8 Female Athletes Back On The Market, 7 Taken Off And 5 Who Became Moms

Contrary to what many might think, the life of a pro athlete can be tough. To be the best, reach your potential, it requires complete dedication to your craft. It also requires plenty of sacrifice and some tough decisions. Female athletes have many tough decisions to make. Arguably the biggest one is whether or not to start a family. A lot of female athletes put marriage, dating and having kids on hold until their careers are over or are drawing to a close. They’ve weighed everything up and have put their careers first. Their sporting windows are pretty small, so they want to make hay while the sun shines, whilst they’ve got the opportunity to do so. But there are some who have put their careers on hold.

There are some female athletes out there who have done the whole shebang, have gotten married and have had kids. Some have even resumed their careers following these monumental life events, with varying degrees of success I must add. But for others, it hasn’t worked out. They’ve split from their partners and are single. Some don’t even venture into the dating game, prefer to put all their focus into their careers. Either that or they keep who they’re dating incredibly private. This is a list of 8 female athletes who are on the market, 7 who have been taken off, and 5 who have become moms. There’s some overlapping in this list. Some of the women fit more than one category.

20 Back On: Lolo Jones

35-Year-old Lolo Jones is one of the most popular athletes in the world. The American hurdler and bobsledder has been around doing her thing and wowing audiences for a number of years. Unsurprisingly she’s explored other ventures too, has done a fair bit of modeling. One of the reasons why she’s acquired such a massive level of popularity is because she’s a beautiful athlete. She’s in her mid-30s but still has the looks, still has that lean, ripped physique. It seems inconceivable that Lolo is single. But yes, Lolo is very much single. She’s also revealed that she’s a virgin. She’s very religious and believes in waiting until marriage. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons why she’s been on the market for so long. In fact, it is. Lolo has said as much.

She’s spoke in depth about how hard she finds it to date. She spoke on HBO RealSports: “Here's the two things that happen when you tell a guy you're a virgin, this is the honest truth. One, you tell them [and they say] "oh ok, I respect that". But you can already see in their eyes [that they're thinking] "she's lying about this and I'll crack it. So, we'll talk usually one to three months [later], then they're like "oh shoot, she was serious". Time for me to exit.” Lolo must be gagging for someone to get down on one knee and pop the question, or even just to be with her for any length of time.

19 Taken Off: Ronda Rousey

A post shared by rondarousey (@rondarousey) on

When Ronda Rousey started out, it’s fair to assume that there wouldn’t have been too many people who’d have minded if she’d been taken off the market. She wasn’t exactly deemed to be the most glamorous, beautiful fighter out there. But then she starting winning, starting making noise and dominating UFC. Along with this increased popularity came modeling gigs and photoshoots. Suddenly people’s perception of Ronda changed. A whole load of people began looking at Ronda in a different way.

Ronda went through a dark time in the later stage of her MMA career. She lost her final two fights. During this time, she was in a downwards spiral. She’s even admitted to having dark thoughts. But someone who was there for her, kept her going, kept her fighting through all the doom and gloom, was Travis Browne.

The UFC fighter has been with Ronda since 2015.

Initially there were some complications with the relationships, mainly due to Travis and his estranged ex-wife. But Ronda and Travis remained strong together. Last year things progressed to the next level. He took Ronda on vacation to New Zealand and popped the question under a waterfall. The duo were wed in August of last year. Things have been going swimmingly for the couple ever since.

18 Back On: Brittney Griner

via si.com

Brittney Griner has already earned quite a reputation for herself. Just look at her – she doesn’t exactly look like the warmest, most accommodating individual. She’s got a permanent scowl on her face, and is very serious when it comes time to getting down to business. It’s a rather unflattering reputation to have, not that Brittney would care. She’s young and hungry for success. She’s an intense individual.

Some may say that she has a reason to scowl. While things on the court might have been going swimmingly, her personal life has been anything but a smooth ride. She hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to relationships.

Brittney is an openly gay athlete. She came out during an interview with SI in 2013. During the interview she said her sexuality has caused her a lot of problems. It’s led to her being rejected, and her dad not accepting her.

In 2014, Brittney started a relationship with fellow WNBA player Glory Johnson. They got married the following year. A day after the duo announced Johnson was pregnant with twins – of which Brittney had to relation – Brittney filed for an annulment of the marriage. In 2016 they got divorced and Brittney was back on the market.

17 Became A Mom: Julianna Pena

Julianna Pena is one of the most popular female fighters in the industry. The Venezuelan vixen has been around for quite some time too, having started out in 2009. As the years have rolled by, Julianna has established a firm fanbase. Despite her standing in the industry, Julianna has been involved in a fair few controversies over the years. She’s certainly not the quiet, mellow type. Her last fight was at the start of last year. She suffered the third loss of her career. She hasn’t been back in the octagon since. That’s because in October 2017, Julianna announced her pregnancy.

She’s not expected to get back in the octagon anytime soon.

In January of this year, having spent a year out of action, Julianna welcomed her baby girl, Issa Cruz into the world. The fighter hasn’t been able to stop gushing about her newborn. Her social media pages are filled with pics of Julianna and her happy family. She’s loving this new chapter of her life. But after giving birth, her focus is already on making a comeback. She’s targeting a return to the octagon sometime this year. Before the year is up she wants to be challenging for titles again.

16 Taken Off: Caroline Wozniacki

via theknotnews.com

The sporting and celebrity world was pretty shocked when Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy announced that they’d broken off their engagement. The two seemed very happy together and it appeared that everything was going swimmingly. But then all of a sudden, it was announced that they’d split. The split was all Rory’s doing. Apparently sending out invitations to their wedding freaked him out. Things got very real very quickly and it was all too much for him. He was having problems living the red-carpet lifestyle, something that Caroline took to with ease. They broke things off. Caroline was distraught. It did mean though that Caroline was back on the market.

One individual got in there and swooped her off her feet. Early last year, it was revealed that Caroline was in a relationship with ex NBA pro, David Lee. She broke the news on social media. Things have progressed fast for the couple. They’re now engaged, and wedding preparations are in full swing, although there’s no set date as of yet. David Lee has proven to be a lucky charm for Caroline. She won her first Grand Slam title earlier this year. She also regained her spot at the top of the world rankings.

15 Back On: Garbine Muguruza

Miércoles/ Wednesday @voguespain #7dias/7looks #7days/7looks #myFashionWeek 🍸

A post shared by Garbiñe Muguruza (@garbimuguruza) on

At 24 years old, Garbine Muguruza has already established herself as one of the leading ladies in the tennis world. She burst onto the scene in 2012. It wasn’t long before she was starting to make a name for herself. In 2016 she won her first Grand Slam title, the French Open. The following year she added Wimbledon to her list of achievements. She managed to achieve her career high ranking of number one in the world at the end of 2017. Things have been going swimmingly for Garbine on the court. Things have been going pretty well for her off it too. She’s one of game’s leading ladies when it comes to endorsements too.

Garbine is beautiful, has the talent and personality, and that’s meant she’s acquired numerous endorsement deals.

You’d expect that would mean she wouldn’t be short of attention on the boy’s front. But Garbine has been pretty quiet about that aspect of her life. She’s not one to flaunt any relationships, posts pics of herself with guys on social media and whatnot. That’s not her style. Of course, there’ve been rumors floating about of her dating this or that guy. But not anything substantial. Garbine is very much on the market.

14 Taken Off: Carli Lloyd

via today.com

Carli Lloyd is a 35-year-old American soccer midfielder. She’s regarded as being one of the best midfielders in the world. The fact that she’s been capped over 250 times by her home nation and has been a permanent fixture of the international team over the past decade, is testimony to that. She’s received a ton of individual and team awards and is still going strong, even though she’s in her mid-30s. Carli hasn’t only received a ton of attention for her style of play on the soccer field. In a team full of beautiful women, Carli still stands out. She’s regarded as being one of the best-looking women in soccer. It’s resulted in a lot of attention, endorsement contracts, modeling gigs, etc.

Carli is a highly desirable woman. But ease up folks, she’s off the market. She’s not single and isn’t ready to mingle. That’s because she’s a married woman. She was taken off the market in 2016. Carli got hitched to Brian Hollins in Mexico in November 2016. Carli is pretty quiet about her private life, but there haven’t been any dramas. We can therefore assume that the duo have been happily married ever since. She’s off the market. That doesn’t mean you can’t dream.

13 Became A Mom: Serena Williams

#beingSerena @hbo

A post shared by Serena Williams (@serenawilliams) on

Serena Williams is arguably the greatest female athlete of all time. If there was one way to measure success, measure dominance across different sports, Serena would almost certainly be somewhere near the top, if not top that list. What she’s done in the sport of tennis is just ridiculous. Her continued dominance, the number of Grand Slams she’s won is just mind-boggling. The rest of the WTA draw must have breathed a collective sigh of relief when Serena announced she was pregnant and would be taking some time off. It gave someone else a chance. She made the announcement in 2017. She’d just won the Australian Open for a record seventh time. Then she dropped a bomb by announcing she was eight weeks pregnant at the time of winning the event. Serena subsequently stopped playing but announced her intentions to come back after the event.

She gave birth in September 2017 to her daughter named Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.

After giving birth, Serena suffered a pulmonary embolism. This meant she was bed-ridden for six weeks. It meant it delayed her return to the court. Slowly but surely, Serena is getting back. Because she’s such a phenomenal athlete, we can assume it won’t take her long to get back on tour, get back to winning ways.

12 Back On: Nicola Adams

via independent.co.uk

Nicola Adams is a British female boxer. She’s done a whole lot for women’s boxing, not just in Great Britain, but around the world, for the sport in general. She won gold in her home Olympics at London 2012, and that’s when her career really took off. Nicola was propelled into the limelight and her career hasn’t been the same since. She’s gone from strength to strength in the ring, is the undisputed queen of the ring in the flyweight division.

Not only has Nicola done a lot for women’s boxing, she’s also done a tremendous amount for the LGBT community. Nicola Adams is bisexual. At the height of her fame, she was one of the most influential people of the LGBT community in the UK. A couple of years ago she announced she was in a relationship with a woman, another boxer named Marlen Esparza. They got engaged in the romantic setting of London’s Shard at Christmas 2016. But 16 months later, we learnt that they’d split. The wedding had been called off. That’s because Marlen revealed that she was in love with a man, her personal trainer named Frank. In a cruel twist of fate, Nicola was dumped, and is back on the market. Marlen though, plans to wed Frank this summer.

11 Taken Off: Elena Delle Donne

❤️❤️ My Forever Valentine! 😍😘@de11edonne

A post shared by Amanda Clifton (@mandaclif) on

Elena Delle Donne is another highly successful and influential figure in the world of women’s sports. She’s a role model to many, and that’s not just because of her accomplishments on the basketball court. She’s enjoyed a tremendous amount of success in the WNBA. She’s also a lesbian and is very vocal when it comes to LBGT rights. Elena also does a lot of charity work, speaks out on a range of issues and is generally just a strong, fierce woman. She’s also a very attractive woman. All you guys out there can dream, but it’s never going to happen.

She’s been in a long-term relationship with a woman called Amanda Clifton.

In August 2016, she announced that she and Amanda had gotten engaged. Over a year later, at the back end of last year, they made things official and tied the knot. The duo have been enjoying marital bliss ever since. They’re a seriously cute couple and don’t shy away from sharing their relationship on social media platforms. Elena’s very happy about being off the market because she’s finally settled down with her long-time love. A lot of Elena Delle Donne fans might not be too overjoyed though.

10 Back On: Candace Parker

via tennesseealumnusmagazine.com

Candace Parker is one of the most iconic female basketball players around. She currently plays for the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA but has applied her trade around the world. Part of the attraction for teams is that she’s a highly versatile player. Candace can play in many different positions, although for the Sparks, she tends to play power forward or center. At the age of 32, Candace is still going strong.

Candace Parker is someone who could have featured under a couple of sections on this list. She’s also a mom, became a mom when she gave birth to her daughter in 2009. Her career’s gone from strength to strength after giving birth. Her daughter acted as that extra incentive to take her career to the next level. Candace had her daughter with her husband at the time, Shelden Williams. But things didn’t work out between the two. They stayed married for eight years, but then split due to that commonly used phrase, irreconcilable differences. They’d been living separately for some time before they made their separation official. So, Candace is back on the market, although one feels she’s only got time for one person in her life – her daughter.

9 Became A Mom: Sydney Leroux

Tupac and Aaliyah came through for 90’s night.

A post shared by Sydney Leroux Dwyer (@sydneyleroux) on

I know I’ve said this quite a few times on this list in reference to a number of athletes, but Sydney Leroux really is one of the most popular athletes on the planet. The USA soccer team is renowned for decimating other teams but also for its glamorous beautiful players. Even amongst her team of beautiful athletes, Sydney shines. People only have eyes for her when she’s out on the pitch exerting her craft. Sydney knows what she’s doing and is unapologetic about it. So long as she’s not harming anyone, and is attracting people to the game of women’s soccer, who cares? Someone who might care is her hubby, and her son when he grows up.

You can bet young Cassius Cruz Dwyer will be squirming when he views his mom in such a light.

At the moment, Cassius is just one years old. Sydney had him with Dom Dwyer, an English-born MLS player.

The two began dating in 2014, got married in 2015, and had their baby a year later. Things have progressed quickly for the couple. We know a whole lot about their seemingly perfect lives due to their activity on social media. Sydney is now back on the soccer field after taking time off during her pregnancy. She plays for Orlando Pride based in Florida.

8 Taken Off: Danica Patrick

via usmagazine.com

Danica Patrick has long been regarded as being one of the most beautiful athletes in her sport. She’s also one of the most influential athletes around the sporting world full stop. She’s done a tremendous amount for women’s sport, for women in the field of motor racing. She’s proven she can hold her own in a male-dominated sport, and thrive, achieve success where others have faltered. Her career’s nearing to a close. Danica’s ready to begin the next chapter of her life. What that is we’ll soon find out. One thing’s for sure, she’s going to be spending more time with family, on her relationships.

Danica hasn’t had too much success when it comes to relationships in the past. The pioneer of women’s motorsport has had a string of failed relationships. She was once married to her physical therapist. Danica then had a relationship with a fellow racing driver.

She’s currently in a high-profile relationship with NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers. They began dating a couple of months ago and have been together ever since. Judging by pictures of them together they seem very much loved up. Aaron’s going to be in Danica’s corner during her last moments on the racing circuit. She’s off the market now. When she retires, they’re either going to grow closer or be sick of the sight of each other. Only time will tell.

7 Back On: Victoria Azarenka

📷 with 👑 🦁 ❤️

A post shared by Victoria Azarenka (@vichka35) on

Victoria Azarenka is a woman who divides opinion. There’s no doubting her tennis ability. The Belarussian is a Grand Slam champion and used to head the women’s rankings. But she wasn’t the most popular player on tour. Although people respected her, what she’s achieved, her unique, let’s say quirky and often annoying mannerisms, alienated a lot of people. But Victoria’s a headstrong woman, wasn’t going to change her game for anybody. Even those who may not necessarily be fans of her wouldn’t wish what she’s been going through in recent years on their worst enemies.

Victoria Azarenka is another crossover on this list. She could have featured in two categories. In recent years she became a mom. But she’s very much single. She’s been in a high-profile relationship with Red Foo. That fizzled out. Then she began dating Billy McKeague. Last year she gave birth to a son, Leo, with him. But the couple split and what ensued afterwards was pretty nasty. They were involved in a bitter custody battle which if reports are to be believed, Victoria won earlier this year. She’s still single, has been putting all of her focus into her son, keeping him with her. She’s back on the market, although probably won’t be looking to get back on the dating scene anytime soon.

6 Taken Off? Lindsey Vonn

via nypost.com

Although it may not seem like it, Lindsey Vonn isn’t at comfort living the red-carpet lifestyle. She’s pretty shy, doesn’t feel at ease living life in the limelight. She probably didn’t expect to do so when she started out alpine skiing. She couldn’t have envisaged becoming the global sporting superstar she currently is. But it wasn’t long before her popularity really began to take off and she became a global phenomenon.

As her popularity increased, Lindsey became one of the most desirable women in the world. The alpine skier has had a number of high profile relationships over the years. She was once married. In 2007 Lindsey married fellow American skier, Thomas Vonn. But her most high-profile relationship by far was when she was dating superstar golfer Tiger Woods. They got together at a charity event and were dating for a couple of years before things fizzled out. She’s also dated Alexander Ludwig and Kenan Smith. At the time of this year’s Winter Olympics, Lindsey was very much single, was putting all of her focus into her last Olympic Games. But now, although nothing’s been confirmed by the duo, it seems as if Lindsey’s been taken off the market.

There are plenty of rumors floating about that Lindsey is with Nashville Predators defenseman P.K. Subban.

TerezOwens.com was the first with the story. Remember there’s very rarely smoke without fire. If they are indeed dating, they’d be the new power couple of the sporting world.

5 Became A Mom: Kerri Walsh Jennings

via: thesitsgirls.com

What Kerri Walsh Jennings has done during the course of her sporting career has just been remarkable. She’s had a long and illustrious career in beach volleyball. Due to her achievements, a great number of people recognize her as being one of the greatest beach volleyball players of all time. The American athlete has been around competing since the early 2000s. What’s remarkable is that at the age of 39, she’s still as hungry as ever. She hasn’t slowed down and is still going strong. What’s even more remarkable is that Kerri’s popped out three kids during the course of her career.

For a lot of female athletes, having one kid is enough to make them take stock of their careers, of their lives, and reevaluate things. A lot of athletes stop completely, or at least slow down after having a kid. Kerri has done nothing of the sort. Becoming a mom has only spurred her on, has made her want to achieve more success for the sake of her kids. Baby number one was quickly followed by another, then baby number three in 2013. Kerri was actually pregnant with her third child while competing at the London 2012 Olympics. That says a whole lot about her love for her sport.

4 Back On: Michelle Jenneke

via decider.com

For a woman of her age, Michelle Jenneke has already made quite an impression on the athletics’ circuit. The 24-year-old is a hurdler hailing from Down Under. She’s gained a ton of attention over the years, and not just because of her prowess as an athlete on the track. It was at London 2012 when her popularity really took off. Michelle became famed for her warm-up dance. That cute, cheeky little jig made Michelle into a global phenomenon. She’s built upon that popularity over the years and has certainly made the most of all the opportunities that have come her way. Forget her sporting career for a sec – Michelle’s a model in her own right. She’s had numerous modeling gigs, and her pics have led to people talking about her as one of the most beautiful, desirable athletes in the world.

Michelle’s also a pretty open character. But despite being open, she remains pretty quiet when it comes to her private life.

For a woman who seemingly basks in the limelight, she’s very much on the market; there’s no news of any special man or woman in her life. But we can’t imagine that she’ll have her single status for long though. Someone’s bound to sweep her off her feet.

3 Taken Off: Allison Stokke

A week for the books! 🙌🏼🐦

A post shared by Allison Stokke (@allisonstokke) on

And the beautiful athletes on this list just keep on coming. Allison is a lot like Michelle Jenneke in terms of how her career suddenly took off. But they both had very different ways of handling their newfound popularity. Michelle has remained quiet about certain aspects of her private life. Otherwise she’s embraced it. One feels she revels being in the limelight. Why else would she do that dance? Just look at her smile – she knew what she was doing. Allison received tons of popularity simply for being beautiful. The American pole vaulter was just doing her thing, was simply going about her business back in 2007. She was still a teenager looking to make it in athletics. Then people started clicking her pics and her popularity grew exponentially. People were suddenly talking about Allison as being one of the most beautiful athletes in the world. This unsought attention made Allison feel uncomfortable. She wasn’t thrilled about being looked at, spoken about in that way. But eventually she began to get used to it. But she still probably finds the media coverage about her personal life, about her relationship, a hindrance.

She couldn’t have expected anything different when she started a relationship with 2018 Masters golf runner-up Rickie Fowler. They’ve been with each other for around a year now, and things look to be progressing swimmingly for the duo.

2 Back On: Cat Zingano

via mmafighting.com

Cat Zingano is an American MMA competitor who applies her trade in the UFC. Throughout the course of her career she’s put together a pretty decent record. However, in recent years, there hasn’t been anything to shout about. She’s suffered three straight losses which have put her career back a long way. But Cat has other things to focus on. Because of what she’s gone through in life, her success in the octagon isn’t what defines her. Sure, it’s a big part of her life, but she’s got other more important things she focusses on.

Cat is another woman who could have been under two sections of this list. She has a son named Brayden.

In fact, Cat was the first mom to compete in the UFC. Nowadays there are a whole host of mothers competing in the UFC. Cat’s a mom and she’s back on the market. But she’s not back on the market because she split from a boyfriend or went through a divorce or anything like that. Cat is actually a widow. Tragically her husband Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Mauricio Zingano died in 2014. He committed suicide. The duo had been married for four years. Although she’s back on the market, Cat may still not be ready to mingle quite yet. The emotions are still likely to be very raw.

1 Became A Mom: Jennie Finch

via streeetchypants.com

Jennie Finch is ranked as one of the greatest softball players of all time. She’s done a tremendous amount for the sport. She’s even represented her country in softball at various events, including the 2004 Athens Olympic Games in which she brought home a gold medal. Aside from the medals, Jennie has various records and other accomplishments in the game. She’s also been a guest manager and has made numerous media appearances over the years. Jennie is a role model to many young girls who want to take up the sport. She’s an inspiration to female athletes in general. She achieved such a massive amount of popularity without having to partake in racy modeling shoots. She’s stayed true to her values, her strong Christian faith, and of wanting to be a role model to others and has refrained from doing such shoots.

She married Casey Daigle back in 2005. They’ve been strong ever since. The duo have a couple of sons and a daughter together. Her last baby came into this world in 2013. To us outsiders looking in, Jennie seems to have the perfect family life. Whatever the future holds for her she’s going to have the support of her hubby and three kids.
