Not to take anything away from North American women, but there's something about European women that makes them stand out above the rest. Maybe it's the exotic factor in that they look slightly different than what North American men are accustomed to or maybe it's just the accent - OK, it's definitely mostly the accent. Women say the same things about men from foreign countries, particularly Australia, but for men it really doesn't matter what country the woman is from or what kind of accent she has. It could be an Irish, German, or Russian accent and it'll get our heart pumping with excitement just the same.
Sorry to the ladies in North America, but European women simply have the edge in looks and accents and that likely won't ever change. The same obviously applies with European athletes, most of whom could probably - and likely do - work as models. Sure, the United States, Canada, and Mexico have their fair share of hotties on full display at the Olympics every two years, but the best part of the event outside of watching world-class athletes excel in their respective sport is tracking which European nation has the best-looking women. This list of 15 of the hottest European athletes proves it's a pretty tough task in picking which nation might be ahead of the rest as the following countries are represented; Russia, Italy, Slovakia, Hungary, Spain, Norway, England, Croatia, Finland, Germany, and the Netherlands.
15 Maria Sharapova (Russia)
We couldn't exclude Maria Sharapova, who is the most obvious selection and has perhaps the largest profile of all the athletes on this list, so we'll get her out of the way early. The former top female tennis player in the world is still only 30 years old despite seemingly being around for decades, although, admittedly, it's easy to confuse her with former Russian tennis star Anna Kournikova, who was just as beautiful but not quite as talented.
For her part, Sharapova has actually competed on the WTA Tour since 2001, when she was only 14 years old. She has won all four Grand Slam tournaments and has been ranked first for a total of 21 weeks throughout her career. She might not get the same amount of recognition for her beauty as someone like Genie Bouchard, but she has done quite a bit of modeling in her career and has nearly three million followers on Instagram, few of which are likely doing so to see photos of her playing tennis.
14 Marta Menegatti (Italy)
We probably could have included only beach volleyball players on this list and satisfied many of our readers, but it would be difficult to leave out so many beautiful European women. That said, we couldn't not include Marta Menegatti, a 27 year old Italian beach volleyball player who competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio before being eliminated by the United States' April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings, who are both incredibly beautiful in their own right, but that's another story.
Menegatti had higher aspirations in the tournament, but was partnered with Laura Giombini just three days prior to the Olympics after her longtime partner was suspended due to taking a banned substance. There's plenty of reasons to visit Italy, but women like Menegatti are definitely atop the list.
13 Dominika Cibulkova (Slovakia)
We mentioned we could include only beach volleyball players and the same is true with European tennis stars. While Genie Bouchard and other young stars receive the bulk of attention for their good looks, it's actually Dominika Cibulkova who is the hottest woman on the WTA Tour and it's not even close. She's a little thicker than Bouchard, but, depending on your preference that's a good thing. She's got strong, powerful legs as well as a pretty face and an endearing smile.
The 28 year old native of Slovakia is also incredibly talented; she turned pro in 2004 and has since won eight WTA tournaments and became the first Slovakian woman to reach the finals of a Grand Slam when she did so at the 2014 Australian Open. Her Instagram account is filled with photos of her training and spending time at the beach and, as such, is a definite must-follow.
12 Rita Dravucz (Hungary)
Hungary might not be the country that first comes to mind when you think of beautiful European women. Likewise, water polo might not be a sport you associate with beautiful women. It's a fringe sport to begin with and its athletes wear caps to cover their head and often have a mouth guard in, which doesn't exactly make for the most appealing photos. However, one look at Rita Dravucz outside of the pool and it's clear that the sport - and Hungary - has its fair share of women most men could only dream of landing.
Dravucz is 37 years old, but looks just as young - or younger - as some of the other women on this list. In the pool, she is one of the country's most decorated water polo players, having represented Hungary in the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Summer Olympics. She was also a member of the 2001 national team that claimed the Women's European Water Polo Championship.
11 Belen Mozo (Spain)
I just love my #sangria! It's is my go-to summer refreshment when getting together with family & friends! I don't have many of those during the year, but still! I make it count! @beso_sangria came out a couple months ago with a PINK sangria. Which is my favorite! Do you guys enjoy a good fresh fruity sangria ? #summerdrink #summer
Twenty-nine year old Belen Mozo is often listed as one of the most beautiful female golfers in the world and with good reason. The native of Cadiz, Spain is equal parts adorable, sexy, beautiful, and any other adjective you might want to use to describe her appearance. She also appears to be a fun-loving golfer with an appealing personality and a good sense of humor.
She plays on both the Ladies European Tour and LGPA Tour. Mozo first earned acclaim for her golfing skills after she won the British Ladies Amateur Golf Championship in 2006. The following year, she enrolled in the University of Southern California (USC) and participated on the USC Trojans golf team. Her best result in a major championship since joining the LPGA Tour was a 29th place finish at the 2014 Women's British Open.
10 Christina Vukicevic (Norway)
A quick look at Christina Vukicevic's Instagram account might give you the impression she's a professional tennis player. The beautiful Norwegian has several pictures of her holding a racket or playing the sport, but she's actually an accomplished hurdler who recently retired from the sport. However, judging from the tennis photos as well as the dozens in which she is working out, it's clear she hasn't moved past athletics completely - she is still signed to a Nike sponsorship deal, after all.
Vukicevic broke onto the track and field scene in 2003 by winning the gold medal in hurdles at the European Youth Summer Olympic Festival and has since won multiple gold and silver medals in the World Junior Championships and the European U23 Championships. Her only medal at the senior level came in 2011, when she won bronze at the European Indoor Championships.
9 Amber Hill (England)
Regardless of your thoughts on guns, there's no way you're turning away from 20 year old English sport shooter Amber Hill. You could be the most progressive liberal who literally wants every single gun in the world destroyed, but scrolling through Hill's Instagram account will quickly make you change your stance on the matter - or at least allow for exceptions. Sure, it's not the gun that makes Hill look as stunning as she does, but it certainly doesn't hurt. There is a reason, after all, why the beautiful blonde has over 65,000 followers on Instagram, despite participating in a fringe sport.
She is successful and talented in her craft, however. Hill competed in the 2016 Olympics in Rio and had previously won gold in skeet shooting at the 2015 European Games. At just 20 years old, she still has plenty of room for improvement and is doing just that as she recently won another gold at the 2017 Commonwealth Championships.
8 Antonija Sandric (Croatia)
Most of the women on this list have at least more than 50,000 Instagram followers and are somewhat well-known worldwide, but Antonija Misura is a beautiful blonde who definitely deserves more attention on social media than she currently has. The 29 year old Croatian babe has 21,000 followers, but compares favorably to many of the women on this list. Women who play sports rank a little higher in hotness to begin with, but that's especially true when it's a woman who can ball.
Sandric, whose maiden name is Misura, has been playing professional basketball in Europe since 2005 and currently plays for CCC Polkowice in Poland. She represented Croatia at the 2012 Summer Olympics and earned widespread recognition for her looks. Former NBA player Nate Robinson tweeted that she "might be the most beautiful woman basketball player ever to lace up some sneakers."
7 Silje Norendal (Norway)
Silje Norendal might honestly be the most natural beauty on this list and, at the very least, has the most beautiful face. The blonde-haired, blue-eyed Norwegian babe is a four-time X-Games gold medalist, and you wouldn't know it judging from her innocent looks and slender frame, but she's a beast in the gym and is certainly not afraid of taking risks in the air. The professional snowboarder also competed in the 2014 Sochi Olympics in the slopestyle competition and finished in 11th place.
She won her most recent X-Games gold medal in the big air competition at the 2017 Winter X-Games Europe and also claimed a bronze medal in the big air competition at the 2017 World Championships. Do yourself a favor and watch the women's snowboarding events in the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympics.
6 Kiira Korpi (Finland)
If we had to settle on one country that produced the best-looking women, we would defer and instead choose Scandinavia, the European region that is comprised of Norway, Sweden, and Finland. Let's be honest, most of the women from those countries are Perfect ten's and Kiira Korpi is no exception. The retired Finnish professional figure skater has been competing since 2004 in both singles and doubles competitions, but called it quits in 2015 and now helps other Finnish skaters with choreography.
Although she has never competed in the Olympics, she at least has the distinction of being regarded as one of the most beautiful women in figure skating, not to mention the three medals - two bronze and one silver - she earned at the European Championships.
5 Darya Klishina (Russia)
An episode of Family Guy recently made the point that Russian women are either one's or 10's and that there's no in-between. While we can't speak to the former opinion, the latter is certainly true in that there's a lot of 10's in the Eastern European country. One of them in Darya Klishina, a 26 year old long jumper who finished ninth in the event at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with a jump of 6.63 meters. Her personal best is 7.05 and she recently won a silver at the 2017 World Championships with a jump of 7.00 meters, so hopefully we see her again at the 2020 Olympics.
Like her athletic skills, her beauty is not exactly a secret. She was in the headlines this past August for competing at the World Championships as a "neutral" athlete with no ties to her native country, but had previously been the subject of numerous blogs for her absolutely breathtaking appearance. Not surprisingly, she has over 200,000 followers on Instagram, which we can only assume is more than any other long jumpers.
4 Sophie Horn (England)
It's kind of a confusing question as to whether or not England is part of Europe. Technically it isn't, but it also is. It adopted the Euro over a decade ago and was part of the European Union, but is now in the process of removing itself thanks to the Brexit vote. But even then, it's still considered a European nation, although it's an island with no connection to Europe. It's confusing. But for the sole purpose of including beauties like Amber Hill and Sophie Horn, it's a European nation in our books.
Horn is a professional golfer who isn't exactly on the same talent level as the Spanish golfer Belen Mozo, but is unquestionably the hottest female to ever swing a stick. In fact, she's more prominently known for her work as a model, which isn't surprising at all upon looking at her. It's truly unfortunate we can only show you one picture.
3 Meeri Raisanen (Finland)
One might normally associate beautiful women with summer and outdoor sports like track and field or soccer, but this Finnish babe is as covered up as any athlete could be. Meeri Raisanen is the goaltender for Finland's national women's hockey team and a damn good one at that. The 27 year old backstopped the team to a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships (which is essentially a gold since Canada and the United States are so far ahead in terms of player development) with an impressive 1.99 goals against average and a .932 save percentage.
It was a crime that she didn't earn the best goaltender of the tournament, but a bigger injustice is the fact she only has just over 3,000 followers on Instagram, which is likely due to the fact it's hard to really notice how beautiful she is under all that gear.
2 Ellen Hoog (Netherlands)
The entire Netherlands' female field hockey team has had articles written about them detailing just how beautiful they are and Ellen Hoog is undoubtedly their leader both in regard to looks and talent. In fact, even an article on CNN.com has the title of "Ellen Hoog: Hockey's pinup girl ready for Rio." The 31 year old Dutch beauty might be one of the most well-known female field hockey players in the world; she won back-to-back gold medals at the Olympics in 2008 and 2012 and earned a silver in 2016. She even scored the winning goal in a pair of semi-final matches.
But she's known for more than just her athletic ability. She has done a great job of branding herself through her own personal website which also offers training and eating tips and links to her Instagram account, which is not surprisingly followed by over 180,000 people.
1 Alicia Schmidt (Germany)
One of the more recent European athletes recognized for their looks, Alicia Schmidt of Germany slides right to the top of this list for her unmatched beauty. The 18 year old German track and field star has been labeled by several publications as the World's Sexiest Athlete and it's no surprise why. Given her age, she has grown up in the social media world and isn't at all shy about posting photos to her Instagram account that older athletes might find a bit too distracting or scandalous.
A September 26 article by the Daily Star focused on her racy Instagram posts and noted she had over 30,000 followers on the social media platform. Apparently word has spread because she now has over 141,000 and continues to showcase her perfect body in numerous bikini photos. The 2020 Olympics could not come soon enough.
