Alexandra “Aly” Raisman first rose to prominence in 2012 when she helped the US gymnastics team, known as the “Fierce Five,” take home the gold medal. The entire world took notice of her incredible gymnastics skills—especially in the floor exercise, for which she won the gold medal—but they also took notice of her beauty. With her radiant smile and impressive physique, Aly stole the show from teammates Gabby Douglas and McKayla Maroney.
This past summer, she cemented her status as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time by leading her team, now known as the “Final Five,” to their second consecutive gold, winning a silver medal in floor in the process.
Even more than her athletic abilities and good looks, Americans fell in love with Aly’s adorable personality. Simone Biles might have been the standout at the 2016 Rio Games, but Raisman was the true heart and soul of the team. At just 22 years old, she was nicknamed “Grandma” by her younger teammates and looked up to as a role model. And she did not disappoint, finishing her Olympic career on an emotional high note, winning medals in three individual events.
In honor of her successful career, here are the top 15 hottest pictures of Aly Raisman you’ve gotta see.
15. FITNESS MODEL
We can’t think of anyone better to be a model for Reebok’s fitness wear than Aly. I mean, seriously, just look at that body. Not only does she have six-pack abs, but she also looks like she could crack a walnut between her thighs.
Ever wondered what it takes to get an Olympic physique? For Aly, it took rigorous training six days a week and a diet that consists of a cup of hot water and lemon with a bowl of cereal and skim milk in the morning, and loads and loads of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. For lunch, grilled chicken with rice and vegetables, lots of fruit and no white bread. For dinner, which she usually doesn’t have until 8pm when in training, more grilled chicken and vegetables, or sometimes salmon.
14. SILVER COAT FOR THE SILVER MEDALIST
Aly opted to wear a coat (and nothing else) to the 2016 CMT Artists of the Year event. Tagging along was her US teammate Madison Kocian. The two presented singer Carrie Underwood with an award, but the true star of the night was clearly Aly. Any outfit that shows off her incredibly fit body is a good one, and this risqué coat/dress did just that, emphasizing her toned, tanned legs.
Raisman’s outfit that night gave her the look of a girlfriend who’d been given a jacket by her boyfriend because she was cold, and we’re guessing there are more than a few men out there who wouldn’t hesitate to give up there jacket for her.
13. NATURAL BEAUTY
Aly added the hashtag “IDidNOTWakeUpLikeThis” to this picture, suggesting that it took a lot of hair and makeup to get her to look that good, but we feel like she’s being a bit modest, as we’ve yet to see a picture of her where she doesn’t look absolutely stunning. That said, she definitely upped her game with this outfit, which she recently wore to the Golden Globes.
Joining her on the red carpet that night was teammates Simone Biles and Madison Kocian, and current boyfriend Colton Underwood (sorry, guys, she’s taken).
Raisman confirmed her relationship with Underwood in December, after he asked her out via video. Colton is a tight end in the NFL who last played for the Oakland Raiders but is currently a free agent.
One of Raisman’s biggest sponsors is Reebok. Here she is modeling one of their sports bras in a behind the scenes pic from a photo shoot she did for Reebok Women.
Aly was front and center in Reebok’s “#PerfectNever” campaign, which, according to Shape, “calls to women to reject the expectations and pressures of perfection—because, first of all, true perfection doesn’t exist and, second, perfect never gets better.”
Raisman herself has felt the pressures of trying to be perfect, especially since she competes in a sport that judges every little detail. But the judgment isn’t limited just to her sport. Believe it or not, she’s received criticism online for her muscular build. Proving that she’s beautiful inside and out, she responded to the haters by saying: “My muscular arms that were considered weird and gross when I was younger have made me one of the best gymnasts on the planet. Don’t ever let anyone tell you how you should or shouldn’t look. There is no such thing as a perfect body type.”
11. THOSE ABS
Aly’s actually pointing to the bag in this picture, but she might as well be pointing to her abs. 22 years of competitive gymnastics will do that to you.
The Olympic gold medalist described her intense training with ESPN in 2016, claiming to have trained for up to seven hours a day when preparing for the Olympics. For her, gymnastics is just a job; it’s a way of life, telling ESPN, “I’m always eating healthy, always going to bed early. Everything I put into my body is for the purpose of gymnastics.”
10. LITTLE RED DRESS
You know you’re jacked when your abs are practically popping through your clothes. Raisman has the kind of figure that looks good in anything: a leotard, a dress, shorts, or nothing at all (as we saw in her breathtaking ESPN Body Issue shoot).
Due to her newfound celebrity status following the 2016 Olympics (she was already famous after 2012, but the Rio Games turned her into a superstar), Aly has had the chance to walk down various red carpets, and she’s looked amazing on each of them, often outshining celebrities and models with her natural beauty and fashion sense.
9. NOT YOUR AVERAGE GYMNAST
Most gymnasts are growth-stunted, underdeveloped, and with very little meat on their bones. Not Aly. She’s a full-figured woman, with curves and all.
During her interview for ESPN Magazine’s Body Issue, she acknowledged that she’s not the average “really thin” gymnast; instead, she’s muscular and strong, which allows her to pull off moves that other, lighter gymnasts might not be able to perform.
Raisman’s specialty is the floor routine. In 2012, she took home the gold for the event and followed it up with silver in 2016, narrowly losing out to teammate Simone Biles. Both Aly and Simone scored over 15 on the exercise, the only two gymnasts to do so that year.
8. LEAN BACK
Aly should be required to have her abs on full display at all times—seriously, it should be a crime to cover those things up.
If you want abs like Aly’s, it’ll take more than just a few crunches. She told US back in August that to achieve a body like hers takes a long-term commitment: “I do at least an hour of conditioning a day… It’s not overnight. We’ve trained for years and years and years and years.” She also devotes half an hour a day, everyday, to her core.
Some view muscles on a woman as being “unladylike” or “too masculine,” but Aly is the best example of why strong is sexy. You can keep your unrealistically thin runway models and underfed celebs; strong women like Aly is what we want.
7. FIERCE IN COMPETITION
Let’s not forget what made Raisman famous in the first place. And no, I’m not talking about her looks.
Aly took up gymnastics at the age of 2 after watching the “Magnificent Seven,” the 1996 US gymnastics team, at the Atlanta Games. In lieu of a scholarship to the University of Florida, after high school, which she completed online in order to be able to prepare for the Olympics, she decided to turn pro. She told the Boston Globe in 2012 that it was a “hard decision,” but ultimately it would be the best one she’d ever make, as she’d go on to win six Olympic medals, including three gold.
6. BEAUTY IN RED
Aly looked incredible in this red outfit (perhaps in honor of the red, white, and blue?), which she wore for her appearance on SportsCenter. Following her Olympic success, she appeared on just about every show in America, including Ellen, Live with Kelly, Good Morning America, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (the latter was with her Final Five teammates).
She’s handled all the attention brilliantly, too, never letting the fame go to her head or forgetting where she came from. She often credits her parents, who became internet sensations after cameras captured the two watching nervously as Aly performed in Rio, for helping her achieve her dreams. She also says they taught her that it’s “more important to be a good person than to be on top of the podium.”
5. HALF DRESS/HALF LEOTARD
One of Aly’s more daring red carpet outfits, she wore this dress, inspired by the gymnast leotards she dawned for over two decades, to the CMA Awards in November.
Following the 2016 Games, Aly announced that she would be taking a well-deserved year off from training, but she intends to compete at the 2020 Games in Tokyo. If her teammates are already calling her grandma at the age of 22, I guess they’ll be calling her great-grandma when she’s 26.
And who knows, maybe she’ll even come back for the 2024 Games. At 30 years old, she would still be more than ten years younger than the oldest female gymnast ever to compete at the Olympics, Oksana Chusovitina. We’d certainly be happy to see her competing for as long as possible.
4. TALK ABOUT FLEXIBLE
What’s the first thing people say when you mention dating a gymnast? Flexibility. Aly is no exception. Despite not having your typical ultra-petite gymnast build, she’s able to contort her body into positions that would send the average person to the emergency room.
In order to prepare for the physically grueling events of competitive gymnastics, Raisman has to workout every muscle in her body: “I work on my ankles, calves, knees, quads, and butt. We rarely use weights because gymnastics is all about lifting your own body weight. If I do use any weights, it’s just for arm circles with three- or five-pound weights or squats with a medicine ball.”
3. ESPN BODY ISSUE
They say a picture speaks a thousand words, but this one only brings one to mind: hot.
Raisman stripped down for ESPN Magazine’s annual Body Issue in 2015. Other female athletes who posed in the buff for the issue include swimmer Natalie Coughlin, soccer player Ali Krieger, skateboarder Leticia Bufoni, and field hockey player Paige Selenski, but we only had eyes for Raisman, who stole the magazine with her sexy, but tasteful, photos, which highlighted her incredibly fit body.
Raisman followed in the footsteps of fellow US gymnast hottie Alicia Sacramone, who had her own nude photo shoot with the magazine back in 2011. The two trained together when they were younger, and Aly said Alicia was like an “older sister” to her.
2. SPORTS ILLUSTRATED SWIMSUIT EDITION
WOWWW what an honor to be featured in @si_swimsuit 2017. THANK YOU to @mj_day & the SI team for including me in this issue. I'm very proud of my body and how hard I have worked to look like this. I of course like everyone else have my days where I feel insecure and not at my best. BUT I think it is that much more important we love our bodies and support each other. It is 2017 and there is NO perfect or ideal body type. SI SWIM celebrates women for being unique and beautiful in our own way which is why I am so happy to be a part of it. THANK YOU @jamesmacari ?
Aly gave everyone something to look forward to in 2017 when she shared this sneak peak from the upcoming Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. The magazine comes out in a few months, and it contains several more steamy shots of the Olympian, as well as some of all-around gold medalist Simone Biles.
Of course, this isn’t Aly’s first time posing for a major magazine wearing next to nothing. Her nude photo shoot, and the accompanying behind the scenes video, for ESPN nearly broke the Internet in 2015.
Raisman said of her recent SI photo shoot: “I loved [it]. It was such an empowering feeling to be so confident and happy with the way I looked. I work so hard for the body that I have and believe that all women should embrace how beautiful they are, no matter their body type.”
1. BIKINI BUDS
Unlike her former US teammate McKayla Maroney, Raisman isn’t known for showing off much skin (except of course for that time she stripped down to her birthday suit for ESPN, of course, but that was more tasteful than flaunting). She’s not one to take gratuitous bikini selfies or to post pictures of her abs pretending it’s for motivational purposes (no one’s buying that, ladies).
That’s why it was such a surprise, and a pleasant one at that, when she posted a picture of herself on the beach with Final Five teammates Simone Biles and Madison Kocian.
We count no fewer than 18 abs among the three, at least six of which belong to Aly.
