WWE appears to be having trouble convincing some of its Superstars to sign new deals. Bryan Danielson decided to let his contract expire so he could go compete elsewhere, and Adam Cole did the same after signing a short extension so he could tie up his loose ends in NXT. Fast forward a few months and history appears to be repeating itself in the form of Johnny Gargano.

Candice LeRae's Contract

Gargano's NXT contract reportedly comes to an end at the start of December. However, the former NXT Champion has signed a short extension so that he can compete at WarGames which takes place on December 5. If all of that is true, which it seems to be, December 5 is now the last day of Gargano's current contract, and he is yet to sign an extension.

Unlike Cole who left NXT to sign for a promotion in which his other half was already well established, Gargano's wife is currently under contract in WWE. According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Candice LeRae's current NXT contract runs until May 2022. However, since LeRae is currently off TV expecting her first baby, there's a chance her contract has been frozen and extra time will be added to the end.

LeRae's Deal Possibly Frozen

While it hasn't been confirmed that's the case for LeRae, it is what WWE tends to do for Superstars who are out with long-term injuries. Jeff Hardy's deal was longer than he realized, and it seems likely Pac had to wait longer than he thought he would to wrestle elsewhere after he competed in his last match for WWE.

Treating female Superstars expecting babies in the same way might seem unfair, but it's not beyond belief that WWE would do that. Especially when Gargano currently appears to be leaning towards letting his own deal expire so he can wrestle elsewhere. Having his pregnant wife under contract could well be used as a bargaining chip by WWE. It wouldn't be the end of the world for Gargano if he stayed as he is one of the few stars from the old NXT who continues to be featured regularly in NXT 2.0.
