Believe it or not, SmackDown Superstar Butch once performed under a different name. Before being called up to WWE's main roster, Butch performed on the company's developmental brand NXT as "The Bruiserweight" Pete Dunne. Pete Dunne is a boring name, and we can surely all agree that Butch is far superior, but Butch's NXT tenure was pretty successful. While plying his craft down in Orlando, Butch won the NXT Tag Team Championship with a man called Matt Riddle, who lost part of his name shortly after being called up to the main roster in 2020.

During a recent chat with his old friend Mark Andrews on the BBC's My Love Letter to Wrestling, Butch expressed his desire to work with Riddle on the main roster as the two men have some unfinished business.

Part of it is matching up with people I have some sort of history with, right? Like, Riddle would obviously be one of the main names because we never really got where we were trying to go with that,” said Butch. “You know, obviously, I was the tag champion when I had to leave because of the pandemic, and obviously he’s doing the stuff with Randy [Orton] at the minute as well. So that’s another name that would be great," he continued, adding the Viper's name to his wish list.

Butch continued to throw out names of the colleagues he'd most like to be involved in programs with at some point, mentioning veteran performers like Shunsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles in the process. But there's one dream opponent he'll likely never face.

It could never happen, right, but the obvious name, [William] Regal,” said the former NXT United Kingdom Champion. “What he’s done for all of our careers really, but specifically, you know, you see I wear the same colors when I wrestle and stuff like the impact he’s had on my career. He’s the obvious name and I think for the fans too. That’s the one I hear all the time. ‘Oh, I wish I could see that matchup. I wish I could see that matchup’. It’s got over him. And if we’re talking a more realistic option, obviously, like we said earlier, AJ Styles.”

Butch can currently be seen on SmackDown as a member of Sheamus' new stable alongside his fellow Englishman Ridge Holland and the Celtic Warrior himself.
