Celebrities and wrestling, peanut butter and jelly, it’s all the same thing; they just go together. With pro wrestling, an actor or musician gets the chance to let loose and play to a massive crowd in unique ways that they’d never be able to do in their day jobs. WWE has been working with stars since long before the doors blew wide open at WrestleMania.

While the fans are generally happy to see celebrities interact with their favorite wrestler, it’s generally the heelish stars that are able to get a real rise out of the crowd that are the most memorable. Andy Kaufman is perhaps the most legendary example of a celebrity becoming a bad guy in the wrestling world. But he's far from the only one.

Whether or not he meant to, when Jeremy Piven inadvertently called SummerSlam “SummerFest,” he was immediately booed by the Raw crowd. The evening’s guest host was there to promote the movie The Goods with Dr. Ken. If that wasn’t bad enough, Piven turned heel in the main event and tried to help The Miz get one over on John Cena. Instead, Cena hurled Ken into his opponents and then used Piven as a weapon to fend off more bad guys.

To some of the old guard, it’s easy to boo a guy who acts like a prick and has a dynamite-looking lady on his arm. Dancer-turned-Britney Spears’ husband, Kevin Federline fits that perfectly.

While the pop princess didn’t make the trip, Federline was booed excessively on Raw, even during an era of “Cena Sucks” chants. The reality TV star challenged Cena to a match and on New Year’s Day 2007, the former dancer actually was able to best the WWE Champion.

8 Tiny Lister

The WWE tried a unique experiment in 1989. They hired an actor and tried to make him a wrestler. Actor Tiny Lister had been part of the cast of No Holds Barred as the monster Zeus hired to defeat Rip Thomas (Hulk Hogan). To help promote the movie, the WWE hired Lister to play Zeus to come in and try to defeat Hulk Hogan because he has to prove that he could beat Hogan in real life and that his loss to Rip was a work. If you’re confused thinking about that, you may have the same eye of madness that Zeus had.

7 David Arquette

David Arquette As WCW Champion Cropped

For doing what probably anyone would have done in his position, David Arquette became the scourge of the wrestling industry. Never mind that he donated his WCW earnings to the family of Brian Pillman. When he hoisted the WCW World Title high above his head, he became the single greatest reason for that company’s demise. While that isn’t true at all, it makes for a great story. When Arquette returned to wrestling several years later to “do it right,” he used his infamy to his advantage and was a massive heel on the Indy scene.

6 Morton Downey, Jr.

The main event of WrestleMania V had the tagline “The Mega Powers Explode,” but part of the undercard could have been sold as “Three Mouths Enter, Only One Leaves.” Roddy Piper made his long-awaited return to WWE for a special edition of Piper’s Pit with Brother Love and then-talk show host, Morton Downey Jr.

3 Steve McMichael

While many wrestlers have headlined a WrestleMania only to wind up in another company before the end of the year, Steve “Mongo” McMichael might be the only celebrity. The Super Bowl hero was part of Lawrence’s Taylor’s backup at WrestleMania XI. But in just a few short months, he showed up as color commentator on Nitro. Within the year, he and his friend Kevin Greene were feuding with The Horsemen. But it wouldn’t take long for Mongo to take the money, the Halliburton, and the shirt to become the newest member of the elite quartet.
