Almost every single child on the planet has played at least one sport over the course of their life, either because a parent or friend got them to play it, or because playing a sport was part of their gym class. In many cases, these children will continue to play a sport as they get older, mainly because they actually like the sport, but very few of them will pursue such a sport to a professional or Olympic level. The reason for this is quite simple, as Olympic and professional athletes generally make up the very best of what their respective sport has to offer, and the only way that they can achieve such a level, is by being incredibly athletic and skilled, and they also need to be able to keep up with rigorous training regiments.

The main difference between pro athletes and Olympians, is the fact that pros tend to play in major sports leagues, while Olympians tend to be amateur athletes who compete in World Championships and either the Summer or Winter Olympics. No matter what category they fall into, both types of athletes have to wear some kind of uniform or attire in order to compete, and to show solidarity with their teammates. We all wear clothes, and at some point in time, many of us have experienced some kind of wardrobe malfunction where our clothing either rips or somehow falls off, and in either case, we end up showing some excess amount of skin. In the sporting world, these malfunctions, or "oops" moments are greatly magnified, because they occur on live television that is sometimes being watched by millions of people, and this article will identify 20 of these moments.

20 Gabriella Papadakis' Olympic Mishap

The Winter Olympics have once again come and gone, and just like with other Games, many stories have emerged from South Korea, including one that centered around French figure skater, Gabriella Papadakis. She and her partner are considered to be one of the best Ice Dancing teams in the world, but in the middle of their first dance, the back of Gabriella's dress somehow unclipped. She tried to correct the malfunction during the routine, but it did not work, so she simply powered through the rest of the dance with one of her breasts exposed. It was indeed an embarrassing moment, but Gabriella received a lot of praise for her bravery, and she did not allow the malfunction to cloud her mind, as she and her partner went on to win the Silver Medal.

19 Gillian Cooke's Ripped Suit

If someone told you that they like to pass their time by getting into a sled and allowing gravity to propel them down an iced track filled with twists and turns, you would probably think that that person is a tad crazy. As crazy as that might seem, there is an entire sport built around this activity, a sport that no one really follows or cares about, except for when it is time for the Winter Olympics. These athletes wear tight bodysuits, and in 2010, British bobsledder Gillian Cooke accidentally exposed her derriere prior to her run in the World Championships. The rip occurred as she was about to get into the sled, but she did not allow that to stop her, as she and her teammate went on to finish in 7th place, which was good enough to secure a spot in the Vancouver Olympics.

18 Figure Skating Slip

There are a lot of people who find hockey to be a boring sport, and if those people think that a contact sport like hockey is not entertaining, than they probably fall into a coma whenever they see figure skating on TV. Figure skating sees 1 or 2 people perform a routine in an ice rink, and aside from the occasional flips and spins, the only really fun thing about the sport is when someone falls. Within figure skating, there is a discipline known as ice dance, which is actually very self explanatory, and it is with this sport that we have a wardrobe malfunction that was incredibly revealing. Ekaterina Rubleva is a former ice dancer, and in the 2009 European Figure Skating Championships, one of the straps on her dress snapped, causing part of her chest to be exposed for much of the remainder of the routine.

17 Arantxa Rus Getting Cheeky

When it comes to pro tennis, the Men's side has been dominated by the same half-dozen individuals for years, but when it comes to the Women's side, other than Serena Williams, the field is still pretty open. With that being said though, there are still many women who have found themselves at the bottom of the world rankings for their entire career, and Arantxa Rus has never been able to crack the top 100. The Dutch beauty's best performance came in 2012 when she made it to the 3rd round of Wimbledon and the 4th round of the French Open, but just because she has not won anything of importance, does not mean that she is incapable of entertaining fans. In several of her games, Rus has been caught wearing very short shorts under her skirt, which exposes a good part of her derriere.

16 Flavia Zoccari's Hilarious Disqualification

The vast majority of people in the world know how to swim, but very few of us are capable of turning swimming into a career, which is why Olympic quality swimmers become household names every 4 years. For those of you who have never watched or been to a swim meet, all swimmers compete while wearing tight swimsuits that are meant to be extremely aerodynamic. The problem though, is that when you wear tight outfits, there is a much higher chance of that outfit ripping, which is something that Italian swimmer Flavia Zoccari learned in 2009. During that year's Mediterranean Games, Flavia was stretching right before her heat, and her swimsuit ended up ripping as a result, exposing her backside. Aside from embarrassment, Flavia was also left disappointed, as she was forced to sit on the sidelines after being disqualified because of her swimsuit.

15 Henrik Harlaut Loses His Pants On The Slopes

You do not need to be a devoted fan of the Olympics to understand that the Winter Games does not offer the amount of events that the Summer Games does, which is why they need to keep adding sports. In 2014, the committee added freestyle skiing to the games, and it is basically the snowboard version of skiing, and one of the sport's best competitors is Henrik Harlaut. This Swede has won Gold in 5 different Winter X Games, but he has been unable to capture any Olympic hardware, but as far as the 2014 games are concerned, he lost a shot at the podium thanks to a wardrobe malfunction. During the Slopestyle qualifier, his pants fell, which gave us a glimpse of his blue underwear, and he had to continue his run with his pants literally around his knees.

14 Olga Graf Nearly Flashing The World

The Winter Olympics is pretty bare compared to its summer counterpart, and in truth, the 2 weeks of Winter Olympic coverage is for the most part very dull, as most of the sports are not that entertaining to watch. When it comes down to it, snowboarding, hockey, and speed skating, are the only sports that will attract the most viewers, as they are the most visibly exciting sports that require great skill and athleticism. Speed skating can be really fun, especially the short track version, as people fall quite often, and there are usually controversial disqualifications. In 2014, Russian speed skater Olga Graf went on to win a Bronze, and right after winning, she unzipped part of her suit, but when she unzipped, she brought her zipper down a tad too much, to the point that she nearly exposed her entire chest to the world.

13 Jenifer Benitez' Diving Accident

There are really two reasons why the Summer Olympics attracts more eyeballs than its winter counterpart: the athletes generally expose more skin, and there are A LOT more sports and disciplines involved. Most of the medals awarded during the Summer Games, come from aquatics, primarily swimming, but diving is also a part of the aquatic section, and all the competitors have to wear attire that is fairly tight. Every time a diver dives into the pool, they get out and head to a smaller pool to wash themselves, and when the women do this, they tend to readjust their swimsuits. During the 2012 Games in London, Spanish diver Jenifer Benitez was making one of these adjustments following a dive, and the positioning of the camera was not kind, as her nipple was inadvertently showed to the world.

12 Venus Williams' Eye Popping Tennis Attire

As far as tennis is concerned, we currently live in a Golden Age when it comes to talent, as some of the best male and female players in history can be seen competing against each other. Serena Williams may go down as the best female tennis player in history, but many forget that her sister Venus has also accomplished a lot throughout her career. Venus has won 7 Grand Slam titles, none of which include the French Open, and it was during the 2010 edition of that tournament that she briefly shocked those in attendance. Venus likes to design her own outfits, and during the 2010 tournament she wore an outfit that looked more like lingerie than tennis attire, but what really drew attention was the flesh toned shorts she wore under her skirt, which were so form fitting that people thought she was not wearing any shorts whatsoever.

11 Kerri Walsh Reminds Us Why We Like Beach Volleyball

Part of the appeal of women's sports is the fact that most of the athletes are attractive individuals, and sometimes, those athletes get more attention simply for their looks rather than their skill. Other than that, viewers, who are still mostly male, gravitate towards sports which feature women competing in skin-tight outfits, or in the case of beach volleyball, very little clothing. As it turns out, beach volleyball draws some of the highest ratings during the Summer Olympics, thanks to the women wearing sports bras and swimsuit bottoms, so you already see quite a bit. During one of those Olympics, Kerri Walsh, who was part of the American team, exposed a bit more when she dove into the sand for a ball.

10 Ricky Berens' Olympic Qualifier

You really need to have a superhuman lung capacity in order to become an Olympic swimmer, as it truly is a taxing sport to compete in, which is why so many swimmers are considered to be amongst some of the best Olympic competitors in history. In 2009, we got yet another example of how easy it is for a swimmer's suit to rip apart, and this time it happened to American Ricky Berens. Right before the qualifying heat in the 4x100 freestyle relay, Berens bent down to stretch before his swim, and while stretching, his suit ripped up the back, exposing his backside. Unlike what happened with Zoccari, Berens was not disqualified, in fact not only did he swim, he and his team went on to finish in 1st place, thereby qualifying for the 2010 Summer Olympics.

9 LeBron's Accidental Flash Before The Game

In every sport, there are barely a handful of individuals who can be considered the greatest player of all time, and in basketball, there is a debate raging between Michael Jordan and LeBron James fans. LeBron is without a doubt one of the greatest players in the history of basketball, as evidenced by the fact that he has led his teams to 7 consecutive NBA Finals. In 2015, LeBron and the Cleveland Cavaliers won the championship, but that series against the Golden State Warriors will be remembered for more than just the end of Cleveland's championship drought. Prior to game 4, ABC's camera focused on James during a huddle, and it caught him readjusting his shorts, where for a brief second, he  inadvertently flashed his junk to the world.

8 Nikki's Ringside Slip

Due to its scripted outcomes, and the fact that punches are not meant to actually connect, many people dislike professional wrestling, which is why they have no problem making the claim that none of it can be considered a real sport. Those people can make those claims all they want, because fans of pro wrestling know full well how much physical training and dedication goes into the business, which makes wrestlers legitimate athletes. Nikki Bella is one of the more popular female wrestlers in the WWE, and although she became so popular in large part thanks to her looks, she has improved in the ring quite a bit over the years. In July 2014, Nikki was involved in a match on Monday Night RAW, and she was tossed out of the ring when it ended, and it was while she was on the floor that she accidentally flashed the camera, which was broadcasting live.

7 Stephanie Gilmore Showing Off More Than She Intended

Over the last 15 years, there have been several hobbies/pastimes that have gone on to become legitimate sports, and the main reason for that is because you need to be quite skilled and athletic in order to perform them at a truly elite and competitive level. Surfing is one of these sports, and in 2020, it will be making its Olympic debut in Japan, and with any luck, Stephanie Gilmore will find herself on the podium. Gilmore is an Aussie who has excelled in the sport, and has 6 World Championship wins to prove it, and in 2014, she took part in shoot for Vogue magazine. During the shoot, Gilmore nearly lost her top while riding her board, but she was lucky enough to catch it before it could fly away, but the resulting image showed off much more skin than was intended.

6 The Outfits Of The Colombian Women's Cycling Team

As long as you have access to one, anyone can learn how to ride a bike, but there are some people who have the endurance level to ride one faster than ordinary people, and those same people can also ride one for a longer period of time over greater distances. It is those people who make up the world of professional cycling, and it is thanks to them that the act of riding a bike is still an Olympic sport. Many countries, including Colombia, have their own cycling teams, and in 2014, the women's team made their debut while showcasing brand new uniforms. Normally, the issues with these uniforms would be that they might rip from being too tight, but in this case, the designers just made a bad color choice. as the midsection was skin colored, which caused the area to look completely exposed.

5 World Cup Package

MLS has done a great job of promoting the game of soccer in the United States, but even with the help that the league has provided, pro soccer still has trouble getting the attention of American viewers. It is pretty easy to see why soccer has a hard time in the U.S., seeing as there is no real contact in the sport, and the fact that most games either end in a tie, or with very few goals being scored. With that being said though, soccer is still the most popular sport in the world, and every 4 years, billions of people tune in to watch the World Cup, which is considered by many to be the most prestigious tournament in all of sports. In the 2014 tournament, Ghana faced off against Portugal, and during the game, a Portuguese defender tugged at the shorts of Ghana's Jordan Ayew, a tug that exposed Ayew's underwear, which in turn gave us an idea of the size of his package.

4 Devin Hester's Full Moon

The U.S. is home to every major North American sports league, but there is only one league that really matters, and that would be the National Football League, as evidenced by the fact that the championship game alone is watched by more than half the country. Football players wear uniforms that can hardly be considered revealing, but that does not mean that they are immune from the embarrassment associated with showing off a part of their body. Devin Hester was a wide receiver in the NFL for about a decade, and he spent most of his career with the Chicago Bears, and in 2009, during a game with the Philadelphia Eagles, he gave the audience a great view of his rear end after an opposing player went for a tackle and accidentally pulled his pants down.

3 Nicklas Helenius Losing His Shorts

As mentioned earlier, there is not much contact in the game of soccer, because if there was, there would probably be a lot more scoring opportunities, and as we all know, soccer does not suffer from a lack of scoring. It was also mentioned that aside from the goalie, the game is meant to be played without the use of hands, but players will still paw at one another just to get to the ball. Nicklas Helenius is a Danish striker, and he is a pretty decent player, which is not all that surprising because if he was not, than a team like Aston Villa would have never signed him in the first place. While playing against Tottenham, a defender tried to stop Helenius, but ended up falling and yanking the Dane's shorts down, giving us a glimpse of his underwear.

2 Henrik Ingebrigtsen Laying It All Out On The Track

When it comes to Norway, they excel every 4 years at the Winter Olympics, which is a very good thing for the country, as its athletes tend to not perform all that well when the Summer Games come around. Like virtually every other country in the world, Norway has athletes who participate in Track and field, and for a decade, one of their best competitors has been Henrik Ingebrigtsen. He is a middle-distance runner who specializes in the 1500 metres, and in 2014, he finished in 5th place at the London Olympics, but just because he did not get a medal, does not mean that he did not leave a lasting impression. During the race, his shorts busted open, causing his jock, and the contents within, to dangle in plain sight for the remainder of the race.

1 Super Bowl XXXVIII Halftime Show

Based on the title of this article, most of you likely knew that this entry was coming, just because of how well known it is, and although Janet Jackson is not an athlete, her wardrobe malfunction deserves the number one spot. Janet is Michael Jackson's younger sister, and although her career was not nearly as legendary as the late King of Pop's, she has done pretty well, which is why she was asked to perform during Super Bowl XXXVIII's halftime show. That game ended with the Patriots lifting the Lombardi Trophy, but it will also go down in history as the game that showed a breast to a live audience of almost 150 million people. In the halftime show, Jackson performed alongside Justin Timberlake, and at the very end, he accidentally pulled off a piece of her costume, which exposed her right breast for a split second.
