Some of the most famous couples aren't celebrity couples. Instead, they're sports couples where one of the parties is a well-known athlete with tons of money in the bank. Sometimes, both of the parties are well-known athletes; but let's get to the main point—sports couples are often considered to be relationship goals.

Sure, the mainstream media tends to portray professional athletes as perfect guys and girls, but this is a made up stigma made from a few first-class couples who display positive qualities such as class, growth and trust. There are a lot of sports couples who are basically their own worst enemies and pretty much carry negative traits into every relationship they're in. Just like every other couple, athletes can get caught up in all the drama and forget why they're in a relationship to begin with. This can lead to physical and mental fights, which can speed up the breakup process, depending on the severity of inner emotions like anger and sadness.

Some relationships weren't meant to last. In this list of sports couples, you might've already guessed that some of these couples would break up when you first heard the news that they got together. That being said, relationships are tough and breakups can be even more tough. That's just how life works. We'll let you scroll through this list and let you have your "I knew it!" or "I had no idea!" epiphanies.

Here are eight sports couples who split up recently and seven who are next.

15 15. Split Up: Danica Patrick And Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Danica Patrick, who is now set to retire from NASCAR, thought she found love on the racetrack when she began dating fellow driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in November 2012. Although the couple dated for a little over five years, Patrick ended the relationship in December 2017.

According to TMZ.com, Patrick was frustrated about her relationship's status as early as July 2017. Stenhouse Jr. pumped the brakes when it came to marriage because he wasn't ready for it. Stenhouse Jr. never proposed to her, not even in a public April Fools' Day prank on social media. When asked about the alleged engagement ring, Patrick simply said, "I was ready yesterday," but the big day never came. She's since moved on, and we wonder how her new relationship will play out.

14 14. Next: Blake Griffin And Kendall Jenner

The Kardashian/Jenner family isn't known for having long-lasting relationships and model and reality television star Kendall Jenner is not a exception to the turmoil problem.

In case you didn't know, Jenner is dating Detroit Pistons power forward Blake Griffin. Sure, Jenner and Griffin took their time to get to know each other after leaving their previous relationships with A$AP Rocky and Brynn Cameron, respectively. But they didn't end things with their exes for the right reasons.

Griffin is reportedly involved in a custody battle with his ex-girlfriend over their two kids, and more recently, was spotted with a mystery woman in Los Angeles, California. Yeah, they're a marketable couple, but things appear to be messy as of right now. Combine that with Griffin's recent trade to the less glamorous city of Detroit, and you wonder if Griffin and Jenner will be able to make the relationship work.

13 13. Split Up: Lindsey Vonn And Kenan Smith

Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn certainly moved on from PGA golfer Tiger Woods, but her relationship with former NFL assistant coach Kenan Smith didn't last very long. The sporty couple dated for just one year before calling it quits in November 2017.

A friend of Vonn told People, "Unfortunately, their busy schedules ultimately took a toll on the relationship."

We don't blame the former couple for feeling like they didn't have enough time for each other. At the moment, Vonn has to deal with a huge distraction: training for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. We wish Vonn the best of luck in the alpine skiing competition! We also hope Smith will land a new coaching gig in the near future!

12 12. Next: Danica Patrick And Aaron Rodgers

Yes, we have to bring up Danica Patrick again. Like we've mentioned earlier, Patrick ended her five-year relationship with fellow driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. last December and quickly found love off the track with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Sounds like Patrick found the missing puzzle piece, right? Wrong!

Both Patrick and Rodgers got out of their previous relationships last year. Neither of them were able to have "normal" relationships with their exes. Plus Patrick has a spotty dating history as she didn't get a proposal from Stenhouse Jr. and formerly married a physical therapist named Paul Hospenthal from 2005 to 2012. There were also rumors that Rodgers broke up with Olivia Munn because he wasn't ready to commit to marriage, a similar problem to Patrick's ex. With that being said, we don't think either party is going to make things work.

11 11. Split Up: Carmelo Anthony And LaLa Vasquez

Carmelo Anthony may be a star on the court, but his personal life isn't as starry as you might think. Anthony married his wife, LaLa Vasquez, in 2010 after having a son named Kiyan with his then-fiancee in March 2007. The couple's marriage was filmed for Vasquez's reality show LaLa's Full Court Wedding, but the excess attention and fame weren't the reasons why their nuptials fell apart.

The rumored reason why the couple separated was because Anthony allegedly knocked up a stripper in April 2017. Two months later, Vasquez moved out of Anthony's Upper West Side apartment due to her dissatisfaction. We don't blame her for feeling that way, but various reports have said that Anthony was inspired by Jay-Z to fix his broken marriage. Hopefully, the tumultuous couple will work things out, but until then, they're still separated.

10 10. Next: Tristan Thompson And Khloe Kardashian

Tristan Thompson is a key rotation player on the Cleveland Cavaliers, but people continue to rip his personal life. Thompson reportedly failed to attend the birth of his son, Prince, with his ex-girlfriend Jordan Craig and then allegedly left Craig for reality television star Khloe Kardashian.

Kardashian loves herself a sports guy, but we don't think her relationship with Thompson is going to last long, even with their upcoming child. Both parties have had rough previous relationships. We believe their past relationships are going to come back to haunt them and their personal failures are going to halt the healthy ways between them. You can never bet on a Kardashian having an extremely long relationship so a split between these two wouldn't be surprising.

9 9. Split Up: David Otunga And Jennifer Hudson

David Otunga is a WWE commentator and retired wrestler. He's a two-time WWE Tag Team champion. Following his retirement, he proposed to singer and former American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson after seven months of dating.

Hudson gave birth to the couple's first child, David Otunga Jr., in August 2009. However, their little bundle of joy didn't give them a whole lot to smile about as they broke up in November 2017. In addition, Hudson requested and received a protective order against Otunga. The order has since been dropped, as there was no evidence of Otunga being a danger to the child, combined with the face Otunga had spent considerably more time raising their son. It's safe to say they're never going to get back together.

8 8. Next: Karl Cook And Kaley Cuoco

Equestrian Karl Cook found himself a blonde bombshell in The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco, but we don't think the couple is going to stay together forever.

Although it has been reported that Cuoco is over the moon about Cook's proposal on her 32nd birthday this past November 30, we're sort of skeptical about how things are going to end up down the road. Not much is known about Cook and his personal life, but Cuoco had a failed marriage with former tennis player Ryan Sweeting from 2013 to 2016 and a short-lived engagement with addiction specialist Josh Resnik from 2011 to 2012.

Cuoco doesn't seem like the type of woman who was meant for long-term relationships. Not that we're rooting against this relationship.

7 7. Split Up: Luke Kennard And Savannah Chrisley

Luke Kennard is still in the midst of his rookie season with the Detroit Pistons, but before his NBA career could really take off, his stunning girlfriend Savannah Chrisley annouced that the couple had split:

“Obviously, any breakup you go through, it’s going to be hard, especially when it’s in the public eye and people are watching. I love putting things on social media, so it was all over social media,” Chrisley, told E!’s Daily Pop. “That’s my fault at that point, but I’m great today.”

The two only dated for four months and the reality TV star cited her desire to part as friends, rather than let the pitfalls of the relationship take a nasty turn. They're both still young and should be able to bounce back.

6 6. Next: Russell Wilson And Ciara

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is a 2013 Super Bowl champion, four-time Pro Bowl member, 2015 Pro Bowl Offensive MVP, 2015 NFL passer rating leader and 2017 NFL passing touchdowns leader.

Wilson has a stacked resume for a 29-year-old and has a gorgeous wife to match. Ciara is predominantly an R&B singer who has sold over 23 million albums to date. Ciara is also the baby mama of rapper Future, who had a sour relationship with Ciara that was so sour that it ended up in court for a custody battle over their son Future Zahir Wilburn.

Hopefully, Wilson knew that Ciara would be trouble before she walked in. Wilson himself pursued Ciara following a failed marriage to his college girlfriend.

5 5. Split Up: Kerry Rhodes And Nicky Whelan

Kerry Rhodes is an actor and former safety in the NFL. He most recently played for the Arizona Cardinals from 2010 to 2012. He found love on the set with his soon to be ex-wife, Nicky Whelan, who's an Australian-born actress.

However, the couple's relationship didn't last long. They tied the knot in Los Angeles on April 15, 2017. Six months later, many news sources reported that they were going to file for divorce. Well, that was fast! Not much is known about the mess that has been made, but we can say that their love has lost its intensity in a short amount of time.

Fortunately for the two of them, they handled the divorce pretty well and the process has gone along smoothly so far.

4 4. Next: Grigor Dimitrov And Nicole Scherzinger

Grigor Dimitrov is a Bulgarian tennis player with a career-high ATP singles ranking is No. 3, which he achieved after winning the 2017 ATP Finals. He's a darn good tennis player who can kill it on the court, but his fame doesn't match the attention surrounding his current girlfriend, Nicole Scherzinger (former member of the Pussycat Dolls).

Scherzinger is 13 years Dimitrov's senior, and while we don't judge couples consisting of older women and younger men, we don't see this couple lasting a long time because they seem to have different views in life. Also, it can be difficult to maintain a long distance relationship. Just ask Scherzinger's ex-boyfriend Lewis Hamilton (Formula One driver). We'll see if they're able to overcome these potential obstacles.

3 3. Split Up: Julian Edelman And Adriana Lima

Julian Edelman is a wide receiver for the New England Patriots. Edelman has been playing for the Patriots since 2009.

Edelman has had his fair share of ups and downs when it comes to his personal life. He has a daughter with his ex-girlfriend Ella Rose (Swedish model). After the birth of his first child, he had a rather private relationship with Victoria's Secret veteran Adriana Lima, but it ended just days before the 2017 Oscars weekend.

Since the couple's breakup, a source told E! News that Lima turned her attention to her modeling and acting career as well as raising her two daughters on her own. Edelman meanwhile, seems set to continue living the bachelor lifestyle while enjoying his time as a star receiver.

2 2. Next: Tiger Woods And Erica Herman

Tiger Woods is one of the highest-paid athletes in the world. Woods has broken lots of golf records, but he has also went on a downward spiral with numerous mistresses and even a DUI arrest in Jupiter, Florida.

Woods has dated and hooked up with many women even when he was married to his the-wife Elin Nordegren (Swedish model and daughter of Barbro Holmberg and Thomas Nordegren). Right now, he's currently dating Erica Herman, who serves as a general manager of his Florida restaurant called The Woods Jupiter.

With the way Woods' past has played out, we doubt they're going to last long. Just ask his exes and mistresses. Herman's an ambitious woman for thinking she can be the one to tame Tiger for good.

1 1. Split Up: Guilherme "Bomba" Vasconcelos And Demi Lovato

Many fans were shocked when they heard the news of Demi Lovato's breakup with her longtime boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama after six years of dating from 2010 to 2016.

Lovato seemingly moved on at a rapid pace...and finding love with MMA fighters. She dated UFC fighter Luke Rockhold after meeting him at a gym in L.A., but the couple was only together for several months before calling it quits. She quickly rebounded with another fighter Guilherme "Bomba" Vasconselos, who currently fights with Bellator.

Like most rebound relationships, Lovato and Bomba's relationship didn't turn into something more meaningful.

A source told People: "It wasn’t a dramatic split...Bomba is a good guy, but the relationship just ran its course.”

With the list being over now, we're sure not hoping for any of these couples to fail. Best of luck to them all!
