5 Athletes Who Remained "Pure" Until Marriage (And 10 Who Had No Control)

The life of an athlete can be pretty difficult from the pressure of playing in their respective sport with the media scrutinizing their every move including their personal ones. Most athletes have a luxurious lifestyle that includes everything from money to drinking to women. Wilt Chamberlain was a legendary womanizer during his entire life, Rob Gronkowski’s partying habits are always in the headlines, and Derek Jeter’s dating resume could be the most impressive of all time.

Tiger Woods, on the other hand, was not known for his past relationships but his scandal was one of the biggest ones in sports history. Woods, a squeaky clean athlete back then, had multiple affairs causing his marriage to Elin Nordegren to fall apart and his sponsors to leave him. However, there are also athletes like Tim Tebow who chose to stay abstinent because of their faith. Tebow is quite possibly the most famous virgin athlete in the world today and he is very open about it. He has chosen to stay that way until his marriage and the lack of physicality caused one of his relationships to end. Surprisingly, Tebow is not the only athlete to stay abstinent and remained pure until holy matrimony.

Here are the five athletes who practice abstinence up to this day or remained pure until their marriage, and ten who had no control over their "temptations".

15 Pure: Tim Tebow

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The face of abstinence in athletes, Tim Tebow is known for his Christian faith more than his football and baseball career. Tebow is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and he pledged to maintain his virginity until marriage. He has always been outspoken about his religion and his personal choices.

Despite his abstinence, it has not stopped Tebow from having a short but impressive dating resume. Tebow has dated actress Camilla Belle, and 2012 Miss Universe Olivia Culpo. Belle and Tebow both pledged to maintain abstinence during their rumoured relationship while Culpo broke up with him because of the lack of intimacy. Tebow is not just looking for a beautiful woman but he describes his ideal girlfriend as sweet and kind with a servant’s heart.

14 No Control: Rob Gronkowski

via bostonmagazine.com

Probably the opposite of Tim Tebow, Rob Gronkowski is one of the best tight ends to have ever played the game and he is very open about his intimate life. Gronkowski, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, is known for his wild parties and he usually gets seen with the hottest women. However, “Gronk” does not have a 100 percent success rate with the women that approach him in parties.

He revealed in an interview with GQ Magazine that he gets intimate 98 percent of the time and he described it as pretty wild. However, that does not stop Gronkowski from dating. He has been linked with actress Bibi Jones and he has been in an on-again/off-again relationship with Patriots cheerleader, Camille Kostek, since 2015.

13 No Control: Dwight Howard

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Dwight Howard has played for five teams in the NBA, the same number of baby-mamas he has. Howard played the first eight seasons of his career with the Orlando Magic from 2004 to 2012. He also had stints with the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, and Atlanta Hawks, before ending up with the Charlotte Hornets this season.

Off the court, Howard has revealed that he has five children with five different women. Many fans know his son, Baylor, from Basketball Wives star Peyton Reed. However, Reed has claimed that Howard actually has children from eight women that include gospel singer Christine Vest. Fame has clearly had an effect on Howard, who wanted to change the NBA logo to a cross during his rookie season.

12 Pure: Lolo Jones

Just like Tim Tebow, Lolo Jones remains a virgin and she has been very public about it. Jones made headlines before the 2012 London Olympics when she revealed on HBO’s Real Sports that she is a virgin. Jones also revealed that staying a virgin is the hardest thing she has ever done in her life. She called remaining a virgin harder than training for the Olympics.

Jones, who is 35 years old, is a two-time World Indoor Championships gold medalist, winning in 2008 and 2010 for the 60-meter hurdles. She also won a gold medal for the 100-m hurdles at the 2015 NACAC Championships. Jones is also one of the few athletes to have competed in the Summer Olympics (2012, Hurdles) and Winter Olympics (2014, Bobsled). She did not win any medals in the two events.

via medium.com

Most people know Evander Holyfield as the man whose ear was bitten by Mike Tyson in a boxing match. Actually, Holyfield is one of the greatest boxers of all time. He has a professional record of 44 wins, ten losses, one draw and one no-contest. Holyfield is a four-time heavyweight champion and he has earned an estimated $500 million in his career.

But Holyfield had no control, causing him to lose all the money he has earned. It was mostly because of his three divorces and 11 kids by six different women. “The Real Deal” was still fighting in 2011 but he filed for bankruptcy in 2012. Nevertheless, things can only go up from there as Holyfield is a proud father of Elijah, one of the best running backs in college football.

Tom Brady is living life to the fullest as he is a multi-millionaire with five Super Bowl championships and he is married to Brazilian-German supermodel mogul, Gisele Bundchen. Brady is also considered the greatest quarterback in NFL history and he could win his sixth Super Bowl ring this season. But before he was locked up by Bundchen, Brady reportedly had a fling with actress Tara Reid in 2002. It was when Reid was considered one of the most beautiful women on the planet.

After Reid, Brady was involved in a two-year relationship with model and actress Bridget Moynahan from 2004 to 2006. They have a son together born in 2007. Brady was then rumoured to have dated New England Patriots cheerleader Meghan Vasconcellos in 2006 before meeting Bundchen later that year. The two married in 2009 and they have two children together, a son and a daughter.

“The Iron Man” of the NBA, A.C. Green holds the record for most consecutive games played with 1,192. Green has only missed three games in his career, all of which came from his second season in the league. He played the first eight years of his career with the Los Angeles Lakers, winning two championships. Green also played for the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and the Miami Heat. He won his third NBA title in 2000 with the Lakers. Besides his streak, Green was well-known for his abstinence throughout his adult life. He did not lose his virginity until his marriage to his wife Veronique in 2002 when he was already 38 years old. The couple still has no children but he has established the A.C. Green Youth Foundation to promote abstinence until marriage to teenagers.

8 No Control: Cristiano Ronaldo

via newsweek.com

Probably the most famous athlete in the world today, Cristiano Ronaldo is known for being one of the best soccer players in history and having one of the best dating resumes in the sports world. Ronaldo is a four-time Ballon d’Or winner, and he is on his way to winning his fifth this year. He has won 24 trophies for club and country, and his total individual accolades are too many to count.

On the other hand, it’s not hard to count and list the women who have dated or are rumoured to have dated the Real Madrid superstar. He has been linked to Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, and Gemma Atkinson before having a five-year relationship with supermodel Irina Shayk. Ronaldo is currently in a relationship with Georgina Rodriguez, and they are expecting a child together. It will be Ronaldo’s fourth child as he had a son with an unnamed woman in 2010 and twins through a surrogate mother earlier this year.

via vanityfair.com

Not the only New York Yankees legend on this list, Alex Rodriguez is one of the best and most controversial players in baseball history. A very talented and gifted player, Rodriguez took the MLB by storm in the 1990s as part of the Seattle Mariners and early 2000s with the Texas Rangers before winning his only World Series title with the Yankees in 2009. However, his legacy has been tarnished by admitting that he used steroids during his run with the Rangers and in 2013 when he was still with the Yankees.

As we all know, steroids can shrink certain body parts but it has not stopped Rodriguez from collecting a very good dating resume. He had two children with his ex-wife, Cynthia Curtis, and they got divorced in 2008 due to his affair with Madonna. Rodriguez has also dated Bethenny Frankel, Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz, Torrie Wilson, and Anne Wojcicki. At the age of 42 years old, he is currently in a relationship with Jennifer Lopez.

6 Pure: Kaká

via dailymail.co.uk

Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite, more famously known as Kaká, is one of the greatest soccer players of his generation. He was the Ballon d’Or winner, awarded to the best player in the world, in 2007. Kaká has also won 14 major trophies in his career for club and his country of Brazil. With an estimated net worth of $100 million, he could have used his money, good looks and popularity to get with girls around the world.

However, Kaká remained abstinent until his marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Caroline Celico, in 2005. The couple has two children together but they divorced after ten years of marriage. A devout Christian, he’s a member of Rebirth in Christ Church in his native Brazil and he plans on becoming a pastor after his playing career is over. But kudos to Kaká because has been dating model Carolina Dias since last year.

5 No Control: Calvin Murphy

via dailydsports.com

The undisputed champion in baby mamas Calvin Murphy holds the record for the most children by different women for athletes. Murphy, a basketball star for the Houston Rockets in the 70s, has fathered 14 children by nine different women. He also faced trial in 2004 for allegedly abusing five of his daughters. He was acquitted of all charges and he is currently part of the Rockets’ broadcast team for Root Sports.

Murphy was unstoppable when he wanted to impregnate women but he was also unstoppable on the basketball court. In 13 seasons with the Rockets, Murphy averaged 17.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.5 steals, despite standing at just 5 feet 8 inches tall. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993 and the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.

4 No Control: Tiger Woods

Via: huffingtonpost.com

Tiger Woods made headlines earlier this year after being arrested for DUI in Florida. Woods’ career has been on a downhill ever since his infidelity scandal in 2009. The scandal and the amount of mistresses he had ended his marriage to former model Elin Nordegren. Woods started dating alpine ski racer, Lindsey Vonn, in 2012 but they broke up in 2015.

Some people forget that Woods is one of the greatest and most accomplished professional golfers of all time after his scandal. Woods has won 14 Major championships including four Masters, three U.S. Opens, three The Open Championships and four PGA Championships. He has also used his success to become a billionaire in 2009, although he would lose millions due to his divorce and sponsors cutting ties with him.

3 Pure: Philip Rivers

via firstandgoal.ru

It might be hard to believe, but Philip Rivers remained abstinent until 2001 when he got married to his high school sweetheart, Tiffany. Despite their abstinence, they made up for lost time as the couple has eight children: two sons named Gunner and Peter, and daughters Halle, Sarah Catherine, Grace, Rebecca, Caroline, and Claire. The above photo is one of him working for his charity, but his family photo looks very similar!

On the field, Rivers is one of the best quarterbacks of his generation and a future Hall of Famer. Rivers was drafted first overall by the San Diego Chargers and he has been with the team since. Rivers is a six-time Pro Bowl selection, the 2013 NFL Comeback Player of the Year and the 2010 NFL passing yards leader.

via si.com

One of the most legendary basketball players in history, Wilt Chamberlain has set records during his 15-year career in the NBA. Chamberlain holds a lot of records that stand to this day including the highest single-season scoring average (50.4 points) and the single-game scoring record (100 points). He’s also a basketball Hall of Famer, a one-time MVP, 13-time All-Star, seven-time scoring champion, 11-time rebounding champion, and a two-time NBA champion.

Off the court, Chamberlain is known for his womanizing and his lawyer was famously quoted for saying, “Some people collect stamps, Wilt collected women.” The legend of Chamberlain includes being with 23 women in a span of ten days, and he has allegedly been with 20,000 women throughout his adult life. Chamberlain never married and had not produced any children. He died on October 12, 1999, at the age of 62 years old due to heart failure.

via people.com

He played in New York for 20 years and he has earned 14 All-Star selections, five Gold Glove Awards, five Silver Slugger Awards and the 1996 AL Rookie of the Year.

Jeter has since retired from the single life after marrying model, Hannah Davis, in 2016, and the couple had their first child, a daughter, in August.
