Top 15 Biggest Jerks In Recent Sports History

Of course, not all athletes are jerks. However, sports have more than their fair share of jerks. This is probably a result of being entitled, spoiled and having a huge ego. It is a shame because so many kids look up to these athletes as role models. I'm sure many athletes don't realize it but kids all around the world are hanging on their every word and decision that they make. Not only for the kid's sakes but for everyone's.

Athletes do jerky things all of the time. Of course, some players are jerks on the court or field, but it's more important when players are jerks off of the court because that reflects their true personality.

Since we haven't met any of the athletes on this list, we will be ranking them based off of what has been documented about them and what we have seen them do through the media. There are many stories of what these athletes have done and they don't sound like the nicest people.

In this article, we will be listing the top 15 modern day real life jerk athletes. We should point with this list that by jerks, we mean being jerks in the sense of having huge egos or sounding like someone you wouldn't want to hang out with. We won't be including some of the biggest scumbags, such as athletes accused of violent crimes or showing outward racism, sexism or anything of that nature. That goes beyond just being a jerk and will be included on different types of lists.

15 Kevin Durant

Sergio Estrada-USA TODAY Sports

About a year ago, as many of you know, Kevin Durant left the Thunder. This decision came as a huge surprise to us in the basketball world and it left Thunder fans with anger. Not only Thunder fans were angry with his decision, but so were his teammates and fans around the league. What type of friend abandons his brothers and join the team that they lost to in the conference finals. Durant said so many times that he only ever wanted to play in Oklahoma City and even tweeted, "Now everybody wanna play for the heat [sic] and the Lakers? Let's go back to being competitive and going at these peoples!" in 2010. He then proceeded to contradict himself later on by ditching his team for Golden State.

14 Jon Jones

Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

Jon Jones, like Kevin Durant, mostly lands on this list for being a hypocrite. Being that he's in an individual sport, Jones only has to worry about himself and not any teammates. However, Jones seems to project this false good guy image all the time, even though it's out of the bag by now that he has a huge ego and despite trying to project a good guy image, he has been busted for recreational drugs, and was involved in an infamous hit-and-run incident a couple of years ago. The incident resulted in him being stripped of his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.

The bottom line is, if Jones was simply more honest with who he is, then he probably wouldn't be as hated as he is.

13 Eli Manning

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

While Eli Manning has never done something dastardly off the field, he is involved in a memorabilia scandal. Manning is being prosecuted for selling fake game used memorabilia. Manning pretended that he was selling game worn items when in reality they have never seen a football field.

An e-mail was found in 2010 telling his equipment manager that his helmets could be passed as game used. What is all of this for, a few extra bucks tacked onto his $84 million contract? Probably and that is what makes him a jerk. Your fans don't deserve to be treated this way, Eli. They already had to watch you throw 27 interceptions in one season. That is very weak from someone who has so much money coming to him already.

12 LeSean McCoy

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

LeSean McCoy is a fan favorite on the field, but off of it is a whole another situation. McCoy has been known to make some noise off of the field. He has been in bar fights putting police officers in the hospital and gave a waiter a 2o cent tip. Yup, a millionaire leaving a 20 cent tip. On top of all of this, McCoy trashed his baby mother on twitter. He attacked her and called her "dumb, dirty and broke,' ... a bum, a waste of life." She had previously claimed that he didn't pay child support and gave her herpes.

LeSean is such a good player on the field that many people have overlooked this, but McCoy is easily one of the biggest jerks in the NFL.

11 Jonathan Papelbon

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Jonathan Papelbon is a world class jerk. Let's start with the infamous incident of him grabbing his privates in an obscene gesture.. Here is a bit of backstory: The Phillies were up 4-1 in the 9th inning. Papelbon came in for the save opportunity and he gave up four hits, one walk, and four runs which blew the save and the lead. The fans let him hear it and showered him with boos. As the inning ended, he walked toward the dugout and grabbed his crotch. He was immediately ejected, but Papelbon played dumb and said he was adjusting his cup but everyone knows the truth.

On another note, Papelbon has been in many fights with teammates but most notably, the one with Bryce Harper when they fought in the dugout. That is not a good look.

10 Greg Hardy

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

Greg Hardy is less of a jerk and more of a bad person, but I felt I had to put him on the list because of the terrible things he has done. Hardy assaulted his ex-girlfriend. He threw her onto a couch that was piled up with assault rifles and choked her and threatened to kill her. What a sweetheart. Hardy says he isn't sorry because he doesn't think he is guilty. He is sorrier for not showing up to meetings on time with the Cowboys, talking about teammates wives, and getting in arguments on the sidelines.

Hardy is a ticking time bomb and he needs to stay away from people because no matter what he says, he is a psychopath. Unsurprisingly, he has not received an offer in the NFL since.

9 Johnny Manziel

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Johnny Manziel hasn't gotten an offer from the NFL since being released by the Browns prior to the 2016 season and his downfall has been his own doing. First, he called up Browns GM Ray Farmer (now fired) before the draft asking to take him so he could help tear up the NFL. He then proceeded to not take his work seriously with the Browns and still had partying as his no.1 priority rather than working hard to be a successful NFL QB. There's nothing wrong with a young man having fun, but Manziel has always been obnoxious on social media and flaunts what a great time he's having.

Manziel tarnished his image so badly, that his marketing agency and two agents severed ties with him. Drew Rosenhaus fired Manziel, marking the first time in his long career he ever severed ties with an athlete.

8 Conor McGregor

Steve Flynn-USA TODAY Sports

When I think of a jerk in sports, I think of McGregor. He is constantly posting obnoxious videos all over social media and making questionable comments about his opponents. He once said it's going to be a "red panty" night for his opponent's wife. This is just one of the many comments that McGregor has made to make him out to be a jerk. On his most recent media tour, he and Floyd Mayweather have been on he has made a few racial remarks about his opponent and told Mayweather, "dance for me boy." Not to mention making fun of his outfit but also reminding everyone that Floyd can't read well. All in all, McGregor isn't a class act and he is about to be a father. I just hope he doesn't raise his child to be like himself.

7 Floyd Mayweather

Steve Flynn-USA TODAY Sports

Floyd Mayweather likes to tune up for fights on his own girlfriend (allegedly). He was sent to jail for 87 days in 2012 for domestic abuse. Mayweather has been in trouble with the law more than his fair share and was also sued for $20,000,000 for defamation. Much like McGregor, Mayweather posts obnoxious updates on social media. Floyd is constantly flaunting his wealth on Instagram posting his jet, cars, or anything else that he wants to show off. Although Mayweather does donate a small sum of his huge wealth to charity, he also spends it on stupid things like $1,000 haircuts two or three times per week. Mayweather acts like a kid with all of the money he has.

6 Evander Kane

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

Evander Kane is, by all accounts, perhaps the biggest jerk in the NHL. The NHL seems to have the nicest athletes (maybe because there are many Canadians) but Kane is definitely an exception. Like some others on this list, Kane can't seem to stay out of trouble and tends to wear out his welcome very fast with a team. Back when he was on the Winnipeg Jets, he would show up late to practice and his teammates even left his clothes soaked in the shower. Since being traded to Buffalo about a year and a half ago, the Sabres have tried to unload him on another team but haven't received offers.

That could be from Kane's negative locker room presence, the fact that he flaunted his money while hanging out in Vegas during a players lockout, or the fact he's faced multiple sexual assault allegations.

5 LeBron James

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

LeBron James has the biggest ego in the NBA. Let's start with, "The Decision." When LeBron was in his first stint with Cavs when his contract ran out, he had an important choice to make: stay with the Cavs or go somewhere else. Because he thinks so highly of himself, he decided to make an entire show about where he was going to play infamously telling everyone that he will be, "taking my talents to South Beach." Once he was on the Heat he said that he would win, "not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven." Just a bit arrogant, don't you think?

Fast forward a few years and he still is the same arrogant guy. Just listen to this quote, when asked about his team in the 2015 finals he answered with, "I feel confident because I'm the best player in the world. It's that simple." That didn't quite answer the question.

4 Kobe Bryant

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Kobe Bryant was a great player, but a total jerk. Kobe constantly had feuds with teammates. He couldn't even get along with Shaq when they were winning. But here is the kicker. Kobe once sucker punched his teammate Samaki Walker in the face over 100 bucks. Not only did he punch him, but when Walker wanted to fight back, Kobe backed down. About a week later, Kobe punched Reggie Miller.

This isn't even the worst of it, however. In 2003, Kobe allegedly raped a 19-year-old woman at a hotel. He denied and denied raping the young woman, but he admitted having sex with her but he said it was consensual. Regardless, he was married at the time. People have tended to forget this due to their respect for Kobe's accomplishments.

3 Terrell Owens

via foxsports.com

Terrell Owens was never mature enough for the amount of fame and attention he received. Whatever team he was on, he would stir up drama. No doubt, he was one of the most talented receivers in the game, but he was never a good teammate. This is one of the main reasons he isn't a first ballot Hall of Famer, and why he played for 6 NFL teams and 1 Indoor football league team throughout his career. He turned into a journeyman because he was a locker room cancer. Nowadays, Owens is his same old self; not showing up to visit sick kids, trying to join Ice Cube's Big 3 league and more. Oh, and he's flat broke. You wonder if he'll ever fully learn from his past transgressions.

2 Tiger Woods

Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

Tiger Woods is such a good example of jerks in sports. I haven't been sure about Tiger ever since the whole fiasco with his wife. Since then I have been proven correct about my feelings about Tiger. He cheated so many times on his wife that you can't even count. After their breakup, he went to a sex addiction clinic. Then most recently in the news, he was drugged up on prescription drugs and got pulled over for DUI and crashed his car. Woods needs to get his life together because things are getting out of hand for him.

Woods' ex coach Hank Haney wrote a little about Tiger in his recent book, The Big Miss and explained some of his feelings about his ex-student. "He doesn't try to be a jerk. He just doesn't get it," Haney said. "There is a price for greatness. I think that comes across in the book."

1 Alex Rodriguez

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

Alex Rodriguez is a cheater and a liar. He used steroids for years and denied using them for just as long. A-Rod even admitted it. When talking to kids, he told them what he thinks about his past. He told them that he made a huge mistake and then doubled down on it. But this to me sounds like he is trying to get people back on his side and I'm not falling for it. A-Rod did more than just cheat in baseball, he also cheated on his wife and left his family to be with other women.

He is the poster child for egotistical athletes who think they can get away with anything because they are a star on the field. I think just about everyone is tired of Alex Rodriguez these days.
