When people have money because of their profession they may do crazy things. For example, they may buy some nice cars, nice houses and maybe even buy a private jet for themselves. Same goes for athletes when they have money playing their sport. Some athletes buy crazy things and weird things too which is what this article is about. Some people athletes and non-athletes spend all their money they make on things they don't even need. Some athletes find themselves even going bankrupt because of the things they buy. When athletes make as much as they do though, it's hard to fault certain purchases. After all, anybody who gets paid six or seven figured might make some off the wall purchases that others would never even dream of doing.

In this article, you will see athletes who buy some really weird things. From shark tanks all the way to dangerous animals. It also makes the average person think what would they do if they had a lot of money. Sure, we all have some strange dreams of what we would do if we had X amount of dollars. It's only human nature. But how far would the average person go with a purchase. Would you buy a tiger? Or would you go buy a huge mansion? Again you will also see in this list athletes find themselves in strange situations because of the things they purchased when they had millions of dollars.

25 Novak Djokovic - Donkey Cheese

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic allegedly bought the entire world's supply of donkey cheese. Also, it's supposed to be the most expensive cheese in the world. It was first reported that Djokovic purchased the only Serbian donkey farm where the cheese can be made. Djokovic would deny that he bought the entire world's supply of cheese.

He stated he tasted the cheese and was going to open a series of chain restaurants in Serbia.

In 2013 Djokovic told the Capital "It is not completely true that we bought the whole supply of donkey cheese, even though it is the first time in my life that I heard that donkey cheese exists, There is a certain farm in Serbia that produces this donkey cheese and, as I understand it, it is the only farm in the world, which is very interesting. They came to our restaurant and they offered the operation." Needless to say, it's still a weird purchase.

24 Ellis Coleman - "Flying Squirrel"

US Olympic wrestler Ellis Coleman bought a flying squirrel prior to the beginning of the 2012 London Olympics. He purchased the animal because it matched his nickname the "flying squirrel."  The squirrel's name is Rocky and it cost Coleman $500. He feeds the squirrel apples and keeps it in a cage. Coleman said back in 2012: "When he has fully bonded, I can put him in my pocket and pretty much take him wherever I want to go, I’m trying to bond with him and get on a higher level with him, but right now he bites me all the time.” Either way purchasing a squirrel is a weird purchase.

23 Mike Tyson - Bengals

Mike Tyson's weird purchase is a tiger. Mike Tyson bought a set of female Bengals for $140,000 and paid $4,000 a month after that in food a care for the animals. He in total has three Bengals each costing about $70,000 each. Tyson is scary without the Bengals and with the Bengals his scariness doubles. You would know not to mess with Mike Tyson.

Feeding just one bengal cost $60,000 annually.

However, if the tigers ever hurt someone the lawsuit would be a lot greater the just $60,000. A single tiger alone consumes about 40 pounds of meat per day. Either way, it's a weird purchase.

22 Darnell Dockett - Alligator

Darnell Dockett's weird purchase was an alligator. He would take to Twitter saying "I’m out here messing with these gators in everglades! This thing almost bit me!" The Arizona Cardinals lineman would buy an alligator for $500. Dockett bought the alligator named Nino in 2011. In 2014 Dockett bought another alligator named her Honey. He posted on Instagram that she would grow to 500 pounds. He currently doesn't play football and he now has all the time in the world to play with his alligators. That does sound like a weird and dangerous purchase.

21 Danny Granger - Bat Cave

Former Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger built a bat cave in his home. It's on this list because it's sure a different and weird purchase to do. Granger said at the time "I think when I build a house a couple years down the line, I was telling my fiancee I wanted to have — once again with the superhero thing — you know how Batman drives into a hidden cave? I’m serious. [The Superhero stuff] is just a big thing I’ve been a part of. I love Superman, love Batman. It’s just the way I’ve been always.”

Granger loves superheroes so he wanted a house with Batman all over it. I guess if you wanted some alone time you could go in the Bat Cave.

20 Marquis Daniels - Jeweled Headpiece Of Himself

Marquis Daniels spent 10 seasons in the NBA. He played for the Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers, Boston Celtics, and the Milwaukee Bucks. Daniels had a jeweled headpiece made out of himself.

It looks pretty cool and terrifying at the same time. It's three pounds of 13 karat gold.

It also has white and gold diamonds and lifelike eyes. The cost was not confirmed but honestly it looks very weird. He had a popular jeweller out of Beverly Hills make him the face of himself out of the diamonds. He would wear it as a necklace around his neck. Who would want to stare at that is beyond me.

19 Rollie Fingers - Pistachio Farms, Arabian Horses

Rollie Fingers retired in 1985 and also won three World Series Championships. He earned millions of dollars and had great assets. However, it wouldn't last long and filed for bankruptcy and an investment portfolio which were pistachio farms. Fingers then bought Egyptian Arabian horses for $225,000. Fingers couldn't make the payments, the bank took the horses and sold them for $5,000. Fingers definitely had lots of bad investments. Needless to say, these were some very interesting purchases for a former ballplayer.

18 Terrell Owens - Bingo Hall

Terrell Owens was one of the greatest wide receivers of all time. He will be inducted into the pro-Football Hall Of Fame this year (although he won't be at his induction). A weird and failed purchase of Terrell Owens was an Alabama Bingo Hall.

It was an entertainment complex that would eventually fail.

Owens lost $2 million in the failed business. The business also went against Alabama law. Either way, it was a pretty weird purchase for Terrell Owens.

17 J.R. Smith - Fast Five Truck

J.R. Smith's weird purchase put himself in debt with a jewelry company. He owed $50,000 to the jewelry company for a Jesus pendant. The purchase brought him to court because he wasn't paying the balance of what he owed. He's making a lot of money playing basketball but claimed he couldn't pay $50,000 for a piece of jewelry. He was court ordered to pay it back to the jewelry store. The store would sue him for $48,000. He also bought an armored truck used in the movie 'Fast Five'. The truck was worth $450,000. Smith buying an armored truck is quite weird but also pretty cool if you had that type of money to buy a truck from a movie.

16 Curt Schilling - 38Studios

Curt Schilling is very outspoken. Schilling would have a failed video game business in Rhode Island and cost the state thousands. Schilling weird purchase of the video game company 38Studios thought they were going to do well. However, it was the complete opposite and it would be a total fail. The former Red Sox pitcher would settle a lawsuit in 2015 valued at $25.6 million. Schilling has had a rough time since putting Rhode Island in debt. He's tried to build himself up a brand of different charities but some have failed. The most recent one leaving a trailer in Tennessee full of supplies that never made it to Hurricane victims in Houston.

15 Chad Johnson - $100,000 Truck

Chad Ochocinco had a decent career in the NFL, however, he did have some weird purchases. Ochocinco played eleven seasons in the NFL. Ten of those seasons was with the Bengals and one of those seasons with the New England Patriots.  One of those purchases was a truck for $100,000.

He would buy the truck for his 32nd birthday.

That is a weird way to spend your money. Ochocinco had a great career with the Cincinnati Bengals. Ochocinco would go to the Patriots and fail. Ochocinco loves attention and it's no surprise why he would buy a truck, for personal attention.

14 Michael Vick - $85,000 Fish Pond

Michael Vick had it all being a quarterback in the NFL. He made the Pro-Bowl four times and was in the NFL for 13 seasons. He had lots of ups and downs in his NFL career, as well as his issues off the field. One of the weird purchases he would make was buying a fish pond in his backyard. He bought the fish pond for $85,000. Spending money on a fish pond seemed to be a shock. Vick bought the fish pond before he went to prison. Nice way to hide what he was really up to with his fighting dog ring.

13 Kobe Bryant - Champagne

Kobe Bryant one of the greatest basketball players of all time has made millions. Bryant in 2007 spent $21,000 on champagne at the Boutique Nightclub in Las Vegas. It was the grand opening and Bryant and his wife was going to make the best of it. Inside the club a poker player named Antonio, the Magician purchased two bottles for $1400. However, Kobe wasn't about to be beaten by some no-name poker player and wanted to out buy him. Kobe would purchase five bottles of the Cristal Champagne. Then Antonio would purchase ten bottles to out beat Kobe. However, Kobe would then up it to 15 bottles of the Cristal Champagne. Buying that much champagne could last a whole year and more.

12 DeShawn Stevenson - Personal ATM Machine

DeShawn Stevenson in 2012 bought an ATM inside his own home. According to Deadspin Stevenson was inspired by skateborder Rob Dyrdek who had one installed during his show called "Rob and Big" on MTV.

Stevenson paid $3,500 for installation for the ATM, it charges a $4.50 transaction fee which is insane and he also refills it with $20,000 in cash a few times a year.

How weird is that? I guess it's good if his friends come over and need cash for something and they don't have it on them. His friends would have to use it 775 times to be cost-effective. Stevenson has to pay a restocking fee so if he had friends with a lot of money it's smart but someone could come in a steal it also possibly.

11 Nelson Cruz - Fire Truck

Nelson Cruz grew up poor and when he made millions playing baseball he decided to purchase a fire truck. The fire truck was purchased in the Dominican Republic. He told the Forth- Worth Star-telegram at the time. "In my hometown we don't have ambulances or fire trucks, so I decided to buy one, It was yellow, so we had to paint it red." It is a weird purchase to buy a fire truck but if it's to give back to the poor neighborhood that he grew up in, it doesn't seem that bad. The American Medical Response which provides ambulance services in Arlington heard what Cruz was doing and decided to donate two ambulances.

10 Warren Sapp - Various Expenses

Warren Sapp was a good football player and Super Bowl Champion. However, he would declare bankruptcy and the things he spent money on were pretty weird. He had a collection of 240 pairs of Nike shoes. He also had watches the cheapest watch cost about $1,500 dollars. He also had a $1,200 bearskin rug, a painting that he paid a million dollars for and a pair of boxing gloves autographed by Muhammed Ali. Sapp made $82 million in his NFL career he ended up with $826 in his bank account when he was done.

9 Arian Foster - Segways For Teammates

Arian Foster back in 2012 bought his whole offensive line Segways for the Houston Texans. Foster explained his reasoning for the purchase: "I feel like all of them big hogs up front can enjoy the joy that I get from riding my Segway,  I would just rather ride wheels.' I saw a little jealousy in their eyes when they were talking about me, so I figured I’d get all the linemen a gift. They were very thankful, very grateful. I can’t do anything without them. If there is no them, there is no me."

Foster buying a Segway for himself is one thing but buying them for the whole offensive line is a bit strange.

What if they didn't want it? Not to mention, many NFL teams have now banned Segways from locker rooms.

8 Joe Johnson - Shoe Collection

Joe Johnson is one of those athletes that love shoes. He has a full collection of shoes in his house. I can see a couple a pairs of shoes but Johnson has thousands of shoes in his house. Johnson told ESPN the magazine about his collection in 2012 saying "I wanted to display all of my shoes, so I had this 500-square-foot closet made. I just thought this would be a cool idea, and it would almost look like a museum. I have 436 pairs of sneakers in here, and they're mostly unworn. I'll wear all of them eventually."

I don't think he'll wear them all out 436 pairs of sneakers is a lot of sneakers. He should really donate them to a good cause. There's no way he is going to wear all those shoes.

7 Gilbert Arenas - Shark Tank

Gilbert Arenas an accomplished basketball player really loves to spend his money. He bought a shark tank it costs up to $5,000 a month just to feed the sharks. He also has to pay an additional $1,500 just to have someone take care of them. That is a very weird purchase to first buy a shark tank, second, if you can't take care of them personally why pay someone over a grand to do it? I guess if you have the money to do it, then it doesn't matter. But like with everything the money does go by fast when you spend it. Arenas would put the $3.5 million home on the market and didn't take the shark tank with him wherever he was going.

6 Chris Johnson - Gold Teeth

Something Chris Johnson thing that was weird was having gold teeth. According to Cardinals.com Johnson was asked about his gold teeth calling it a culture thing. "It’s more of a culture thing. Where I come from, all the people that we looked up to when we were younger, those guys had gold teeth. It’s a thing in our culture, especially down south. A lot of my friends, a lot of people I grew up with have gold teeth."

Chris Johnson was known for two things in his professional career; his 2,000 yard season earning him the nickname CJ2K and his signature gold teeth.
