If Drew McIntyre gets his way, the 36-year-old superstar won't have to wait long to return to the WWE main event scene.

McIntyre is scheduled to face Happy Corbin in a singles match at day one of WrestleMania 38. The former defeated Corbin's ally, Madcap Moss, at the Day 1 and Elimination Chamber pay-per-views. WrestleMania will presumably mark the end of McIntyre's feud with Moss and Corbin.

The second night of WrestleMania 38 will be headlined by the Roman Reigns-Brock Lesnar "Winner Takes All" unified title match. The winner of the main event will become the lone World Champion in WWE for the time being. It should be noted that the single world title belt is reportedly only temporary, and both Raw and SmackDown will eventually each have the major championship belt.

During an interview with Hindustan Times, McIntyre made it clear that he'll be going after the winner of the Reigns-Lesnar match.

"I'll start from the bottom, I'll fight everybody and work my way up," McIntyre said. "At this stage of my career, I understand that I don't need it all now. I've just been building my victories, waiting for my moment. We've got this huge match with Roman vs Brock, title vs title at WrestleMania, I can assure I've got my eyes on who's gonna win that match, because I'm coming for him."

McIntyre's rise to main event status began at the 2020 Royal Rumble pay-per-view. He earned a massive pop from the crowd after eliminating Lesnar in the men's Royal Rumble match. McIntyre last eliminated Reigns, and he went on to dethrone Lesnar as the WWE Champion to close out day two of WrestleMania 36.

Reigns and McIntyre headlined Survivor Series 2020, facing off in a champion vs. champion match. The former went on to defeat the then-WWE Champion in what turned out to be one of the top matches of the year.

McIntyre Is Overdue For Another Main Even Push

Reigns and Lesnar have been feuding since the latter returned to WWE programming at SummerSlam 2021. That was almost eight months ago now, so after WrestleMania, WWE simply needs to move in another direction.

McIntyre has all the makings to be a perennial main event star, but WWE has used him in the mid-card scene during the Lesnar-Reigns rivalry. Regardless of who wins that match on Sunday, McIntyre should be next in line to challenge for the world title. He has paid his dues and deserves another major push.
