El Hijo del Vikingo is the new AAA Mega Champion! The 24-year-old Mexican was crowned following his victory in the main event of TripleMania Regia 2021, which also featured AEW stars Jay Lethal and Bobby Fish, former WWE Superstar Samuray del Sol (Kalisto), and Bandido, the Ring Of Honor World Champion.

The five-way match was absolutely wild, and Vikingo fully deserved his victory. He jumped, dived, and flew all over the place in what was a memorable star-making performance that will almost certainly catch the eye of every booker in the world. The match came to an end when Vikingo hit Samuray del Sol with an awesome splash from the top rope.

After the bell, Vikingo celebrated with his fellow luchadors as he was presented with the title, which was vacated by AEW star Kenny Omega just a few days ago.

Later on, former WWE Superstar Killer Kross took to social media to tease a potential match with the new champ.

Kenny Omega was originally scheduled to defend the title against Vikingo in the TripleMania main event, but AAA's Dorian Roldan took to social media on Monday, November 22 to announce that Omega was vacating the AAA Mega Championship in order to undergo multiple surgeries on various injuries and ailments. As we reported, Omega has been wrestling for some time with a shoulder injury and recently revealed that he has been suffering regular bouts of vertigo during his matches since 2018.

Omega became AAA Mega Champion when he defeated his AEW colleague Rey Fenix on October 19, 2019 at AAA's Heroes Inmortales 13 event in the Coliseo La Concordia in Orizaba, Veracruz, Mexico. Despite being champ for over two years, Omega only defended the title five times, most recently against Andrade El Idolo TripleMania 29 back in August.
