Docuseries Dark Side of the Ring has been covering controversial topics from wrestling's past since 2019. Deathmatch wrestling with Nick Gage, the death of Owen Hart, and even the double murder-suicide that took place at the hands of Chris Benoit have been covered during its first three seasons. However, there's a chance the show doesn't return for a season four.

Will There Be A Season Four?

That's according to Dave Metlzer who revealed during a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that Vice is yet to pick up Dark Side for another season. “I’ve not heard of them doing another season. The ratings were down for this season,” Meltzer said. “It’s just up to Vice essentially greenlighting another season. But, I have not heard anything about another season.”

Meltzer did also point out that if Vice does decide to leave Dark Side be and not renew it for a fourth season, it won't be the fault of Jim Ross. JR, who has featured in episodes throughout Dark Side's run, previously spoke out about his dislike of the way the show is edited. The veteran announcer said he will watch the show if there are more episodes, but he won't be a part of it moving forward.

A New Season Might Take A While

As Meltzer highlights, while JR's involvement adds credibility to anything in the wrestling business, it is not integral to the continuation of Dark Side of the Ring. Plenty of people have turned down the chance to be a part of the show in the past, usually because they don't want to discuss the topic they have been invited to talk about, at least not in as public a setting as a TV show that is shown internationally.

The third season of Dark Side of the Ring was the longest yet. So long, in fact, that it was split into two parts and shown over different periods of 2021. There has been one season per year of Dark Side since 2019, but that doesn't mean the show is over if it doesn't get a fourth season in 2022. Each season has been longer than the last, which means if there is going to be a season four, it will take the team behind the show longer to put it together.
