During an opening segment on AEW Dynamite that got a lot of fans talking, reports are now surfacing that beyond the realistic-looking nature of the fight between Jon Moxley and CM Punk, Punk apparently went way off script when he called out another wrestler prior to promoting his match with the Interim Champion.

Punk opened Wednesday's Dynamite and he and Moxley cut scathing promos against each other. Lines like, "Jon Moxley is the third best guy in his own group and that seems to be a reoccurring theme in his career.” and "He's not even the first John I've beaten in Chicago". Punk even took a shot at Moxley's best friend saying, "Eddie Kingston is the second best Kingston I’ve ever shared a locker room with." That in turn got reactions from Moxley suggesting Punk only came back to AEW because he ran out of money and You ran out of fighting spirit a long time ago". The two then brawled on a couple of occasions before it was announced their match to unify the main AEW World Title would take place next week.

But, prior to all that, Punk called out Hangman Adam Page and it's not entirely clear why. He asked Hangman for a rematch and then called him a coward for not coming out to take his opportunity. Of course, Hangman and Punk weren't scheduled to have an altercation and Dave Meltzer notes during his most recent Wrestling Observer News podcast that Punk did that and no one knew he was going to. Meltzer explained, “CM Punk thing at the start of the show with Adam Page. That was weird, for everyone — nobody knew he was going to do that If you remember months ago when they were feuding and I said there was a lot of reality to it – well, there's a lot of reality to it”

Showing how little anyone expected the Punk remarks, Page's running mate in Dark Order, John Silver, posted a photo of Hangman Page backstage at AEW and wrote, "Hangman is a little busy now." Page was eating catering.

Why Would Punk Do That?

The deal here is that it sounds like Punk has taken a real issue with Hangman's promo from just before their match where Punk won the title. During that promo, Page insinuated that Punk was not champion material and treated the people in the AEW locker room quite poorly. And, if that's true, it could explain why Punk went off script and took a shot at Page before he got down to the business of trying to promote his feud with Moxley.

One thing Bryan Alvarez added was that this had nothing to do with promoting the All Out pay-per-view for after next week's unification match and said, Punk "went into business for himself".
