were correct and that "The Man" did indeed suffer such a fate, though the details about its severity aren't known just yet.

Becky Lynch Completes Match Despite Shoulder Injury

Becky Lynch Vs Bianca Belair WWE SummerSlam 2022

As is being reported by FightfulSelect, Becky Lynch sustained a separated shoulder in the opening minutes of her world title bout with Bianca Belair in the opening match of WWE SummerSlam. The injury is suspected to have come from an awkward landing on Lynch's side, as theorized by the likes of Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Though Lynch was visibly in pain, she did manage to complete the match without much issue. Separated shoulders, being an injury that can have several levels of severity depending on how badly damaged the involved muscles, tendons and tissues are, can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months to recover. As such, Lynch's ability to continue the match could point towards a more mild case.

Will Becky Lynch's Injury Disrupt Plans?

Bayley Iyo Sky Dakota Kai SummerSlam

The timing of this injury could potentially throw a spanner in the works of the storyline surrounding the RAW Women's Championship. The post-match segment saw the return of Bayley since her injury, Io Shirai - now named Iyo Sky - being called up from NXT, and Dakota Kai returning after being released earlier this year. The new trio confronted Bianca Belair, who was then backed up by Lynch, with "The Man" presumably turning face in the process.

On the surface, it appeared that Lynch was being set up to be involved in the storyline of this new trio making their presence known on Monday Night RAW. Whilst an injury potentially ruling out superstars is never a good thing, there is a somewhat fortunate silver lining. With RAW reportedly set to be a 'statement show' as Triple H's first episode in total creative control, the relative clean slate allows for some adaptations to be made without too much being derailed. But, only time will tell just how long Becky Lynch will be out, and how much plans might have to be altered in her absence.
