CM Punk has the wrestling world buzzing after a mysterious post on his Instagram story.

On Wednesday, "The Voice of the Voiceless" posted an old photo from himself with WWE on his Instagram story. You can view a screenshot of his story post below:

It's been a little over three months now since we've seen CM Punk in AEW. The former World Champion is recovering from surgery to repair a torn triceps that he suffered in his match with Jon Moxley at AEW All Out on Sept. 6. Punk was suspended by the company after the bout for his involvement in a physical altercation that also included Kenny Omega, Ace Steel and The young Bucks.

Though nothing has been confirmed, it is widely assumed that CM Punk is done with AEW. Back in October, it was reported that the company was negotiating on buying out the remainder of his deal, but there hasn't been an update on that front.

CM Punk made his final appearance for WWE at the Royal Rumble 2014 pay-per-view. The match was won by future Hall of Fame inductee Batista, but that wasn't even the biggest story by the time the post-Royal Rumble edition of Raw commenced. Before the show aired, CM Punk apparently told Vince McMahon and Triple H that he was heading home.

WWE officially fired CM Punk from his contract a few months later. It's been suggested in the past that Vince refused to work with CM Punk again, but the former retired from WWE in July. With a new leadership team in the fold, perhaps the door is open for the all-time great to make the improbable return.

If CM Punk Is Willing, WWE Should Bring Him Back

The WWE product has been a lot better under Triple H, Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan. But withotu a doubt, the company would greatly benefit from reuniting a marquee star like CM Punk. There's still too much left to be told in his pro wrestling career, and WWE has the chance to one-up the rival AEW competition. If CM Punk gets out of his contract with AEW, Triple H shouldn't waste much time in giving him a call to see if there's interest in a reunion.
