The astonishing fall of O.J. Simpson has been well documented since 1994. Born Orenthal James Simpson in San Francisco, California, the former NFL running back played professional football for 11 seasons with the Buffalo Bills from 1969 to 1977 and his home team, the San Francisco 49ers, from 1978 to 1979. He attended the City College of San Francisco before transferring to the University of Southern California. The Bills selected him with the first overall pick in the first round of the 1969 NFL draft.
At that time, Simpson was one of the best players in the NFL. He ranked second on the league's all-time rushing list with 11,236 rushing yards. He was the fastest player to gain 1,000 rushing yards in season with 1,025 in 7 games in 1973 and 1,005 in 7 games in 1975 (tied with former running back Terrell Davis), fastest player to gain 2,000 rushing yards in season with 2,003 in 14 games in 1973. He also had the most rushing yards per game in a season with 143.1 in 1973.
Simpson was dubbed as "the Juice" because of his power. While he found some work in acting and broadcasting following his retirement, he was also charged (and later acquitted) for the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman. In addition, he was arrested and charged with armed robbery and kidnapping after stealing sports memorabilia at gunpoint at the Palace Station in Las Vegas, Nevada. After serving a nine-year parole in prison, he became a free man on October 1, 2017. In spite of that, there are things about him that remain, so here are 15 photos he absolutely doesn't want you to see.
15 O.J. With His First Wife
As you should already know, O.J. Simpson was married to Nicole Brown, who worked as a waitress at a nightclub called "the Daisy." But did you know his first wife was Marguerite L. Whitley? Not much is known about the unknown couple, but they had three children together: Arnelle (born 1968), Jason (born 1970), and Aaren (1977 to 1979; died by accidental drowning). They divorced in 1979.
Six years later, Simpson married Brown after his retirement from the NFL. It shouldn't be a surprise the couple had a rocky relationship since Simpson had an affair with Simpson while still married to Whitley. They had two children: Sydney (born 1985) and Justin (born 1988), but things quickly went downhill with Brown filing for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, in 1992. They tried to reconcile and work things out, but sadly, none of those attempts worked and Brown was found stabbed to death in 1994.
14 Sydney With Her Boyfriend
We don't know how Simpson feels about his daughter, Sydney, dating a white guy, but we're pretty sure he went ballistic at some point. She went on to live with her grandparents following her mother's unexpected death and graduated from Boston University. After her college graduation, she decided to run her own limited liability company called Simspy LLC. So it's only right if she dates someone equally as successful as her.
In 2017, Robert Blackmon was one of eight candidates who ran to become a District 6 representative in St. Petersburg, Florida. Of course, some voters were swayed by the fact he's dating the youngest daughter of a convicted felon, but he didn't let that bother him. He trailed Gina Driscoll by four votes for second place in the District 6 primary election. A recount of the votes took place on September 1, and the Pinellas County Election Department re-counted provisional ballots, conducting both a machine and manual re-count. While Blackmon picked two votes from the re-count, the official results showed that Driscoll finished two votes ahead of Blackmon for second place with 1,216 votes as opposed to 1,214.
13 Did O.J. Take The Rap For Jason?
Like most high profile cases, there's a conspiracy theory by private investigator, William C Dear, in his book OJ Is Innocent And I Can Prove It. According to Dear, Simpson didn't carry out the double murder, concluding that he was at the scene shortly after the crime occurred. Hence, the presence of his footprints and blood, and the murders were actually carried out by his son, Jason, and that he took the rap for him.
In Dear's book, Jason was diagnosed with intermittent explosive disorder and was prescribed Depakote to control his rages and seizures. He attempted suicide at least three times. Six months before the murders, he visited the emergency room because he heard voices in his head and felt like he was going to rage because he ran out of Depakote (and stopped taking it for two months before the murders). He also came close to killing one of his ex-girlfriends.
12 Was O.J. A Possible Threat To Himself?
It's a little hard to believe Simpson would glamorize suicide, but here's a black-and-white picture of him clowning around in front of a photographer named Joe DeMaria, who snapped a photo of him wearing a security guard’s cap and holding a holster and revolver as he awkwardly posed for the camera. DeMaria told the New York Post, "In one shot he’s pretending he’s committing suicide with the gun to his head. In another, he’s pointing at me!"
Well, that was kind of awkward since it's uncommon for a football star to fake a suicide attempt to himself and the photographer. Who knows, maybe Simpson struggled with a mental illness like his youngest son, but only if Dear's conspiracy was proved to be true. This was a tricky case, even for the prosecutors back then, so all we can do is speculate. However, it's obvious this photo made us wonder how he really felt.
11 Ron's Sister In Tears
Of course, it's a traumatizing experience when a woman has to cope with the death of her brother, but Kim Goldman had many reasons to be upset over the mysterious death of her brother Ron, who might've been dating Nicole Brown at the time his death. Ron worked as a waiter in a restaurant so it'd make sense for him to be friends with Nicole, who worked as a waitress.
The duo grew incredibly close to each other in the weeks leading up to their deaths. Nicole and Ron often worked out together. They also went out to eat and hit up nightclubs. It wouldn't be a shock if they actually dated as Ron reportedly bragged about Nicole's good looks whenever they pulled up to the club in her Ferrari. Ron's old friend Mike Pincus told Bustle, "He definitely would have told me if he was seeing O.J. Simpson's ex-wife...That's just the kind of guy Ron was. Whenever he was dating someone, we all knew about it."
Kim wasn't satisfied with the TV series The People v. O.J. Simpson, claiming there were some things that weren't mentioned about the case.
10 Attack On Ron
According to the National Enquirer, homicide detectives who worked for the murder case, dubbed as the "trial of the century" believe that Simpson first attacked Goldman, who put his hands up in order to protect himself. But as you can see, the crime scene was absolutely horrific.
Former model Heather MacMillan told the National Enquirer, "Ron was at a trendy nightclub when Simpson came storming in, looking for Nicole. 'He was really mad, screaming at Nicole: 'Get over here now! You're leaving with me now, b****!'"
It seems like Simpson had anger issues out of jealousy like some men would experience if their ex-girlfriends or ex-wives hung out with other guys. If this was the case, then it wouldn't be much of a surprise since his marriage to Brown appeared to manifest itself in really ugly ways that no one could deal with.
9 Autopsy Of Ron
Following Goldman's death, a coroner performed an autopsy on his mutilated body and provided this shocking photo, which might make you feel a little queasy if you have a weak stomach. Look away from your computer or cell phone if you must.
Prosecutor Bill Hodgman described Goldman's wounds as overkill and added his personal thoughts that Simpson's obsession with Ron was real. He also said that Simpson's murders were crimes out of passion. We weren't there when the murders took place, but we're pretty sure that if Goldman was murdered first, Brown was likely traumatized by the horrific sighting in public. Nobody wants to see their friends getting hurt.
This photo is very shocking to the point where Simpson could've been proven guilty if the drawn-out case was still in progress today. It's so bad that you'll be wishing you never saw it even though you had to stumble across it.
8 Nicole's Chilling Photo Several Years Before
It's no secret that Brown endured several levels of abuse from Simpson during their seven-year marriage, but there weren't tons of photos and videos of the violence floating on the internet like if a Kardashian were to experience a similar situation right now.
The National Enquirer reported that Brown kept a diary and wrote her thoughts in it. Here's a disturbing photo of her with bumps and bruises from a domestic violence incident back in 1989. Simpson pleaded no contest to spousal battery, which might've been the wrong decision by the judges, but that's another story. Perhaps Brown had gut feelings that she'd be in danger by staying with her husband. We'll never know because she's gone, but all we can say is that she appeared to suffer a lot of intolerable pain in her short life when she likely didn't deserve it from a special someone.
7 Nicole Riding A Bike
Just by looking at Brown, you'd think that modeling would be the perfect fit for her. She stood at five feet and five inches and weighed about 125 lbs. She also had long blonde hair.
Brown was born in Frankfurt, Germany, to an American father and a German mother, but later relocated to Orange County, California. She attended Rancho Alamitos High School in Garden Grove, California, and Dana Hills High School in Dana Point, California. She became a homecoming princess at Dana Hills High School. Her former home economics teacher, Jo Hanson, told the New York Times, "Everybody was in awe of her. We get a lot of beautiful students. But she was the ultimate beauty. The girls liked and admired her. The guys were in love with her."
Brown did dabble in modeling, but didn't like the experience and turned to waitressing. Modeling isn't for everyone, but she does look great while riding a bike and Simpson likely wanted this photo removed from the internet.
6 Nicole Hanging Out With Kris Jenner
Brown and Simpson were close friends with late attorney Robert Kardashian and his first wife Kris Jenner. That being said, Brown's best friend was Jenner, who admitted that she'll always feel guilty about her debatable death.
In the Lifetime Movies TV documentary, The Secret Tapes of the O.J. Case: The Untold Story, Jenner recalled that Brown shared her fears about how Simpson could hurt her. At the time, Jenner didn't take Brown's fears too seriously and ponders about not doing enough to help her late best friend.
Jenner told ABC News, "I will always feel guilty that I didn't pay more attention and didn't speak up when I thought anything was wrong or asked her more, “Do you want to talk about it?'"
In her memoir Kris Jenner . . . And All Things Kardashian, Jenner recalled when she first learned that Brown and Goldman had been murdered. She confessed, writing, "I instinctively knew that in some way O.J. had something to do with her death."
5 Is O.J. The Father Of Khloe Kardashian?
Reality TV star Khloe Kardashian shrugged off the paternity rumors for many years until late 2016. She posted a selfie with the puppy filter on Instagram and a follower wrote, "I don't know why but you look white in this picture." She responded with a sense of humor by writing, "I don't know… Some days I'm OJ's daughter. Others I'm Robert's daughter."
The rumors circulated even more when Simpson was granted parole in the summer of 2017. Kardashian was plagued with claims that he was her biological father, and as expected, she tweeted, "People are a**holes but I don't care lol I focus on the good." She added, "They are all f**** lol such a**holes. Hehe oh well.... I'm happy and they hatin."
It's true Kardashian isn't a stranger to resurfacing rumors, but we're pretty sure she doesn't appreciate all these rumors about Simpson being her biological father. Enough is enough!
4 Family Vacation Before The Incident
Just weeks before that fateful June day in 1994, Brown went on a vacation trip with Simpson and the Kardashian family. So what really happened between the two famed families?
Simpson was close friends with Robert Kardashian and that was how Brown met Kris Jenner, who often joined her then-husband and the Simpson family on vacation trips. According to Radar Online, Jenner even pledged her allegiance to Brown by donning maternity clothes that were handed to her in the courtroom and naming her daughter Kendall Nicole after her late friend.
Jenner was extremely distraught over Brown's death. She told Radar Online, "I saw all the pictures and the police reports and I heard tapes of Nicole calling 911...I beat myself up because I felt like I wasn't paying attention. Like, how did I miss this? But that's typical in an abusive relationship — that the woman doesn't speak out about how she's being treated."
3 The Scene Of The Crime
Most of us tend to forget about this part of the notorious trial, but here's a photo of the scene of the horrific crime—the double murder of Brown and Goldman.
Of course, Simpson was accused of the murders of Brown and Goldman, but was eventually acquitted. Both families combined for a total of $33.5 million in compensatory and punitive damages, but didn't receive the full $16.75 million payouts.
Here's a conspiracy theory though. Was a local inmate involved in the gruesome murders? An Investigation Discovery show called My Brother the Serial Killer took a look at serial killer, Glen Rogers, who was convicted by a Florida jury in 1997 for killing a woman. Rogers was also convicted of murder in California and was a suspect in several other homicides. Also, a criminal profiler in the show said that he received paintings by Rogers with clues possibly linking him to the murders.
2 O.J.'s Current Home
After Simpson became a free man, he moved into a large 5,000 square foot home in a secluded gated community in Las Vegas. Whether or not you think he deserves to live like a king, he's living like one as the home is located right next to a golf course. Yes, a golf course.
According to TMZ, the previous owner of the home is a longtime friend of Simpson who also testified in the Vegas robbery trial. It has a lot to offer with five bedrooms and five and a half baths along with a pool, hot tub and a putting green area. It's about 20 minutes from the Vegas strip. As far as we know, Simpson has kept a low profile in Sin City by quietly hanging out at his home and running errands here and there. He shouldn't feel the need to draw extra attention to himself anyway.
1 O.J.'s Mugshot
Like other people who have been arrested, Simpson doesn't want you to see his first mugshot.
Although Simpson was found not guilty, he wasn't a content man in the courtroom and locked away in prison. This sparked a lot of judicial-related controversies as many people had questions about the legitimacy of the American criminal justice system.
Though, we can most likely agree on something. According to a 2016 poll from the Washington Post, 83 percent of white Americans and 57 percent of African Americans believe that Simpson was guilty. Twenty-two years after the jury announced its not guilty verdict in Simpson's trial in June 1995, the opinions on this matter remain fairly divided, but at least the numbers are moving in the same direction, despite the fact that police brutality and racial profiling have been occupying the daily headlines in American news.
