15 Athletes With Surprising Confessions From Behind Closed Doors

The world of sports is full of salacious stories. There's loads of money to go around, a horde of groupies hanging about, and plenty of players who are up for a round. There so many reports about the extracurricular activities that athletes have taken part in that people are rarely surprised nowadays. However, this depends on the content of the story as some tales have gone on to become legendary, earning the same status for the involved parties. Some tales are discovered by the media while others are told by those who were privy to the incident. Nothing however, beats the ones told by the athletes themselves.

Some athletes choose not to talk while still active as it may lead to a lot of backlash and may end up affecting their careers or their relationships with teammates/managers. Autobiographies are usually the most common channels used by retired athletes to reveal their wild stories. It's a win-win situation whereby the readers get entertained and the author benefits from the book sales. Others share their stories during interviews and there's always a brave one or two who don't mind confessing their actions while still active. In the end, all that matters is just how crazy the story is. The following are 20 athletes and their revelations.

Having played for the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees, Darryl Strawberry amassed four World Series titles and eight All-Star selections. He also managed to hit at least 25 home runs in each of his first nine MLB seasons. He ended up sabotaging his career due to his substance abuse, which earned him a couple of suspensions.

When a documentary focusing on his and former teammate Dwight Gooden's careers was aired, he appeared on a radio show to promote it. On the show, he revealed that during games, he used to pick women out of the crowd, then send the clubhouse attendant to pick them up. He would then proceed to have hook up with them in the clubhouse between innings. Strawberry, who became an ordained Christian minister, said that he has since turned over a new leaf.

While on a promotional tour for his bestselling book "House of Nails" last year, Dykstra appeared on The Howard Stern Show, where he went on to talk about his sexual prowess. He said, "I thought God put me on earth to entertain people on the baseball field...but He actually put me on earth to get women off,". He claimed that he was like Picasso and described his skills as artwork. Apparently, the baseball field was a much preferred site as he would recruit a bat boy to scout a location for him and whichever willing lady he would find. He also admitted to getting cash in exchange for going on romantic dates with older women who wanted companionship.

Despite describing one of them (who was in her 80s) as being quite persistent, he said that he didn't like going all the way with old women. Having blown his own trumpet, Dykstra returned to the show months later with two women who were all too willing to confirm his claims while giving vivid descriptions. One of them who was a lesbian, praised him, claiming that she gave her girlfriends tips based on her experience with Dykstra.

via theshaderoom.com

The former NBA star was well known for his eccentricities and was nicknamed 'The Worm'. He was also known for his sexual escapades including one time when he took six women back to his hotel room, forgot to turn off the microphone in his pocket, and proceeded to share his experience with a number of partygoers. Last year, Rodman decided to share one of his most outrageous tales to date. He revealed that he had managed to break his 'equipment' on three separate occasions. All three cases involved him and his partner getting a little too adventurous.

Rodman didn't spare anyone the gory details either. Apparently, after his girlfriend took him to the hospital following an incident, she received a call from a nurse the following day, asking for $25,000 in exchange for Rodman's X-ray pictures.

A top scorer during his NBA career, Chamberlain caused quite a stir when he revealed in his autobiography titled, 'A View From Above', that he had slept with 20,000 women. A series of onslaughts were unleashed on him. It was a time when the country was grappling with the AIDS crisis and his statement infuriated activists, as promiscuity was the main cause of the disease. He was accused of sexism and some claimed that the numbers had been exaggerated. Despite all the backlash, Chamberlain stuck to his guns, claiming that his tally was accurate. However, he later seemed to have reflected on his past actions as he said, "Having a thousand different ladies is pretty cool, I've learned in my life. I've also found out that Having one woman a thousand different times is more satisfying".

Hank Baskett is a former NFL wide receiver who is married to former Girl Next Door Kendra Wilkinson. While commenting about their sex life, Wilkinson said, "The thing is we are fun people we don't trap ourselves in the bedroom we are spontaneous and we don't take things so serious and we don't limit ourselves to our bedroom. We like to look outside the box!". According to her, they tend to avoid being in the bedroom as much as possible as they think of it as a place to sleep. She then went on to reveal that they'd had sex in the kitchen, a Jacuzzi, in cars and wait for it, on a jet ski while on vacation in Cabo. She once tweeted that she and her husband had sex at one of the vineyards while on a wine tasting tour. In another interview, Wilkinson claimed that they had sex in front of the Christmas tree. Well, 'Tis the season to be jolly.

Franz Beckenbauer is a former German footballer, nicknamed 'Der Kaiser', meaning 'The Emperor' back in his country. The former defender captained Germany when they won the World Cup in 1974 and was manager of the national team that won the 1990 World Cup. While his isn't exactly a confession, it still happens to be pretty hilarious. Beckenbauer appeared in a series of adverts for a mobile company and was thus offered the opportunity to get himself a personalized phone number. He went on to pick the number 0176/666666.

Thing is, the German word for the number 6 happens to be 'sechs', which sounds quite similar like... exactly. So people thought the number belonged to a hotline and when Beckenbauer was inundated with phone calls, it could only mean one thing. Apparently, he finally had enough when a man called him late into the night asking for some dirty talk. Having picked the number because it would be easy to remember, he probably wasn't keen on recalling what transpired after.

via gotceleb.com

Miesha Tate is now retired from MMA but she's still not backing down on the physicality aspect that she brought to the table. Her ex-boyfriend Bryan Caraway shared some explicit details on what went on behind closed doors with the former UFC Bantamweight Champion:

“I’m not gonna lie. It’s pretty awesome,” he was then asked if he choked Tate

“I don’t think we’re into the choking— we have enough of that in our normal daily life. I can tell you it’s pretty interesting. She’s crazy— nothing too weird. But, you know. I’ll let your imagination do it’s thing. It’s pretty gnarly, I couldn’t ask for anything more. Think about all of your fantasies. It’s THAT much better.”

That sure sounds like a satisfied man.

George Best was a terrific player with superstar status. Having come to prominence in the swinging sixties, he was bound to go with the times and became known as a playboy. In fact, he once skipped a game in order to have the opportunity for dalliance. Thus in 1970 when then United manager Wilf McGuinness caught him in the act one afternoon at the team's hotel, it must not have been too much of a shock to him. The problem was that it was just an hour before United's FA Cup semi-final match against Leeds. McGuinness would have sent Best home but was convinced otherwise and decided to let him play. Best ended up having a terrible game for he fell over the ball when he had the chance to score the winner for United. Best himself expressed regret at wasting that chance in his autobiography and admitted that his actions the hour before hadn't been wise.

7 Maria Sharapova Lacks Some Skill

via maxim.com

Maria Sharapova has been one of the most famous tennis players of the 21st century and it hasn't always been for her game. While she's won plenty of tournaments, she doesn't have the winning pedigree of say, a Serena Williams. But, due to her stunning Russian looks, she has secured many endorsements and gets plenty of attention for her looks. Many men have fantasized about her, however according to a former lover, Adam Levine, Sharapova doesn't have much skill, despite what her on-court noises may tell you.

“She wouldn’t make any noise during (the act). I can’t tell you how disappointed I was. I really thought, like a lot of guys, that she’d be the loud screaming type. But instead, she just lay there like a dead frog. She even got angry if I started to moan, said it ‘ruined her concentration.’ It was so disillusioning that I went on Paxil for a month afterward. Really, it was much more of a shock than when I found out there’s no such thing as the Easter Bunny.”

Magic Johnson became the face of those affected by the HIV virus after he came out in 1991 and announced his retirement due to being infected with the disease. He has helped erase the stigma behind the disease, as he has lived with it for 25 years. Magic Johnson has since said he wishes he was more careful when partaking in his 'activity'. Not much was known about Magic's escapades before, but Jerry West's autobiography shed some light on the subject. According to the book, Magic once claimed to have slept with 300-500 women per year and didn't use protection when doing so. Being one of the most famous basketball players in the world at the time definitely lent itself to opportunities, but it definitely was ill-advised to not take the proper precautions.

5 Ronda Rousey Sees It As Training Before A Fight

AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Neil Davidson

Ronda Rousey revealed in her autobiography My Fight, that training before a fight is one of the most brutal experiences one could imagine. On top of all the training, there is the stress of cutting weight and making sure that you don't miss a weigh in. However, Rousey also revealed that while training, there's one pleasure she doesn't deprive herself of. She's often said she's not a pleasant person to be around once she's in full training mode, but if you're dating her, you might not want to keep too much distance. There's the old adage that fighters usually refrain from bedroom activity before a fight, but for female fighters, it appears to be a different approach:

“For girls, it raises your testosterone, so I try to have as much sex as possible before I fight actually.”

4 Jaromir Jagr Didn't Mind 18-Year-Old Trying To Blackmail Him

Jaromir Jagr is in his mid 40s and he has played his entire hockey career as an unmarried man. He truly is the kind of guy who marches to the beat of his own drum and clearly enjoys being a professional athlete without dealing with the responsibilities and commitment of being in a marriage and having a family. Being the bachelor legend he is, Jagr hasn't had any trouble meeting new women. However, recently, Jagr was photographed next to an 18-year-old woman in the bedroom and she claimed she was going to use the picture to expose their activity unless Jagr paid her a sum of money. However, Jagr was unfazed by the threat, as he had done nothing wrong and so the picture of the two went up on social media.

3 Kevin Durant Expresses Some Weird Fantasies For Scarlett Johanssen

Sergio Estrada-USA TODAY Sports

This one wasn't so much for an act Kevin Durant committed, but he did reveal a surprising fantasy that one would not expect an athlete to make. In response to Scarlett Johanssen on Twitter, Kevin Durant tweeted to the actress, "I will drink your bath water." That's sure a surprising and very bizarre expression of fantasy from a well-known NBA player.

When going on Bill Simmons' podcast shortly after the tweet, KD doubled down on what he said: "I hope she was aware of it," KD told Bill Simmons. "It is strange now because it made me look crazy, but now it made me look real cool because I would. I actually love Scarlett Johansson, and I would do that. And she’s single now from what I heard."

Nowadays, Durant isn't the most universally loved NBA player as many are still holding it against him that he left Oklahoma City for greener pastures in Golden State.

2 Did Delonte West Confirm The Rumor About LeBron's Mother?

There were rumors that surfaced during LeBron's last season of his first stint with the Cavaliers that his game had gone south due to teammate Delonte West sleeping with his mother. For years, West and LeBron denied the rumors, and rarely spoke about it. However, back in 2014, West used some wording that many took to believe he had indeed admitted something. When talking about his son, he expressed not wanting to name him Delonte Jr. as to not raise questions from others. Here were his words:

His middle name is Delonte but I didn’t want to name him Delonte West, Jr. just because of that,” he says in the video. “I don’t want my son going to school and people making fun of him for something his daddy did. He goin’ to school and ‘didn’t your daddy have sex with LeBron’s mamma?’ I don’t want him to deal with all that man.”

1 Anonymous College Player Reveals "Contest"

AP Photo/Keith Srakocic

It's not only professional athletes who deal with so many temptations about life behind closed doors. College players get plenty of chances too. One anonymous college basketball player revealed all to TheCut.com and revealed how far some athletes will go in competition.

"Sometimes the guys on the team get competitive about it. Our freshman summer we actually made it a competition: Who could (hook up) with the most girls. We had a point system, and we called ourselves the EFC: Elite F****** Committee. We’d keep track and meet up on Sunday and tell stories."

Wow, that definitely isn't something college teams would want their players focusing on, and it's no surprise the player chose to remain anonymous about it. It's just one of perhaps many examples of what goes on at college campuses among athletes.
