Athletes are commonly known for contributing to their teams and helping them win championships. They put in copious amounts of time, energy and effort each week to be the very best they can be. They often train hard with the help of their coaching staffs. As a unit, they go through the drills to make sure they're doing everything right. They earn tons of money from the hard work they complete most days.

There's no surprise that quite a few athletes like to spend their cash on fancy cars, large homes and luxurious yachts. After all, most of them have a disposable income so they're free to do whatever they want after paying their bills and taxes. Yet, some athletes intentionally (or unintentionally) decide to have multiple children-sometimes with multiple baby mamas (gasp!). They could have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven or maybe even more than that. It's the personal decision of the athlete, but they unfortunately have to deal with a lot of kids, and sometimes baby mamas, when Thanksgiving and Christmas comes around the corner.

Why do some athletes have so many children? Perhaps it's because of religious reasons (the Catholic church condemns birth control). Perhaps it's simply an educational consequence of their unplanned actions. Whatever the reason may be, it's not everyday you notice an athlete who has a large family. It's indeed an unusual sight to see, but it does happen. That's life for you.

Here are 15 athletes who have more kids than rings.

15 15. Karl Malone: 7 Kids, 0 Rings

Karl Malone has the nickname "The Mailman" for a reason. He always delivered and with him having seven kids by several different women, apparently he always delivered in other areas too. Malone played for the Utah Jazz for many years and wile they were the best years in the franchise's history, he and John Stockton couldn't overcome Michael Jordan in two NBA Finals.

Some of Malone's kids have said they have no interest in meeting their father and forming a relationship with him. Malone had several of his children when he was still very young and one alleged son of his, Demetress Bell, claimed Malone wants nothing to do with him. If that is true, it's very sad and disappointing to hear that an NBA legend would do that.

14 14. Philip Rivers: 8 Kids, 0 Rings

Let's start with the obvious. Philip Rivers is a quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers (formerly San Diego). Rivers has played in the NFL since 2004 after signing a six-year, $40.5 million contract with the Chargers. He played college football at North Carolina State University.

Rivers became the Chargers starting quarterback after Drew Brees went to the New Orleans Saints in 2006. Rivers didn't disappoint in San Diego as he led the team to an incredible 14-2 record in his first season. He helped the team win their first postseason game since the 1994 AFC Championship Game as they defeated the Tennessee Titans 17-6 in the AFC wild-card round the following year.

Rivers also defines relationship goals. He's been married to none other than his middle school sweetheart Tiffany since 2001. Despite not having a single ring, he has eight kids with the same wife. We're not sure if you'd want as many kids as them though.

13 13. Scott Skiles: 6 Kids, 0 Rings

Scott Skiles played for the Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers, Orlando Magic, Washington Bullets, and Philadelphia 76ers in his 10-year NBA career. Despite having a lengthy tenure, Skiles never made an All-Star team nor did he capture a ring. Though, he won the league's best player award in 1991.

Yet, Skiles found other ways to produce as he fathered six children with four baby mamas. He wasn't much of a baller on the court, but he was a big poppa off the court. At least he has the money to cover the cost of child support payments. He worked his way up in the coaching world following his retirement in the late 1990s. He served as a coach for PAOK Thessaloniki, Phoenix Suns, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks, and Orlando Magic. He hasn't held down a coaching gig since 2016 so maybe he should look for some work...or maybe he should spend time with his kids.

12 12. Kenny Anderson: 7 Kids, 0 Rings

Although Kenny Anderson never seized a ring, he had himself a solid NBA career. He played as a point guard for the New Jersey Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers, Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, New Orleans Hornets, Indiana Pacers, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers and Žalgiris Kaunas. He was originally drafted by the Nets with the second overall pick in the 1991 NBA draft.

It has been reported that Anderson didn't know who his father was until his 30s. He reportedly worked hard to become a good father to his seven kids with five different women. He also has an eighth kid through a previous marriage. Despite earning a total of $63 million during a 14-year career, he filed for bankruptcy in 2005—just a year after getting married to his third wife. He dealt with various issues in his career and beyond, which isn't something that anyone wants to hear about.

11 11. Shawn Kemp: 7 Kids, 0 Rings

Shawn Kemp has quite the resume as he put 14 NBA seasons in the books. He played for the Seattle SuperSonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers and Orlando Magic. He was a six-time NBA All-Star. He was also a three-time All-NBA Second Team member.

Kemp was a consistent power forward who often played with point guard Gary Payton, but things changed after 2000. He announced his retirement in 2002. He attempted to make a comeback in the NBA, but it was unsuccessful. He spent one year with the Premiata Montegranaro of the Italian League before filing for bankruptcy. He lost a lot of money by having at least seven kids with six different women.

Kemp owned a sports bar named Oskar's Kitchen in Seattle, Washington, but that business closed as well. Not much is know about his whereabouts today, but we do know he owes large sums of money in child support payments.

10 10. Patrick Marleau: 4 Kids, 0 Rings

Surprise! We bet you didn't see this coming.

Patrick Marleau still plays in the NHL, but he hasn't won a Stanley Cup yet. He began his professional career with the San Jose Sharks after being selected with the second overall pick in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He played in San Jose (and saw the arena go through four different name changes: San Jose Arena, Compaq Center, HP Pavilion, SAP Center) from 1997 to 2017. He served as the Sharks captain from 2004 to 2009. He signed a three-year, $18.75M contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs in July 2017.

Marleau didn't have the crazy story of having several baby mamas and fathering kids with them, but he does have four sons with his wife Christina Alvernaz. Those sons are under good contracts, but when they're older, they're going to ask their dad about how many championships he has won during his career.

9 9. Drew Brees: 4 Kids, 1 Ring

We bet you didn't see this coming either.

Again, not a crazy story because Drew Brees was raised as a Christian, wrote a book called Coming Back Stronger: Unleashing the Hidden Power of Adversity and ended up marrying his high school sweetheart Brittany Dudchenko in 2003.They have three sons named Baylen, Bowen and Callen along with a daughter named Rylen. He has played for the New Orleans Saints since 2006. From there, he led all quarterbacks in touchdowns, passing yards, 300-yard games and has passed for over 5,000 yards five times in a single season five times. He also had a lot of notable accomplishments. He began his NFL career with the San Diego Chargers from 2001 and 2005.

Without a doubt, Brees is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He's a generous man on and off the field. He does charity work in his spare time. It's just that he has four kids and only one ring, which can be hard to deal with sometimes.

8 8. Terrell Owens: 4 Kids, 0 Rings

Terrell Owens infamously went on an episode of Dr. Phil with three of his baby mommas after the mothers complained that Owens was falling behind on child support payments. Owens pleaded his case that due to not receiving an NFL paycheck, he couldn't afford to pay all the mothers like he could when he was an active player. As for his career, his stats indicate that Terrell Owens is clearly a hall of famer. While he wasn't a media darling, which may have prevented him from being a first ballot HOFer, but Owens was undoubtedly one of the best receivers of all time.

As for his stats off the field, Owens has four kids from three different women, the same ones you saw on that episode of Dr. Phil about four years ago.

7 7. Royce White: 5 Kids, 0 Rings

Remember power forward Royce White? He was a high school basketball star who committed to play for the Minnesota Golden Gophers men's basketball team before making the decision to transfer to Iowa State. He was highly regarded, which led to the Houston Rockets selecting him with the 16th overall pick in the first round of the 2012 NBA draft. He made more headlines focusing on mental illness due to his personal issues that affected his performance on and off the court.

White was pretty much a bust as he was unable to hold down a job with any NBA team. In 2016, he signed with the London Lightning of the National Basketball League of Canada. In 2017, he was named NBL Canada's regular season MVP after posting 34 points, 15 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the Lightning to their third NBL Canada Championship.

White had no shame in his game as he's a father to five kids from four different mothers.

6 6. Peja Stojakovic: 5 Kids, 0 Rings

Peja Stojakovic is a Croatian executive and former NBA player of Serbian descent. He fled to Belgrade at the beginning of the Yugoslav wars. At the young age of 15, he won a national championship with the KK Crvena zvezda of the Adriatic Basketball Association (ABA). A year later, he moved to Greece to play for PAOK B.C. of the Greek League. He was then selected by the Sacramento Kings with the 14th overall pick in the first round of the 1996 NBA draft. He played for the Kings from 1998 to 2006.

Stojakovic was an effective three-pointer shooter who possessed the ability to shoot from all defenses from all areas of the floor. Unlike other players on this list, he was able to win a championship in his final season with the Dallas Mavericks. Having said that, his personal life off the court was fascinating as he has three to five kids from an unknown number of women.

5 5. Tracy McGrady: 4 Kids, 0 Rings

Tracy McGrady was able to multitask in the NBA as he played both shooting guard and small forward from 1997 to 2013. He's a seven-time NBA All-Star, seven-time All-NBA selection and two-time NBA scoring champion. He also won the NBA Most Improved Player Award. He enjoyed a lengthy career. While making an appearance on ESPN's First Take, he confirmed his retirement on August 26, 2013. He currently serves as a special assistant to the CEO of the Orlando Magic.

McGrady has four kids but never managed to win an NBA championship. In fact, about 10 years ago, one of McGrady's baby mommas came after him with a paternity suit, which resulted in McGrady having to pay her $54,000 a year in child support payments.

4 4. Adrian Peterson: 6 Kids, 0 Rings

After finishing his college football career as the Oklahoma Sooners' third all-time leading rusher, Adrian Peterson was selected by the Minnesota Vikings with the first overall pick in the seventh round of the 2007 NFL draft. He played with the Vikings from 2007 to 2016. This year, he briefly played with the Saints before heading to the Arizona Cardinals through a trade for a conditional sixth round draft pick.

So far in his career, Peterson has been a seven-time Pro Bowl member, four-time First-Time member and three-time Second-Time member. He also won the NFL MVP award in 2012. All this success, but no championship ring yet. But he made himself a huge family as he fathered at least six children with an undisclosed number of baby mamas. The sad part is that his then-two-year-old son died in 2013 due to injuries from an assault committed by the new boyfriend of one of those baby mamas.

Not only that, the NFL suspended Peterson after a child abuse case in 2014. He eventually agreed to a plea agreement with a Texas court in order to avoid a jail sentence, but ended up becoming a public outcast.

3 3. Dwight Howard: 8 Kids, 0 Rings

There's quite a story behind Charlotte Hornets center Dwight Howard, who has an athletic body along with God-given abilities. He was selected by the Magic with the first overall pick in the first round of the 2004 NBA draft. He played with the Magic from 2004 to 2012, Lakers from 2012 to 2013, Rockets from 2013 to 2016 and Hawks from 2016 to 2017. He currently plays with the Hornets.

Howard has the drive to succeed as he's an eight-time NBA All-Star, eight-time All-NBA team member, five-time NBA All-Defensive member, and three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year. He hasn't added a championship to his impressive resume though. Despite that, he has the drive to engage in wild activities and that's how he became the father of eight kids from eight different women. That might explain why he struggles to commit to a single team for a long period of time.

2 2. Willis McGahee: 10 Kids (Alleged), 0 Rings

Perhaps Willis McGahee was just extremely bored playing in Buffalo, because in his first two seasons with the team, McGahee had already fathered three kids. The former Miami Hurricane standout would continue that pattern in the NFL and he finished his career having fathered 10 different children from eight different women.

His 10th child is alleged to have been with girlfriend Marshevet Hooker, a track and field star, as reported by Complex back in 2014. While it's a joyous occasion to have a child, with 10 different children and having played in several cities, you have to wonder how much time McGahee has gotten to really get to know all his kids.

McGahee played for the Bills, Ravens, Broncos and Browns and missed out on adding a ring for his solid NFL career.

1 1. Antonio Cromartie: 14 Kids, 0 Rings

Antonio Cromartie belongs on the top of this list because he pays more in child support than the average person makes in a year. He has five kids with his wife, Terricka Cason, and nine additional tots with seven baby mamas. Talk about a large family!

Antonio's the cousin of current NFL cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, so football definitely runs in the family. He's currently a free agent, but he has most recently played for the Indianapolis Colts in 2016. He spent a total of 11 seasons in the league. He was originally drafted by the Chargers with the 19th overall pick in the first round of the 2006 draft. He was credited with the longest play in league history after returning a missed field goal 109 yards for a touchdown in 2007. In spite of his success in the form of numerous titles, he hasn't earned a ring yet.

Anyway, it's still hard to believe Antonio continued to have kids even after getting a vasectomy. Life works in the most mysterious ways.
