Just three days ago, Klay Thompson set the record for most 3-pointers in a game by one player when he dropped 14 of them against the Chicago Bulls. Yet, last night the threes were falling again, but this time it was in Boston — as the Celtics came up just short of setting an NBA record of their own.

The Celtics beat the previously undefeated Milwaukee Bucks last night, 117-113. And in that game, they, as a team, drained 24 3-pointers — which ended up being just one shy of the record 25 set by the Cleveland Cavaliers last season.

Kyrie Irving led the charge, going 6-for-12 from downtown but as a team the Celtics had six players hit multiple 3s, including Gordon Hayward going 3-for-5, Al Horford's 4-for-11 and 5-for-8 from Marcus Morris. In total, the Celtics went 24-55 from downtown — taking more shots from behind the arc than in front of it (55 three-point shots of 92 total shots taken).

While most would probably expect to see the record broken by a team like the Warriors or the Houston Rockets, the Cs were certainly feeling it last night — thanks, in part, to the poor three-point defense by the Bucks. Jay King from The Athletic put out these Tweets, quoting Irving and Morris talking about how much fun it was to be so open all the time:

While the team is obviously happy to have won the game, they should be a little disappointed that they didn't end up setting a new record given how much time they had to do so...

With five minutes and 24 seconds left in the game, Hayward hit the team's 24th three, which left plenty of time to make just two more right? Well, it did, but the Celtics didn't! They took more threes but ended up missing five straight treys and not only missing out on the record but also seeing their 10-point lead narrow to just one point with 12 seconds to go in the game. They, at least, didn't let the victory slip away.
