From the moment he was introduced in WWE, everything Dominik Mysterio has done is with his father, but now it is time to turn against him and go on his own.

Dominik Needs To Prove Himself

While everything that Dominik has done so far has been entertaining, it has all been very reliant on his father, Rey Mysterio. From bringing him in during the rivalry with Brock Lesnar, to Dominik's involvement with Seth Rollins and Murphy, they have been together through it all.

To WWE's credit, it has worked perfectly, and the father/son dynamic has been enjoyable to see play out. However, they have achieved the dream tag team run together by holding the SmackDown Tag Team Championships, and now it is time for them to split.

Rey and Dominik Mysterio celebrate

Dominik has learned the ropes and it is clear he is a talented performer, so why not let him off the leash and allow him to go ahead and thrive on his own? WWE has tried to make him a singles star, but even in the storyline, it is Rey holding him back, constantly being by his side as he doesn't see Dominik as his own man yet.

It is an engaging story because it's something a lot of fathers can likely connect with, but the problem is that the message WWE is pushing makes fans feel like Dominik needs Rey as well. People don't believe he can go on his own, and WWE needs to distance the two of them in order to squash that theory so Dominik can reach his potential.

A Heel Turn Distances Dominik From Rey

Some people might argue that Dominik doesn't need to turn heel to thrive alone, as Rey has been a babyface his entire career and always managed to be a star. However, there is one major difference between the two men and that is their height.

The reason why Rey is a believable babyface is that he is a true underdog, which comes naturally with the fact that he is smaller than 99% of his opponents. On the other hand, Dominik doesn't have that problem, as he is tall and therefore being a consistent babyface isn't as natural for him.

While he does work as a babyface and he could easily return to that down the line because of his family name, a heel turn would be something fresh that distances him from what Rey has done throughout his career.

Dominik has a long history with Eddie Guerrero who was brilliant at playing both, and most wrestlers who have huge success can do that, which is why Dominik now needs to prove his ability in that manner as well.

Claiming Rey's Mask Would Make For An Effective Turn

The best way for Dominik to turn heel would be to create the ultimate sin against Rey Mysterio, and that is to unmask him. This would gain nuclear heat on Dominik as he knows better than anybody how much his father has worked for the mask and fought for it throughout his life.

While others have taken Rey's mask off in the past, Dominik's needs to be a permanent situation, where his father cannot wear it again. This would be the way to make the heat truly stick and for it to not just be seen as a token gesture, but ensuring it would have meaning and purpose.

It could easily make Dominik one of the biggest heels in the company and if the story was done right, it could take him to the next level. He has spoken about wanting to carry the legacy of the mask into the future, and ripping it from his father, rather than waiting for it to be handed could do that.
