8 Athletes You Didn't Know Recently Got Married And 7 Who Recently Split

Marriage can be one of the most beautiful and cherished days in two people's lives. It is a day full of love, togetherness, and the unity of two separate families becoming one. Marriage can then lead to a family starting with a beautiful house, a couple of kids, a pool in the backyard, and maybe a dog running around as well. Marriage is the inevitable ending goal. But where there is marriage, there is also divorce.

Divorce, unlike marriage, can be one of the worst processes to ever go through. For some women, it can be even more painful than childbirth. You have to go through the paperwork, the fighting over property, and fight the harsh reality that two people fell out of love. Kids have to pick sides on holidays and custody battles ensue. The whole thing is one big mess that nobody ever envisions doing.

This article takes a look at both sides of the equation. Every day it seems like there is a marriage and a divorce going on at the same time. As much as we see them only in their sport, we have to remember they are people like you and I and are dealing with planning weddings or finalizing divorces as well. Some athletes recently just tied the knot with the love of their life and cannot wait to take the next step. Others have recently dotted the I's and crossed the T's to legally divorce from their former lover. But without further adieu, let's take a look at eight athletes who just recently got married and seven who recently just split up with their former flame.

15 Married: Jarret Stoll and Erin Andrews

via businessinsider.com

Leading off the list of happy newlyweds is a former hockey player and well-known sportscaster that couldn't help but fall in love with each other. Jarret Stoll played professional hockey for 15 years for teams like the Oilers, Kings, Rangers and Wild. In his career during the regular season, he had 144 goals and 244 assists which combined for 388 total regular season points. Erin Andrews is a well-known sideline reporter that currently does "Fox NFL" along with being the host of "Dancing with the Stars". Their relationship began in December of 2012.

Then in December of 2016, Jarret popped the question of marriage and Andrews happily agreed. They were married in June of 2017. This seems to be a great match for the both of them. Erin Andrews is a huge sports gal and Jarret Stoll is a recently retired professional hockey player. He will definitely have time to love and cherish Andrews when she is not on the road. Hopefully, this road of love doesn't take a detour or end anytime in the near future.

14 Split: Chad Johnson and Evelyn Lozada

Johnny Louis/WENN.com

The first divorce that we have on our plate comes from a man who was known for his great hands when running long routes and his outlandish personality. Chad Johnson was once a big time wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals. He also was known for being very outspoken and legally changing his name to "Chad Ochocinco" after his trademark number 85 jersey.

Evelyn Lozada was one of the stars of the hit MTV show "Basketball Wives". She also has been known to date around with professional athletes. She first was with former three point specialist Antoine Walker from the Boston Celtics. Then she dated Johnson, married him in 2010 and then divorced him two years later in 2012 because of multiple factors. Finally, she dated MLB outfielder Carl Crawford, had a kid with him; and then proceeded to break up with him.

Johnson in the long run should consider himself lucky considering Lozada doesn't seem to be able to possess the quality of long term commitment. Lozada should also feel lucky because Johnson is a lunatic who has no filter and will say anything that comes to his mind. Maybe Johnson can marry his Xbox and be in a happy long term relationship, considering he loves to challenge fans on social media to play FIFA.

13 Married: Derek Jeter and Hannah Davis

via people.com

This next baseball legend certainly spent some time "playing the field" with a variety of different women. Some of the names this man was getting with were unbelievable. Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, and Tyra Banks are just a few of the names that come to mind when thinking of him. He was the Yankees shortstop for almost two decades and now he is enjoying the married life. Derek Jeter definitely will be in the Hall of Fame one day. He hit for a career .310 average along with close to 3,500 hits. Now, he is taking the reigns of the Miami Marlins organization.

He is married to Hannah Davis, a beautiful model who was featured multiple times on the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues and was on the cover of the 2015 edition. Davis has quite the beautiful looks for a man who spent his time dating around with beautiful celebrities. The two were engaged in November of 2015 and got married in July of 2016. They have a baby girl currently and time will tell if she will inherit Jeter's baseball genetics. But if she does get them, watch out softball world, because she will be a force to be reckoned with. It is nice to see Jeter finally settle down with a good woman.

12 Split: Tim Duncan and Amy Sherrill

via youtube.com

This next NBA proven winner showed he could dominate almost any big man down low in the post. For a while, it seemed like he had a solid lock on marriage with his long time wife. But unfortunately, that was one thing that came to an end abruptly. For everything great that ended on the court, off of it was where he didn't get a happy ending. He married Amy Sherrill in July 2001, and had two beautiful children. Unfortunately, the family didn't stay together as they divorced in November of 2013. Duncan didn't dwell forever as he now has another long-term girlfriend. But the thing that I'm sure a lot of fans are wondering is why Duncan divorced his former wife? Duncan is one of the most mellow, easy-going guys that ever played in the NBA. It was extremely rare to see Duncan mad. Who knows. But Duncan will hopefully marry again and hope his second one ends better than his first one.

11 Married: Michael Phelps and Nicole Johnson

via people.com

Some new marriages seem to just go by swimmingly. Well, that is very convenient for the guy in this next marriage. Michael Phelps is the premier name when it comes to the sport of swimming. He had the run at the 2008 Olympics where he won eight gold medals which was a record. The funny thing was he briefly retired and ended up winning eight more gold medals after his retirement. He needed to find a lady that could handle his life in the fast swimming lane. Enter Nicole Johnson, a former Miss California USA winner who knew just how to connect with Phelps. It wasn't always the smoothest of rides during the entire course of their relationship. They met in 2007, started dating, and broke up in 2012. Then, they got back together shortly after and then became engaged in November of 2015. They became husband and wife in June of 2016, but details of the marriage were not released until about four months later. Based on the photo above, they seem very happy and very much in love. This is a marriage that should last so much as Nicole likes to be in and around water a lot.

10 Split: Carmelo Anthony and La La

via people.com

Some guys are known for hogging the ball late in the game, which then causes a lot of problems between him and his teammates. This man not only has been known as a ball hog in the past, but he also has been known to have his fair share of problems off of the court. Carmelo Anthony has been known as a scorer since the day he came into the NBA with the Denver Nuggets in 2003. With the Nuggets and Knicks, he was a shooter who looked to only score on offense and not do much else. Maybe his style of play will be different in Oklahoma City playing alongside Russell Westbrook and Paul George. La La has been an actress with her biggest roles coming in "Two Can Play That Game" and "Think Like A Man". They met, fell in love, and were engaged in 2004.

They finally got married in 2010 and then in April of 2017, La La filed for divorce because of accusations against Carmelo for cheating. Carmelo definitely doesn't know how to keep a good woman in his life if he is throwing away someone of La La's caliber. Maybe La La will find who she is looking for with this separation, but it is surely a shame they couldn't make things work and live happily ever after.

9 Married: Russell Wilson and Ciara

via justjared.com

This next marriage is a second marriage for one and a first marriage for the other. One is a famous R&B singer, the other a famous NFL quarterback. It seemed like it was the most unlikely of couples, but now they are happily married and made a family. Ciara has come out with many top hit songs such as, "1,2 Step", "Promise", and "Like a Boy". She is married to current Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Wilson has been a part of the Seahawks organization since his rookie year in 2012. He has a Super Bowl to his credit form the 2013 season and should have had another one in 2014 had it not been for a game sealing interception he threw to Malcolm Butler.

They began their love affair in early 2015, were engaged in March of 2016 and got married in July of 2016. They have been together ever since and have a daughter together that was born in April of 2017. It didn't seem like Russell would find love again after he divorced his first wife in 2014. But along comes Ciara who swept him off of his feet with her voice and her dashing good looks. This is only the beginning of their journey, but it seems like one that will have a happy ending. Or at least that is what Russell Wilson is hoping.

8 Split: A-Rod and Anne Wojcicki

via nydailynews.com

This next couple that recently called things off definitely have a history of dating other people of higher standards. Alex Rodriguez is a future Hall of Fame shortstop/third baseman who spent a majority of his career playing with the Mariners, Rangers, and Yankees. He has hit close to 700 home runs in his career and definitely has had his fair share of flings with famous women such as Cameron Diaz and Madonna just to name a few. Anne Wojcicki is an entrepreneur who knows a thing or two about selling. She sold herself as being a great girlfriend and wife. She was previously married to Google co-founder Sergey Brin in May of 2007. They had two kids and were happy for a while. But the happiness ended when they lived separately in 2013 and in March of 2015, they finalized their divorce.

Then, enter A-Rod and the two of them start to hit it off for a while. Then in February of 2017, they too called it quits. Wojcicki just hasn't had any luck long term with men. A-Rod can enjoy his life right now as an analyst and he's rebounded quite nicely in his love life, now dating Jennifer Lopez. But Anne might have to continue to search far and wide for her happy ever after. It would have been interesting to see if they could have continued on and eventually tied the knot if the timing was right for both.

7 Married: Sydney Leroux and Dom Dwyer

via pinterest.com

Soccer players just seem to belong together for some odd reason. They hang out together in college, they have meals together, and some of them get into relationships. The best case is that two players end up together and live a life of holy matrimony. That was the case for these two professional soccer players. Sydney Leroux has made headwinds playing for the United States Women's National team and in the NWSL. Dom Dwyer is in the MLS, playing for Orlando City. He won an MLS Cup in 2013 with Kansas City, so he definitely knows how to win on and off of the field. In 2014, they started dating and the rest has been history.

They were married in a private ceremony in January of 2015 and currently have a one-year-old son. It just seemed fitting that these two ended up together for the long haul. They both have similar schedules and understand the grind the other one goes through. They definitely have been happy since their wedding. But the same cannot be said for Aaron Rodgers.

6 Split: Aaron Rodgers and Olivia Munn

via si.com

What a tragic turn of events this NFL quarterback has had. He went from winning a Super Bowl and being the man in Green Bay to getting injured for potentially the season and losing a great girlfriend. Aaron Rodgers has been known as one of the most consistently good quarterbacks in the NFL. He won Super Bowl 45, while garnering the MVP award for the game. He also is a two time NFL MVP in 2011 and 2014. Olivia Munn is an actress that has made herself known with some big roles. She was the star of several well-known movies such as, "Ride Along 2", "Magic Mike", and "Date Night". The couple started dating in 2014 and everything seemed to be roses and daisies.

But in 2017, they realized they just weren't meant long term for each other and finally said goodbye once and for all. Munn will probably recover easier than Rodgers. He has to worry about a broken collarbone to recover from, so while he is rehabbing; he might have a lot of time to self-reflect and examine what could have been had he stayed the course.

5 Married: Cutter Dysktra and Jaime-Lynn Sigler

via nj.com

One of the toughest positions to be in is fulfilling the shoes of your father who had a successful sports career. Some of the kids have success. Look at Ken Griffey Jr., he is the perfect example. Barry Bonds is another example coming from Bobby Bonds. Some sons however are struggling to catch up to their fathers. Luke Farrell made it up the MLB while his dad John managed the Red Sox to a 2013 World Series title. Another son that couldn't quite cut the mustard was Cutter Dykstra. Cutter was drafted in the 2008 MLB Draft in the second round by the Milwaukee Brewers. He also played in the Washington Nationals organization until June of 2016, where he was released.

Luckily for Cutter, he was not cut by his now wife Jamie-Lynn. Jamie-Lynn is an actress that appeared in several HBO hits such as "The Sopranos" and "Entourage". Her and Dysktra began dating in 2012, became engaged in 2013, had a baby in August in 2013, and then got married in January of 2016. They have two kids and a seemingly good life. Dykstra may not have made it to the Major Leagues and lived up to his dad Lenny's expectations, but he made it big time by marrying a beautiful actress that loves him for him. At least they haven't divorced once...or twice.

4 Split: Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian (Twice)

via etonline.com

The Hollywood life fits some couples. But for others, it might drive away couples for good. That is what happened to this Laker and this Kardashian. Lamar Odom was an NBA player that had it all. He was playing for the Lakers, winning championships, making millions of dollars, and dating a Kardashian. He won two championships with the Lakers in 2009 and 2010 alongside Laker legend Kobe Bryant. Khloe Kardashian is famous alongside sisters Kourtney and Kim in "Keeping Up With The Kardashians". They are into the fashion world. The two married after a month of dating in September of 2009.

In December of 2013, the two were in the process of divorcing after Odom was arrested for a DUI. The two were ready to be divorced in 2015 until Lamar went unconscious and fell into a coma. Khloe held off on the divorce settlement until Lamar fully recovered. Then, in May of 2016, she filed again for the divorce. It stinks because essentially, they split up twice. Khloe had a heart enough to make sure he was recovering well and then had the same heart to finish off the divorce after Lamar became well. That has to be tough for Lamar, but he has his two rings that can outshine his two break-ups with Khloe.

3 Married: Sergio Garcia and Angela Akins

via si.com

Golf is all about precision and getting the ball in the hole in as little strokes as possible. It seems pretty easy right? Sergio Garcia has had his fair share of top five finishes in his career. He won the Master Tournament in 2017 and continues to win off of the course as well. Where did he find his newly married wife? On the golf course of all places! Angela Akins is a reporter for the Golf Channel. What a romantic story that is sure to be, isn't it? The two became in engaged in January of 2017. Finally, in July of 2017; they tied the knot and became man and wife. Yes, Sergio did kiss the bride. Sergio definitely hit a hole in one with Angela Akins. She is used to being around the game. She knows the demand of gold and the amount of time it takes for Sergio to get as good as he has been. She also has a beautiful smile and amazing body as well. Way to go, Sergio. Though this was fairly recent, this isn't the most recent marriage to occur regarding professional athletes.

2 Split: Julian Edelman and Adriana Lima

via people.com

The New England Patriots will do anything to win on the field and off the field as well. Julian Edelman has been the main target for Tom Brady over the past seven seasons. Unfortunately, he can't continue that in the 2017 season because he tore his ACL in the preseason. One thing he should have tried to continue is his relationship with actress and model Adriana Lima. Lima has modeled for Victoria's Secret in the past as well as Super Bowl ads. She knows how to get her face out to the public.

Edelman and Lima had an affair after Lima divorced her husband in March of 2016. There was even a time after the Patriots epic Super Bowl comeback when Lima came up to Edelman and called him "my lover". That is probably the sexiest thing a woman can say to a man. That wasn't good enough for Edelman as Lima said she wanted kids with Edelman and then he left the relationship. It is a very surprising move on the part of Jules, but it's his decision. This was probably just a fun fling for both of them to tell their friends about.

1 Married: Ronda Rousey and Travis Browne

Sasha Lazic/INFphoto.com

Finally, we arrive at the most recent couple that fans may not have known tied the knot. This was a match made in heaven, Two MMA/UFC fighters that are tough enough to handle each other, but still emotional enough to truly love and admire each other each and every day. Ronda Rousey was the toughest and most winning UFC women's fighter for a certain period of time. Travis Browne is an MMA fighter who has won 18 career fights and 14 of them by knockout. The funny thing was they were both with someone else when they claimed to have romantic feelings for each other.

They were confirmed to be together, just the two of them, in October of 2015. In April of 2017, they became engaged. Then finally, in August of 2017 on the day of the Mayweather/McGregor fight. That's smart isn't it? They picked a day when the entire sports world would be preoccupied and managed to get married under the radar.
