WWE Hall of Famer Booker T doesn't think that now is the time for Roman Reigns' historic title run to end.
Tomorrow, The Tribal Chief will defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Drew McIntyre at the Clash at the Castle pay-per-view, which will run inside Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. Earlier this week, Reigns hit the milestone two-year mark as the holder of the Universal Championship.
The Tribal Chief is the slight -160 favorite to retain his championship against McIntyre at BetOnline, while The Scottish Warrior comes in as a small +120 underdog. On Monday, it was reported that there have even been creative talks about having the 37-year-old Reigns lose the championship gold.
Speaking on a new edition of The Hall of Fame with Booker T & Brad Gilmore (h/t WrestlingNews.co), Booker T explained why he doesn't think Reigns' title run should conclude at Clash at the Castle.
"It can happen in Cardiff," Booker T said. "I mean, what a story it would be for Drew McIntyre to do it in his own backyard. That would be awesome. I just think right now Roman Reigns is on another level. He’s doing some really, really, really good work. I don't think it’s time for Roman to take a step back and have to rebuild all over again. I think Roman is the strongest character we have on the roster right now."
Reigns' Universal Championship reign began at Payback 2020, when he outlasted Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt in a triple threat match. He claimed the WWE Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 38, having defeated Brock Lesnar in a "Winner Takes All" title unification match.
Reigns vs. McIntyre is one of six confirmed matches on the Clash at the Castle card. The other title bouts are Liv Morgan vs. Shayna Baszler for the SmackDown Women's Championship and Gunther vs. Sheamus for the Intercontinental Championship. The non-title matches are Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss and Asuka vs. Bayley, Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai, Edge and Rey Mysterio vs. Damian Priest and Finn Balor and Seth "Freakin" Rollins vs. Riddle.
Several Streaks On The Line For Reigns
The Tribal Chief has several impressive streaks on the line against McIntyre. Aside from retaining both title belts, he's closing in on 1,000 days since his last pinfall defeat, which happened against King Corbin at TLC 2019. Not only that, but Reigns has never actually lost a singles match to McIntyre, including house shows.
