Two weeks ago, WWE gave a nine-month recovery timeline for Cody Rhodes, who is out of action long-term as he continues to recovery from a torn pectoral.

Rhodes underwent successful surgery on the torn pectoral following his HIAC match with Seth Rollins on June 5. After the procedure, WWE announced in a statement that the 36-year-old will be out of action for nine months. If that time frame is correct, Rhodes will hopefully be back just in time for WrestleMania 39 weekend (Apr. 1-2 weekend at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California).

But on Wednesday, Rhodes posted a message on his Instagram story (h/t Ringside News) — where he stressed his determination to beat the nine-month time frame and come back under his own plan.

"I’ve heard 9 months, that’s their plan…I’ve never concerned myself with other peoples projections – I’ve got a plan of my own – let’s finish, all of us," Rhodes wrote.

There's certainly a chance that Rhodes recovers and returns to action before the nine-month timeline. Keep in mind that John Cena suffered the same injury in Oct. 2007, and there was fear that he could miss up to a year of action. The WWE legend defied the odds and returned less than four months later at Royal Rumble 2008.

Cody and Brandi Rhodes left AEW in February following the expiration of their respective contracts. Aside from wrestling, Cody was also employed as an Executive Vice President in AEW. Brandi worked as the Chief Brand Officer and wrestled several matches during her AEW tenure.

Many wrestling fans and prognosticators assumed that The American Nightmare would join WWE following his AEW departure. And sure enough, Rhodes was revealed to be Rollins' mystery opponent for WrestleMania 38. This would be the first match of their trilogy, with Rhodes emerging victorious in all three pay-per-view bouts.

Cody's Return Will Be Epic

We'll just have to wait and see how his recocvery goes, and how things play out. But regardless of where and when, Cody's return promises to be a can't-miss WWE moment. He was in the midst of a special run before his injury, but better things certainly lie ahead for him.
