The sports world is full of classy, down to earth and accommodating people. They are the type of people that you want your kids to look up to as role models. Take Roger Federer for example. He is the epitome of class and has managed to stay down to earth despite the fact that he will probably go down as the greatest tennis player of all time. Another good example is Sidney Crosby. He has his detractors for his demeanor on the ice, but when it comes to his mannerisms off the ice, he is the perfect ambassador for the game of hockey. He's been in the league since the age of 18, and there has not been one story of him misbehaving. But wouldn't it be boring if everyone in the sports world were as clean cut as those two?

Some of the most famous, rebellious and troubled individuals in sports have come and gone. The 80's and 90's featured the likes of Mike Tyson, Dennis Rodman and Pete Rose. But believe it or not, the current state of affairs, in regards to athletes in legal trouble, is far worse. Some of the athletes that make this list are pompous individuals who simply march to the beat of their own drum, and truly believe that the sun rises and sets solely for them. The others at the top of the list are in far bigger trouble as they have dug themselves a real hole with their despicable actions and personify the word "jerk."

Here are the top 15 jerks in sports!

15  15. Jon Jones

He's just such a hypocrite and just so...fake. He is trying to cling so desperately to this "good guy" image that he attempted to build for himself, but he doesn't realize that nobody is buying it anymore.

He claims to be humble, yet he's openly compared himself to Muhammad Ali. When the UFC itself sponsored him, he was quoted as saying: "I'll never make them look bad. You never have to worry about me DWI (driving while under the influence) or doing something crazy." Within the year, he received a DWI and scrapped his Bentley in the process.

He also claims to be a role model, and tries not to "cuss" yet when he thought he was off the air in his interview with opponent Daniel Cormier, he uttered: "Hey p****, are you still there?" To which Cormier replied: "I actually admire that you can actually be this fake, and like, when the TV comes on, how you can just change. It's like you're a chameleon, it's awesome!"

14 14. Chad Johnson

All our American fans think "Ochocinco" is retired, but he is not! He is currently playing for the CFL's slumping Montreal Alouettes (and is contributing absolutely nothing). This is a man that has said and done a lot of crazy things over the course of his career. He even said that he could take Michael Phelps in a swimming race, easily. Not only that, but plenty of his friends could too.

In 2012, he was arrested on a charge of domestic battery, allegedly head butting his wife. In 2013, Johnson got slapped with a warrant for violating the terms of his probation (this is where it gets funny). He was sentenced to 30 days in prison for violating the probation, but a plea deal was reached which avoided any jail time. But the judge (Kathleen McHugh) rejected it after Johnson stood up in court and playfully slapped his (male) attorney on the butt. C'mon, ease up there judge. Nothing wrong with a little male bonding.

13 13. Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez took performance enhancing drugs and lied about it, profusely. So what? So did half the league. What's the point of constantly harping on A-Rod?

That may be true, he didn't technically cheat with steroids more than anyone else. But with him, it goes beyond his use of banned substances. Alex Rodriguez is a jerk, which is why people are so vehement on throwing him under the bus.

In 2000, he signed the most expensive contract in the history of sports, doubling the previous record deal. It simply wasn't enough for A-Rod as he opted out before its conclusion and signed an even bigger one with the Yankees. When he's not cheating with steroids, he's trying to cheat on the field with his bush league tactics.

12 12. Tiger Woods

Up until 2009, Tiger Woods was considered a good guy. He was at the top of his game and seemed to have it all, including sponsors coming out the wazoo. Once he got caught engaging in "transgressions," as he so eloquently put it, his life went in a downward spiral. He seemingly transformed from this great role model into a monster overnight.

There was no overnight metamorphosis, Tiger Woods was always a tool. To hate on him solely because of the adultery stories is a tad hypocritical because so many athletes have done the same thing and are still considered role models. His rude, selfish, standoffish persona is more of a reason to bash him. Rocco Mediate recently told a Tiger Woods story on the Golf Channel. After his playoff loss to Woods in 2008, he requested that Woods sign and personalize a photo of them during the playoff (as a souvenir). He also asked for him to sign the pin sheet from their 5th round match. Good old Tiger responded by scribbling his name on the photo, without an inscription and didn't bother touching the pin sheet. He simply didn't care. That's Tiger in a nutshell.

11 11. Milan Lucic

There's no disputing that Lucic is a premiere power forward in the league and that all 30 teams would want him. The issue with Lucic is that he is a hypocritical bully, which was on full display in the 2013-2014 season and playoffs.

He spent an entire game targeting Canadiens' defenseman Alexei Emelin. He dropped him several times with more than a few dirty plays. The next time the teams met, Emelin delivered a clean hip check on Lucic, which he found unacceptable. He responded by spearing Emelin in the privates when the referee wasn't looking. He's such a "class act" that when the two teams where shaking hands at the end of their 7 game series, he jerked Emelin back and informed him that he was going to f***ing kill him next season.

Among other lowlights, he ran over Sabres' goalie Ryan Miller for no apparent reason, leaving him with a concussion. He then taunted the Sabres during an interview for not responding. He also had a spat in public with his girlfriend in 2011 and when police intervened, he uttered the dreaded: "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?"

10 10. Hope Solo

The American goalkeeper is well known for her controversial comments. In 2012 she ripped former player Brandi Chastain for comments she made in a broadcast during the Olympics: "layoff commentating about defending and goalkeeping until you get more educated, the game has changed from a decade ago." She's also openly criticized teamates and coaches. But it's not just her tendency to pop off that lands her on this list. She has a laundry list of off field incidents.

Most recently she was arrested for allegedly assaulting her sister and teenage nephew at her home. Police described her as "intoxicated and upset." The "upset" part doesn't surprise anyone, as she's always vexed about something.

9 9. Ben Roethlisberger

Roethlisberger seems like a dull, boring guy without any eccentric characteristics. He seemingly goes on about his business and then out of nowhere, another scandal arises with his name involved.

In 2009, a civil lawsuit was filed in Washoe County, Nevada District Court accusing Roethlisberger of sexually assaulting an employee in his hotel room. She claims he called her up to the room to have a look at the T.V that was supposedly broken, and then proceeded to corner her and force himself upon her. No criminal charges were filed due to lack of evidence.

In 2010, Roethlisberger got accused of sexually assaulting a woman inside the restroom of a Capital City night club (c'mon Ben, get it together). She was treated at the hospital and the doctors reported "lacerations, bruising and slight bleeding in the genital area." The accuser dropped the charges because of media attention. The league then suspended him for 4 games due to violating the NFL's personal conduct policy... where there's smoke, there's usually fire.

8 8. Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez seems like a normal guy off the field and doesn't have any crazy conduct stories to report like Mario Balotelli. On the field however, he is a complete sociopath!

As #2 said in regards to "Mini Me" during Austin Powers the Spy Who Shagged me: "he's a biter." Yes, Suarez was deemed a biter at the 2014 World Cup. But this was not an isolated incident as he is a noted biter, kicker and hair puller. He is a player with a laundry list of on field incidents and simply giving him a "time out" probably won't accomplish much. He clearly has some deep rooted issues that come out on the field.

7 7. Lance Armstrong

But isn't he retired? Ah, no he is not! He may be retired from the Tour de France, but he is not retired from competitive cycling. This writer wins on a technicality.

This first section is going to sound like a defense for the disgraced Armstrong. He is a cheater, plain and simple. But during his spot on Oprah where he came clean, he also maintained that in his generation, it wouldn't have been possible to compete on the tour without the use of performance enhancing drugs, meaning everyone was using them. This is 100% true, as if you look at the results on the Tour now that the cyclists are "clean," the winner of this year's Tour (Vincenzo Nibali) wouldn't have placed in the top 30 in 2003. Basically everyone is ripping on Armstrong for something everyone else was doing at the time.

It was his behavior afterwards that makes him so loathed by the public. He went around threatening, defaming and suing anyone that would even imply that he was cheating. He fully knew what he was doing the whole time, and still had no problems slapping suits on people in order to keep his dirty little secret safe.

6 6. Floyd Mayweather

The pound for pound best boxer in the world has displayed some erratic behavior over the past decade. "Money" is a guy that will walk into a strip club with 200 grand and make it rain...because he feels like it. He will also start screaming at 80 year old (and possibly senile) interviewers because he didn't like the question that was asked.

But Floyd's main demise has been his issues with the law. In 2011, a judge sentenced him to 90 days in jail for battery of his ex girlfriend. But this wasn't an isolated incident as he has an extensive list of incidents involving abuse of women. He's had more escapes than Houdini and it's incredible he wasn't sent to jail sooner.

5 5. Tony Stewart

Numerous road rage incidents, punching a photographer, and his jerky demeanor with the media have always shined a negative light on Tony Stewart, but never to an extent that would put him on this list until his most recent incident.

On August 9th, Kevin Ward Jr. was tragically killed when he was struck by Stewart's car. Ward was mad at Stewart for bumping his car into the wall, so he angrily got out of the vehicle and ran to confront Stewart who was approaching on the next lap. A few cars managed to avoid Ward, one even swerving, but Stewart couldn't (and some believe he didn't try to) avoid him and ran him over. Upon watching the video, it appeared that Stewart was trying to scare Ward as he seemingly accelerated and jerked the front wheel of the car in Ward's direction. Unfortunately he was too close, and Ward got sucked under the car.

4 4. Joey Barton

The bad boy of British football? Or the scum of the earth? You be the judge. Lets recount some of Barton's lowlights to set the stage.

In 2008, he spent 6 months in jail after punching a man over 20 times and then assaulting a teenager in a McDonald's parking lot. He also got angry in a cab, and ripped out the driver's car radio for reportedly refusing to pull into McDonald's drive-thru. One thing is clear, something about McDo seems to make Barton very volatile.

In a non-burger related assault, he beat up his teammate Ousmane Dabo so badly, that he put him out for the entire season. He also sparked a 10 man brawl during a "friendly" against Doncaster. Suarez' track record of debauchery seems feeble in comparison, doesn't it?

3  3. War Machine (Jon Koppenhaver)

He legally changed his name to War Machine, so that speaks volumes. But on a serious note, this MMA veteran is a sick and disturbed individual and needs to be locked up for good.

In August 2010, he was sentenced to a year in prison for a felony assault stemming from a fight at a Point Loma bar earlier that year, as well as an additional fight that took place at  Pacific Beach bar. Once he got out of jail, he was immediately sent back for an additional year for "preceding events." He appeared to be getting his life in order as he got back into MMA, and started dating Christy Mack. Sadly, on August 8th, Christy Mack and an associate were assaulted by War Machine at her Las Vegas home. Mack suffered 18 broken bones, missing teeth, a fractured rib and ruptured liver.

He was in hiding for a few days but was finally caught on the 15th at a hotel in Simi Valley by U.S Marshalls and Simi Valley police. The mind numbing part is that they didn't actually find him. The only reason the police ended up there is because War Machine had assaulted the woman he was with and a hotel guest called 911. Good riddance.

2 2. Oscar Pistorius

Pistorius was one of the biggest inspirations of our time, and the epitome of the term "no excuses." He was a sponsorship magnet as he was a runner with artificial legs who was somehow setting world records. Who wouldn't want to put their name next to this guy? He locked up $2 million dollar deals with Oakley, Nike, BT and Thierry Mugler.

The rug got pulled out from everyone as he has been accused of murdering his girlfriend. He has not been officially convicted yet but he has already admitted to shooting his girlfriend of 3 months (Reeva Steenkamp) and the guilty verdict appears imminent. Again, the verdict hasn't been given yet and we'll see what the judge decides on September 11th.

Certain people on the upper portion of this list had a track record of incidents and nobody is really surprised when they mess up, yet again. But this one was devastating and really threw everyone for a loop.

1 1. Aaron Hernandez

Well this selection was easy, as multiple murders and shooting your supposed friend will put your first on the jerk list every time. The 24 year old tight end will not be leaving the slammer any time soon due to an almost unbelievable string of heinous actions.

On June 27th, 2013, police informed media outlets that Hernandez was being investigated for his involvement (involvement is a nice way of saying: "he did it") in a double murder that took place on July 16th, 2012, in Boston. Two men in a car were killed by gunshots. This past May, Hernandez was formally indicted on these charges.

The trigger happy Hernandez has also been charged with first degree murder for the murder of Odin Lloyd, along with 5 gun-related charges. He's currently being held without bail at the Bristol County jail.

We're not done there, this is just getting plain ridiculous. On June 13th, 2013, his "friend" Alexander S. Bradley filed a lawsuit against Hernandez, claiming that he shot him while the two were riding in a car together after an altercation at a strip club.

Hernandez has not formally retired, but he will surely be looking at the inside of a jail cell for the rest of his life.
