The Winter Olympics are now in the rearview mirror, giving the world four more years to actually care about figure skating. Don’t get us wrong, the men and women on the ice are absolutely amazing, hitting monstrous triple axles, spinning faster than a tornado, and elegantly gliding into the hearts of the nation with their amazing outfits. These elegant costumes are splattered with sequins, glitter, feathers, and other flamboyant materials, usually leaving little to the imagination. As a result, that can lead to some wardrobe bloopers that only make it more difficult for these ice dancers to focus on their routine and try to recover enough so the audience doesn't start just paying attention to the mishap. It just goes to show you how talented these skaters are, that they're able to somehow recover and go on with their routine.

Sometimes, the imaginative outfits just fall victim to the twists and turns of the skater's rigorous routines. Let's take a look into a few occasions where these athletes shared more than they wanted to with the crowd, and to viewers at home. It’s time to fire the wardrobe designer and discover 15 times ice dancers suffered unfortunate mishaps involving their costumes.

15 Katarina Witt's Blue Dress

We start off our list with the beautiful East German figure skater, Katarina Witt. In the past, we've talked about her infamous stalker and how the secret police were following her every move, but it's her skimpy blue dress at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary that revealed a little too much!

The two-time Olympic gold medalist headed on to the ice in a frilly blue get-up, putting on a show for viewers around the world, and leaving very little to the imagination. Witt's outfit was so racy, that it led the ISU to change their rules, forcing females to wear modest clothing that covered their hips, glutes, and groin area. The four-time World Champion was an absolute thrill on the ice, but definitely pushed the limits of her wardrobe with that dress!

14 Shibutani Rips Tights

Let's had back to Sochi in 2014 for brother and sister ice dancing pair, Alex and Maia Shibutani. Widely regarded as one of the top competitors, the American's efforts hit a snag, literally. While the brother lifted his sister, the black sequins on his jacket became tangled in the black sequins of her dress. The couple was stuck and struggled to break-free. Eventually, they managed to get loose, but Maia's tights were left ripped to shreds!

Despite the unfortunate malfunction, the Shibutani's pushed through it, coming in at a respectable ninth-place in Russia. Four years later, they had their revenge, as the sibling duo managed to sneak onto the podium, grabbing a bronze in PyeongChang. Needless to say, their outfits were not plastered with sequins this time.

13 Nora Hoffmann Suffers Malfunction

Two-time Hungarian national champion ice dancer, Nora Hoffman, suffered an unfortunate outfit slip during the 2010 ISU Grand Prix in Beijing. Her male partner, Maxim Zavozin, took her arm and spun her in a circle around the ice, but the speed of the spin was too much for her flimsy dress. Like a centrifuge, the spaghetti strap slipped down under the immense force, leaving Hoffmann exposed. She continued the rest of the routine 'supporting' herself, hoping that nothing else would pop out.

Obviously, the entire situation is extremely embarrassing for the Hungarian ice dancer, but come on, what else would you expect from a skimpy outfit? I have a feeling these skaters need to have a long talk with their stylists before they hit the ice, and end up revealing a little too much!

12 Tessa Virtue's Suggestive Routine

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are the king and queen of the ice dancing world. They are two-time Olympic gold medalists, three-time world champions, and Virtue even was Team Canada's flag-bearer during the opening ceremonies in PyeongChang. Their combination of skill, talent, and chemistry makes the pair absolutely electric on the ice. Some will say even a little too electric!

During the 2018 Winter Olympics, the pair took home the gold with their sensual routine that was akin to a "late night" movie. The romantic performance led many viewers to believe that the couple was definitely hooking up off the ice. Just look at their faces!  Clearly, ice dancing is meant to exemplify love and romance in the art of figure skating, but that routine left viewers hot and sweaty! Whether the rumor is true or the two are just the best at their craft, that routine was definitely not rated PG.

11 The German Pink Panther

Not all ice dancers need to have a strap slip or nasty wardrobe malfunction to reveal a little too much. German Duo, Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy, took the world by storm back at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi as they waltzed around the ice to their "Pink Panther" program. Savchenko donned a full body, hot pink catsuit, hugging her curves ever so gently. The front was bedazzled with rhinestones, while the back was left completely open, revealing the German beauty's ripped physique.

Despite the eye-popping outfit, the five-time European Champions came up short of the gold in Russia, but performed well enough to grab the bronze. Still, Savchenko's bright spandex costume was one of the highlights of the games! I'm sure the pink panther would be proud!

10 Katelyn Osmond Fall

Rounding out the top ten is not an ice dancer at all, but a figure skater. For those of you unaware of the difference, figure skating is more about technicality and aerials, while ice dancing is more about chemistry and lifts. To use an analogy, just think about the difference between Simone Biles' floor routine in artistic gymnastics compared to some Eastern European girl dancing twirling a ribbon around the mat in rhythmic gymnastics.  I think you get the point.

Anyway, with the immense difficulty of jumping, spinning, and landing perfectly on one skate, figure skating has some of the worst wipeouts in sports. Canadian skater, Kaetlyn Osmond, took a tumble in Sochi, sliding across the ice on her stomach. Luckily, she recovered in PyeongChang, grabbing a bronze medal, while the dominant competitors from Russia, took home silver and gold.

9 Carolina Kostner fall

We move onto another unfortunate fall with the five-time European Champion, Italian figure skater Carolina Kostner. Early in her career, during the 2005 European Championships, she took a nasty spill during her short-program, landing right onto her butt with her legs up in the air.  The fall left Kostner exposed with one thin piece of fabric saving her from a 'Lindsay Lohan leaving a limo' moment.

Perhaps this wipeout left a lasting impression on the Italian figure skater, as she probably used that embarrassment and fear to fuel her success in the following decade. She ended up winning the World Championships in 2012 and took home the bronze medal two years later at the Olympics in Sochi.  Fortunately, most people will remember Kostner for her dominance on the ice, not her revealing fall!

8 Kim K Lookalike

Wait, what? Is that Kim K gliding across the ice in South Korea? While that may be the fantasy of some Kardashian fans, this steamy figure skater is Gabrielle Daleman of Canada. In PyeongChang, she helped Canada bring home the gold in the team event, but it was her looks that caught the eyes of viewers, many deeming her the 'long-lost Kardashian sister.'

While the 20-year-old athlete understands the celebrity comparisons, she also wants fans to know that it was her talent, not her beauty, that got her to the Olympic stage. She told ESPN in an interview:

"I worked my butt off incredibly hard these past four years to get on this team."

Daleman's talents were proven on the ice, and we can't help but think that comment was a direct shot at Kim K, since working your 'butt off' is the complete opposite of a Kardashian!

7 The Germans Overcome

We head back again to German ice dancer, Aliona Savchenko, of "Pink Panther" fame (see number eleven). This time, the figure skater is competing with a different partner, Bruno Massett. Back in 2016, the pair won the short program at the Trophee de France, but not without a little wardrobe complication.

During the routine, the zipper on the side of Savchenko's dress came undone, but like a champion, she continued to skate unfazed by her misfortune. The German skater laughed at the incident afterwards, telling the media...

"There needs to be a problem with something. I just hoped through the end that my dress would not drop before the end of the program!"

What a true professional!

6 Asada Spins Into Another Dimension

In a list filled with revealing exposures, suggestive routines, and unfortunate wipeouts, it's Japanese skater, Mao Asada, that revealed one of the funniest faces in figure skating of all-time. During her short-program in Sochi in 2014, the camera caught Asada at the perfect moment, using every ounce of her energy to spin through the air. I don't think there is even a word to describe the ridiculous look on her face!

The Queen of the triple Axel fell during this portion of the team event, but her difficulty propelled her to an individual third, while Japan ended up in fifth overall. The three-time World Champion and 2010 Olympic silver medalist may look like she's being abducted by aliens, but this revealing moment is just a blip in her otherwise storied career!

5 Tonya Harding's Shoelaces

Everyone should know Tonya Harding's story by now, but it's not her twisted involvement with Nancy Kerrigan that rounds out our top five revealing moments on the ice. Many people forget, but while the Kerrigan incident was being investigated, Harding competed in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, even though viewers were well-aware of the situation. All eyes were on her as she took to the ice.

As her routine began, everything seemed to be going fine, but all of the sudden, she stopped and started crying on the ice! Why? Over a shoelace! That's right, the figure skater glided over to the judges, exclaiming her shoelace was too short, and it needed to be replaced before continuing the program. One of the moments that defined Harding's career was her breaking down in front of millions of viewers as someone changed her shoelace. I think we know the rest of the story after that!

4 Watch Your Hand Man!

We head to another figure skating pair from Canada, Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford.  Once at the top of the skating world, the veteran duo failed to make an impact on the ice in the 2017 World Championships, only coming in seventh place. Despite some mediocre performances, they helped Canada to a team gold in PyeongChang, and took home the bronze in the pairs competition.

Okay, so what's so revealing about Duhamel and Radford? Well, it's not the pair themselves, but the nature of pair figure skating. More specifically: the lifts. While there is a multitude of lifting techniques, sometimes, the male partner's hand can slip a little too low, holding his female partner by the 'you know what.' I guess it's just all part of the sport, but I'm sure a lot of these pairs have had some off-the-ice tension because of it!

3 Yura Min Breaks A Strap

South Korean ice dancers, Yura Min and Alexander Gamelin (yes, somehow he competed for South Korea), made their Olympic debut on their home ice during the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. Filled with nerves, the pair started their routine, but disaster was looming in the arena. Min's red backing to her outfit snapped, leaving her sleeves as the only support for her dress. Having to change her skating style to avoid an embarrassing slip, Min kept her shoulders elevated to prevent further slippage, finishing the routine without exposing more than she desired.  After the program, she told the Detroit Free Press...

“I was like, ‘Oh no!’ If that comes undone, the whole thing could just pop off. I was terrified the entire program.”

Unfortunately, the Korean pair fell to 18th out of 20 competitors. The 22-year-old Min and 25-year-old Gamelin may have squandered their first Olympics, but we hope at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, they move past the malfunction and compete for the podium!

2 Rubleva Reveals All

Russian ice dancer, Ekaterina Rubleva, may not be famous for her dominance on the ice, but she surely is infamous for a revealing wardrobe malfunction.  Alongside her partner, Ivan Shefer, the skater competed in the 2009 European Championships in a spaghetti strapped, bedazzled pink dress with a feathered skirt. Unfortunately, the spinning and twisting on the ice was too much for the skimpy outfit, causing one of the straps to break, revealing Rubleva's assets to the world!

Although embarrassing, the Russian exuded the grace and elegance of a seasoned veteran.  Without skipping a beat, she kept her composure, adjusting her outfit, then continuing on with the program. Despite the malfunction, the pair finished in a respectable eighth-place out of 29 competitors. Rubleva truly exemplified the professionalism of a champion!

1 Pardon My French

While putting together this figure skater list, Rubleva's dress slip came to mind to take the number one spot. But, during the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, French ice dancer Gabriella Papadakis, revealed way too much during her short program. Competing with her partner, Guillaume Cizeron, just a few moments into their routine, Papadakis's dress snapped at the back of the neck, exposing her breast to millions of viewers across the world.

Despite the revealing wardrobe malfunction, the French pair managed to finish the routine in second-place behind the Canadian powerhouse duo of Viture/Moir. Still, bringing home the silver wasn't retribution for Papadakis, as she looked absolutely devastated by the unwanted exposure. She stated in her post-skate press conference that...

“My worst nightmare happened at the Olympics. I felt it right away and I prayed, that’s all I could do."

That's it for the list. Hopefully, one of their wardrobe stylists comes across this and learns a few lessons!
