Colt Cabana returned to AEW Dynamite for the first time in almost a year this week. That has sparked conversations for a number of different reasons. Most notably the timing of Cabana's return. It's noteworthy, at the very least, that Cabana competed on Dynamite for the first time since Thanksgiving 2021 in the midst of reports CM Punk is about to officially leave the company.

WWE Takes Notice

Despite reports since Cabana's return that he won't be back on AEW TV full-time, apparently his appearance this week got the attention of certain people at WWE. The day after Dynamite, WrestleVotes tweeted Cabana's reappearance in the promotion “didn't go unnoticed” by WWE. No indication as to what exactly is meant by that, but it is likely a link to the future of Punk.

If Punk's days in AEW really are numbered, and reports that the promotion is in the process of buying out his contract are true, WWE may well be interested in bringing him back in. There have been mixed reports in that regard, as even though there has been a change in regime in WWE since Punk walked out of the company in 2014, it's not as if he and the man now in charge of creative saw eye-to-eye back then.

Why Triple H Might Be Interested

However, there are a couple of reasons why fans are of the belief Triple H would be willing to look past that. For starters, The Game is always interested in what is best for WWE, but even moreso in his new position. Bringing Punk back would get people watching and talking if nothing else. It's also worth noting Triple H was often the man responsible for mending burned bridges between Vince McMahon and people he fell out with, such as Ultimate Warrior and Bruno Sammartino.

WWE taking note of Cabana's TV return might mean it is about to up its game when it comes to convincing Punk to jump ship. Prior to the All Out drama, some were of the belief Cabana's absence was the doing of the two-time AEW Champion. Tony Khan has since denied that was the case. There have also been conflicting reports regarding what Punk wants to do next. Some believe he's done with wrestling, while others claim he still has the bug and will want to compete elsewhere.
