The Miami Dolphins have made another big move in free agency, signing veteran quarterback Brock Osweiler to a one-year deal. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport broke the news:

Osweiler will most likely back up No. 1 signal-caller Ryan Tannehill - who missed all of 2017 with a torn ACL. But head coach Adam Gase already said that Tannehill will be the team's starter in 2018, though Osweiler does provide insurance at the position.

Miami needs a reliable backup after the team opted not to re-sign Jay Cutler, who came out of retirement to start for the team last season. Backup Matt Moore also struggled and likely moves down to number three on the depth chart, behind Osweiler and Tannehill.

Osweiler has had quite the up-and-down journey since 2015. He was heralded as Peyton Manning's successor in Denver, and started six games in place of the future Hall of Famer - who dealt with a foot injury.

Osweiler lost the starting job in Week 17, and saw Manning hold onto the starting job all the way up until Super Bowl 50, in which the Broncos were victorious. Instead of signing a long-term deal to remain in Denver, Osweiler signed a massive four-year, $72 million contract with the Houston Texans.

However, Osweiler struggled with Houston and was traded to the Cleveland Browns in the 2017 offseason. Houston also attached a critical second-round pick, desperately getting out of his deal.

Cleveland released Osweiler, and he rejoined the Broncos to back up Trevor Siemian. But when the latter struggled, Osweiler took over starting duties - but tossed just four touchdowns against four interceptions in six games.

Reuniting with former offensive coordinator and current Dolphins head coach Adam Gase could help Osweiler, but only if he manages to steal the starting job from Tannehill. That's extremely unlikely, but it helps to have a Super Bowl champion quarterback just in case.
