Christian Cage has been in the main event match of a PPV in WWE, AEW, and Impact Wrestling so far in 2021.

Talk of wrestling's forbidden door has died down somewhat now the novelty of AEW and Impact working together has worn off. The door is well and truly open though as those two companies continue to work with New Japan and others. Not to mention the talent going to AEW after being released by WWE over the course of the past 18 months.

Bound For Glory Makes It Three

One of the wrestlers to take advantage of almost all of the above is Christian Cage. Cage defended the Impact Title at Bound for Glory last weekend. The veteran lost the championship to Josh Alexander before Alexander then quickly lost it to Moose. That might well spell the end of Cage's involvement with Impact for now as he is still under contract with AEW.

Cage has been there long enough to have made a little bit of history, though. His match against Alexander was his third PPV main event of 2021 so far. Not only is that impressive because it's three main events in one year, but all three matches have taken place in different promotions. According to Sportskeeda, that's something that has never been done before.

It All Started At Royal Rumble

Cage kicked off the year by returning during the men's Royal Rumble match in WWE. That was technically his first match for almost seven years. Since WWE seemingly had no plans for Cage beyond that return, the surefire Hall of Famer moved on to AEW. A little more than five months after his AEW debut, Cage wrestled Kenny Omega for the AEW Title in the main event of All Out.

Whether it's a wrestling first or not, that's an incredibe feat by Cage. 2021 might well be the best year of his career to date, at least as a singles star. While it's possible a wrestler has headlined PPVs in three different companies in the same calendar year a long time ago, it seems unlikely that the WWE-AEW-Impact trifecta will ever be replicated. Then again, wrestling is so unpredicatable right now that you truly never know.
