Former announcer Jim Ross recently spoke with Busted Open about the upcoming Samoa Joe versus Brock Lesnar match that is set to take place at the Great Balls of Fire pay per view on July 9th. In Ross' own words, he emphatically stated, "I believe Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar is going to be a classic."
His reasoning is simple. Both are alpha male characters who will be primed and ready to tear into each other with ferocity and strength that hasn't been seen in the WWE in years, maybe ever. Ross went on to further explain that just the locks up alone would be enough to make a lesser wrestler leave wrestling school.
As a result, Ross doesn't want to miss the opportunity to be a part of what he thinks might be wrestling history, but also a match he just badly wants to see in person. Ross couldn't seem to get past the fact that Samoa Joe blocked a double-leg takedown attempt by Lesnar. To Ross, it was a feat matched by no man. As such, like a true wrestling fan who marked out for his favorite moment, Ross said:
"I believe it's going to be a great match, ya know, I've lobbied to call it, like a goof. I will 'Talk for food.' From Oklahoma to Dallas, I can be there in two and half hours... If you're a broadcaster and you can go do that fight? You're damn right! I'm in!"
Whether or not Ross's lobbying actually turns into anything remains to be seen, but the idea of that element added to what is already going to be an interesting matchup would give Samoa Joe versus Brock Lesnar that "big fight" feel that it deserves.
